Roger's increased my phone bill by $5 on their own?

Employee plan as I am employeed with one of the partner companies. My plan was $35+ tax which included US/Canada calling and 100 GB data/month. Last month, Rogers increased my plan rate by $5 on their own specifying "Wireless Plan Rate Adjustment". I tried raising a complaint but to no use. I barely use 10GB/month - is there a lower plan that I can shift to? I am now paying $40+ tax = $45

Received a rejection for a role I did not apply for after a recent HIRE?

Yet to join but I recently received my offer and account (employee workday).

One day after getting the workday account, I got a reject email (proceeded with other candidates) for a role similar to the one I am hired for but the title differs a bit. The email has a HR name.

I dont recall applying for such a role. I logged into my workday account (which I applied from) and could not find an application with that role/title. Maybe I applied via Linked? I dont remember doing so.

What could this be? I still have access to the employee account. Fingers crossed.

Wealth Management tips/advisors for risk averse folks?

[30m] Portfolio ~ 750k CAD. I am very risk averse as my capital has been accumulated by once in a life type event, and I have worked real hard for it. My max projected savings for this and the next few years is only 30-40k CAD/year. Hence, I want to preserve and grow this portfolio. My biggest red flag is I don't take enough risk in the market and I am scared of USD depreciation (which I feel is incoming in the next year or so). I know that I should invest in assets that grow over time and beat inflation but deciding between those and diversifying is something I am still learning. I am open to wealth management firms but I don't want a young lad earning 60k suggesting me to put my eggs in a fund that pays him a markup. I want real wealth management advice. Where can I find such advisors? If not, how do you invest in assets and grow/preserve your portfolio.

I am willing to invest/risk up to 250k CAD (in a business/market) but would want to preserve the remaining 500k CAD (in assets like land/gold?). My current portfolio looks like this. Note that I am an Immigrant with a permanent residence working my way to citizenship (eta 3 years).

HISA - 263K USD @ 3.15%

SGOV - 125k USD @ 4%

Stocks - 92k USD (40k AMZN, 40k VOO, 10k GOOG, 0.3k GLDM, 0.7K ORCL)

Non Registered - 70k CAD @ 2%

FHSA - 16k (XEQT, some Silver, HHIS)

TFSA - 14k (XEQT, HHIS)

I am in Toronto so I cant afford any land unless I take a mortgage/go to suburbs (but then I will need to travel 5x/week). Can you guys suggest ways to invest and diversify here? Which assets to invest in?

How to change apartments with a 2 month notice?

I had a 1 year lease which converted to a month on month lease. The lease had a 2 month notice period clause. I think that 2 months notice still applies when it's month on month now?

My building is rent controlled so the rent was only increased 2.1% and now it's $2000 + utilities ($100-$120). However, I was laid off and hoping to join in a new role where my salary is $50k/year less than my old salary. With the 25% rule it should be ideally $1600-$1800.

My work location is union station and the condos there still seem to be out of this range unless I get a room mate. I also have real sensitive skin so a in-unit non-shared washer dryer is ideal (Yonge and Eglinton units lack this).

  1. How do I make this move? Do I give a notice without securing an apartment? Most apartments/cons are coming up on the market only like 20 days before.
  2. Where can I find a condo in this range with an in unit washer dryer - hopefully on a ttc station or in downtown?

Does getting employee id mail after a series of background questions mean background cleared?

How does one know if the background search/cleared was approved? I got the username/password/employee id email - does that mean it was cleared or would I get any mail from RBC/HR specifying that the background search was cleared? What's next - do I just show up on the start date? There would be no communication from HR? I only got the mail to create a staff account - did not get any tax form mail.

Would it be wrong to apply for credit card if I am on EI?

I recently crossed the 100,000 mark for my portfolio at Wealthsimple and became a premium member. However, I have been unemployed since March.

The credit card application is making me declare my employment status - could applying and lying here affect with my EI benefits?

Also, how do they decide which card they will give me?

I made about 158,000 this year (stock vest + severance, hence, this large a number). Tag says Infinite card but I would like the Infinite Privilege one.

Do employers terminate conditional offers due to without cause termination?

Last employment ROE specifies "Termination without cause" with code M. I have been transparent in the interviews but background search is insistent (by using terms like "try to get" repetitively) on wanting my ROE.

TD Aeroplan card expiring and stuck with 21.8k points

I don't know why but I took the TD Aeroplan Visa Platinum card as part of the TD newcomer offer (did not do background research and spontaneously took this one - I regretted the decision the first day). Anyways, it's renewal date is here and they would start charging me $89 for this useless card. I am thinking of downgrading it to the TD Cash back card so that my credit history is not affect - this being my first card. I have 21.8k points in my Aeroplan account which is linked to this card.

I don't think my points would get waste if I remove/downgrade this card - but still checking here if something could mess up? Should I first claim/redeem the points before downgrading the card?

I haven't found the Aeropoints to be useful - I usually fly YYZ (home) to DEL (New Delhi - 1 per year), NRT/HND (Japan - 1 per 2 years), or YUL/YQB (Montreal/Quebec city - 1 per year). I also have $250 in via rail as they mess up my journey every time and refund me money. For DEL, these points are meaningless and very less to be used; same for Japan; for YUL - I see Air Canada giving me 1.5c per point ($175 flight is 8k points + $55).

Should I hold to these points for flight or just redeem them for a giftcard 21k points =$150 visa/mastercard/amazon/bestbuy etc?

No sign on bonus for T&O? Pay band for GG07 and GG08?

* Can someone share the pay bands for GG07 and GG08 in T&O?

* How is T&O compared to other verticals?

* HR told me there is no sign on bonus they can offer but levels.fyi shows people were offered some? Am I being fooled?

* How is MTI stocks determined?

* I was only given a base + target bonus number. How much of the target bonus is achievable?

* It seems there is no difference between GG07 and GG08 while there is a vast difference between GG07 and GG06?

* Can we move from GG07 IC to managerial position? Or vice versa?

Things to do in Brampton using public transportation as a visitor from Toronto ?

I am thinking of visiting Brampton from Toronto by taking the GO Weekend $10 pass.

Would love to receive some recommendations on things to do, popular places to visit, and restaurants to get good Indian food? Any Temples/Gurdwara's I can visit and get my first experience of langar?

I don't drive so please only recommend me places which are accessible using public transportation.

I have heard a lot of good and bad things about this town. The good being the food, affordable houses, clean city. I bad being lack of diversity, high insurance rates, road rage, and crime. I would love to see both side of the town as I want to judge if I would want to buy a house here (given the affordable housing compared to Toronto). Can anyone help me with recommendations of such areas? One of my Indian friend recommended me "sabji mandi" - not sure if he was being sarcastic or not.
