Me: *riding in a carriage* Game: Here have telepathic messages from an ancient dragon emperor you've never heard of before.

This is one of the most sudden things the AI has thrown at me. I've been playing the "Resurrected with an OP Skill" story. We went on a second quest to blow up a fort that turns out to have been used by orcs. After destroying that, on the ride back to town, I start hearing from a "Diemos". I question who that is, and telepathically I'm now communicating with a dragon emperor that has been dormant for thousands of years. Like, what? Where the heck did this come from?

I almost want to write a story, but I have some questions and concerns

Forewarning: This may get a little bit on the rambling side or go all over the place.

Yeah, so I've only played on here for a few days. I ended up tapping on the "resurrected with an OP skill" story, chose some meteor summoning spell, and have been enjoying the experience. From what I can tell, I'm following the intended story stuff, but also being given main character privilege to make choices. And while I'm poking at the limitations to see what I can and can't do, I'm not trying to override the limits the AI sets for me.

But I am very curious. How much does the AI force you to stay onto the story? The story I'm in has you meet up with an adventurer group who takes you to a big city. What if I just say I don't wish to join the group? What if I decide to use that destructive meteor spell to obliterate the city? I suppose maybe the limitations are decided by the author, but I'm not as familiar with the process.

That sort of leads to the next issue. I'm not sure how much the general player will be like me and want to follow the general suggested route. As a long time video gamer, I'm likely to take that path with the arrows down it because I know it advances the story. And while I might deviate from the path somewhat to explore, I'm still going there eventually. I worry that even if I put a lot of thought into a story, perhaps it won't have enough hook and players would just ignore and not pursue the potential plot. And at that point, why bother?

The other piece of me not being sure it's even worth it is the idea that anything good I'd come up with already exists. I know that's not a good reason to cull one's creativity, but I also know the pain of trying to be a content creator on Twitch where there's a saturated market. You can pour your heart and soul into something for like 3 views. I don't know that I really want to do that.

And if what I come up with doesn't already exist, maybe it doesn't work so well with the format. I started to think of having a story that's more around some sort of game the user can play (imagine some sort of sort of Yu-Gi-Oh season type plot), but I also realized that with the limited number of "turns" due to the credits system, that may not work out so well. Also, why not just play a game app instead of a story app at that point?

Ultimately, I don't know that I'll actually go forward and try to craft a story. Plus, I might need more experience just as a player first. I've only been on this app less than a week, and only invested into one story. So I don't know.

So I've seen this subreddit talk a lot about how to do certain things. But like, I'm curious how others act while playing.

I'm naturally the sort of guy who likes being silly and cracking a few jokes here and there. The party members I've met in a story have certainly picked up on that sort of thing.

Now I haven't done this for very long, but I kinda want things to go poorly. Like, I want to intentionally make some dumb decisions and see what happens.

I am mostly following some of the, I guess the intended plot line of the story rather than just trying to force things myself. But the long time gamer in me also likes poking around to see what breaks the game. I've already had the story deny me on certain aspects and say, "yeah, no, doesn't work like that." But I mean, that's still cool with me.

How would you proceed from here?

My Lucario experience helped this Mega Lucario player

It may only be an assist, but I love this moment here. I had to be careful on low HP, but when I saw the Mega Lucario unite happen, I reacted to it. I know Scizor can just run from Close Combat normally, so I lined up a Flip Turn to prevent Scizor's escape.

This helped lead to a win. Lucario and I picked up all four KO's (Scizor went to backcap) and the boss finish. But that only happens when you can get the levels necessary beforehand.

Me in Ultra vs me in Master

I'm a defender main, so I love good tanky builds that really help in a team fight. However, ultra rank currently is flooded with players who insta lock attackers or speedsters with almost no idea what they're doing. In fact, I dealt with so much with my team throwing that I had a seasonal win rate below 50% when finally getting to Master.

Now? Suddenly my defender games are going great. It really helps that draft is letting me counter pick what my opponents are doing. And I must have pissed of someone with Vaporeon enough for them to ban it in the following game!

Too bad the season is about to reset. Time to go right back to playing more of a game of chance than a game of skill.

Anyone else feel like Anti-AI activists are exactly like this?

(Hopefully this isn't breaking rule 6. This is being used for comparison purposes.)

I've always laughed at this video. Guy with a friendly tone goes over to do a interview and points out the "choose adoption" sign. He then asks how many children each of the ladies at the sign have adopted, and the answer for each of them is zero. It's just the message.

With Anti-AI activists telling us to support human work instead, I'd be curious to know how many of them actually do so themselves. How many pieces of unique human art have they purchased? How many Twitch streams or YouTube channels are they subscribed to? How much have they spent on actually supporting small creators? Or perhaps for them, it's just the message?

Every picture you or I have ever taken using our phones is "slop" compared to a real photograph

I've always hated the use of the word "slop" to describe AI output. It's meant to have a negative connotation, but honestly could be applied to many of the things we do or create. One of which would just be snapping a picture from a smartphone. It only takes seconds and a few taps of a screen to do it.

Meanwhile, take a look at this picture. It's a real photograph. It was taken by a skilled photographer with a Nikon D750. There was additional lighting involved, and someone else had to help toss the pokeball up to be a part of the shot. And of course, that's me in the fursuit. But there was a lot of effort put into capturing a quality photo here, rather than something an iPhone generated through its lenses.

