Aquaphor for night moisturizer?

My grandmother had amazing skin. She said she faithfully applied aquaphor every night. Does anyone still do this? Is there an equivalent that would work the same way, but maybe less petroleumy?

Unhealthy living situation

My very independent 80 yr old mom had a massive hemorrhagic stroke back in October. We thought she was a goner, but with life saving measures, she lived. She had bad insurance, but we fought to get her into a very reputable rehab and she was bounced for lack of progress- “self limiting”. Amazingly, we got her into another- and same thing. She is able to walk with a walker, but still has balance issues. We got her into assisted living where everything was taken care of. Despite medical advice & her family begging her, she went back to her home where she is living alone.

My mom has always been hoarder, and she’s never taken care of daily chores- cleaning, dishes, removing trash, etc. my family had cleaned her home when she was in hospital because we thought we were going to be selling it. We recently went over and it again reeks of garbage and there is trash everywhere. I’m certain the mice are back as well.

She lied to me saying that she was going to hire someone to help her with those things.
She also told me she is going to be driving herself to a hair appointment soon. She can’t walk without assistance. She sees none of this as a problem.

We used to be very close, but I have nothing to say anymore and I can’t support her “toughing it out” in what’s a hazardous situation. I’ve been avoiding texting or calling and I feel so guilty about it, but when I do reach out I’m really anxious and dwell on the situation.

I live over an hour away with young kids, so I can’t be over there cleaning or doing laundry for her- and not sure I would be if I was closer. She has the means to thrive in an assisted living community, but chooses to barely survive by herself.

What do I do?!

TLDR- My mom is choosing to live in hazardous conditions and it’s f\*cking with my mental health.

Po and his vitiligo journey

I wanted to share some pics of Po and his beautiful coloring. He started out with traditional seal point coloring which started changing when he was about 4 months. It started with his pads and nose, but eventually got his lips and eyes. He’s now a year old and the progression has definitely slowed. He’s has other sensitivities as well, seems to have some protein allergies, and is on gut healthy diet. He’s a very sweet cat and demands to be picked up and held for at least 2 minutes every morning. His pics go from most recent to when he was a baby.

Can New Englanders make it in Springfield?

We (family of 4- 2 kids in middle school) are from the Boston area. My kids LOVE soccer and are talented players. We are season ticket holders for NE Revolution. We go to concerts often to different venues. I am an English Language development teacher who teaches kids learning English. We love the diversity of our area. Great schools also.

My husband will likely get a job offer for a company based out of Springfield. In your opinion, would we like the Springfield area???

Does childhood depression get better?

My recently turned 12 year old son was diagnosed with anxiety and depression when he was 9. He is currently being medicated and has been to therapy (currently trying to find a new one), although it doesn’t seem to help.

I was a happy kid, my other son is a happy kid, my husband, generally happy as well. It’s hard for me to understand how he feels. Let me preface this by saying I love my son. He is funny, extremely smart, inquisitive, and kind; but he is also negative, angry, miserable, and sad. He doesn’t like his life despite being very talented, quick to learn new things, well liked by peers, and loved immensely by his family.

From those of you with kids that suffer from anxiety and depression, does it get better? How do deal with it? What strategies have worked with your kids?