Now, of course, I'm not here to disparage anyone's photo gallery. We all have our cherished memories stored in there. Mine has a lot of my young nieces in there, capturing family moments from birthdays and holidays. And certainly some pictures will have a bit of setup or work to the get a good shot. There's certainly nothing wrong with that.

The point I'm going for here is to hopefully get some people to think twice before just broadly disparaging the generated output of a program that may or may not have taken a lot of effort to use. Because, honestly, there's plenty of that in all of our pockets.

I appreciate the rank points system being generous. But it doesn't solve the real problem of not having a real match of Unite.

I don't play nearly as much as I used to. In fact, I stopped playing for a while, but returned when there were the quests for the legendary birds. So I guess I've been back for a while, but I don't play all that often.

However, when I do get into a ranked match, it feels like a lot of time is wasted on matches that aren't honest 5v5 games of Unite. Between the AFK's, the toxic players, the just plain bad ones, or even a brand new player. I have over 5,000 ranked games logged, and got paired with a Machamp that was on their 30th game and was clearly not somebody's alt account.

These things happen so often, that you could play for an hour and not get a serious, competitive match. And I don't mean a high level game, but one that's a bit more even and could go either way. Sometimes I just want a match where all ten players who queued up are actively playing and making reasonable choices. Even in my last two games, both of which were winning games, there was a Latias that I felt was playing poorly enough to report. Yes, I realize reports likely don't do anything worthwhile, but this person picked a supporter and then didn't make any effort to play with the team.

It feels like there's too much wasted time.

I did 6% damage, but 26% of the KO's!

Moonlight and Follow Me. It's my favorite Clefable build. I was able to jump opponents and finish them off effectively once they were provoked.

It really helps that I play that Ho-Oh build, so I understand what's happening. It gives me the space required to play a solid support.

An early review of the Langrisser V english patch, having completed six scenarios

I am really enjoying it. Although I know plenty of people have claimed the translation would be terrible because AI was used in some form, it still seems to be largely drawn from a translation script made in 2006. It's not word for word as I think some of it has been improved upon, but it still draws heavily from that script. One of the things I noticed is that one of the characters is originally referred to as "Lainforce", but then in one conversation is called "Lainford", which more accurately matches his name in Langrisser IV.

The story seems good to me. There's no sort of "lifeless" feeling or a lack of nuance to the text. Lambda can be a bit weird, but that feels intentional compared to the, you know, actual human characters. I feel like I'm following things quite well, but obviously the story is still just getting started given that the main characters haven't reached their first major destination yet.

The main thing I would like to note in terms of something fixable is the word wrap. Occasionally it will split a word. This doesn't happen too often, but still.

Outside of that, I mean, it seems good to me. I'd recommend other people try it, and not just assume it's going to be trash. Me? I'm hoping to get all the way through it, though it may take me some time given that my partner and I are just about to buy a house, fix what needs fixing, and move. Gonna get in the way of the gaming, ya know? Hah.

Started the English translation of Langrisser V. Here are my thoughts after two hours.

I know there's a lot of talk about how good or bad the translation might be, but I've also realized a lot of that is speculation from people who haven't played it. It took me some time to get everything set up, but I finally got things going and started streaming the game.

I like it. There's definitely something a bit odd about calling a character "Lainforce" then seeing him later referred to as "Lainford", which is the name I remember from Langrisser IV. But I think that's all I've really seen that's out of place. Yeah, there's plenty of game left to go, and I don't read or speak any Japanese, so I don't know how accurate it truly is. However, the text is sensical in English. It doesn't seem overly awkward or all over the place.

Anyway, I gotta head off to work for the day, so I'll leave you all with a brief clip-

We had our grand reopening lately. It wasn't good.

First off, it doesn't really represent anything. We still have remodel crews in the evening because it's not done. I suppose it's mostly done, but not over. So why the "celebration"?

The other point I'd like to make is that second shift got shafted. There were food trucks that came to be a part of the festivities, and associates were able to get tickets to use at the food trucks. But those were all gone by the time I got to work for my 2 pm shift. What did we get instead? Nothing. Not even pizza. Why do something like bring in food trucks but not have any of them around for what's essentially a dinner hour so second shift could get some?

My phone notification sound is, "You can lick my boots!"

I sometimes have to explain this to people. It's Oshare Bones' win quote from Puyo Pop Fever. I used to play it all the time on the Nintendo DS, especially given that I was experienced in Puyo thanks to Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine as a kid.

<customer pointing at phone accessories behind glass> "Give me that one." Which one? "That one."

Yeah like I can tell what you're pointing at from some different angle. How about any sort of helpful description on what item you want? Case or screen protector? Type or length of cord? Color? Brand? Price? Anything other than just pointing at something from three feet away and expecting me to calculate your angle of finger pointing or read your mind would be super helpful.

Never mind the people who call me over first and THEN want to take a few minutes to decide what they want. You don't need me to see through the glass. I've also got freight to put out and TV's to pick and fill and plenty of other tasks to do. Please figure out what you want first and then come get me.

At least they waited until the Groudon fight, right?

I don't know if this was tilt, revenge, or impatience. But as soon as this Greninja saw me, boom!

And while I will give them some credit for waiting until the Groudon spawn was starting to use it, now it's time to learn step two. Pick your targets. Trying to blow up the enemy defender like that is a fool's errand. I didn't even need to Unite them back.

I'll certainly take the win.

I started Unite when it first released. Slowbro is my most played Pokémon, so of course I had my trigger finger ready for another Pokémon from the original lineup!
