I got tired of Windows switching my audio to my monitor every time it woke up, so I built a small app to stop it!

If you have more than one audio device, you’ve probably hit this. You’ve got headphones, speakers, a mic, maybe a monitor with its own audio. You plug something in or unplug it, or a driver updates, and Windows quietly decides that’s your new default.

I got tired of fixing it by hand, so I built SoundLatch.

You rank your audio devices, and SoundLatch makes sure Windows always uses the highest-ranked one that’s connected. My setup looks like this:

  1. Headphones
  2. Desktop speakers
  3. Monitor audio

When I unplug my headphones, it switches to the speakers. When I plug them back in, it switches back. Microphones get their own separate list. If you just want one device to stay put, you can Lock it.

It’s a lightweight native app that sits in your tray, and it’s fixed a daily annoyance for me. A few dozen people have tested it so far and the feedback has been really positive.

Available on the Microsoft Store: https://soundlatch.formandelement.com/

PS: It's a few bucks, but if that’s a problem, DM me and I’ll sort you out with a copy!

Apsis - demo of my survival/horror game

Hi everyone,

I've been working on Apsis, a first-person survival/horror game that runs completely in the browser. The demo is playable now at https://apsis.formandelement.com/

Premise:

It's 1979. You wake up inside a crashed ship between the Russian/Chinese border. You're being hunted by mysterious beings.

I would appreciate any feedback you would have, especially around:

- performance (I recommend a dedicated GPU or apple silicon)

- atmosphere, where it scared you and where it didn't

- any bugs you hit

- thoughts on gameplay mechanics

- 🎮 controller support (adaptive triggers and haptic feedback if you're using a wired dualsense!)

Please keep in mind this is just a basic demo to try things out. It's pretty linear and it's missing a lot of mechanics. I do have a multiplayer survival build I'm testing out, I'll post more updates on that soon.

Thank you for trying it out :)

Packet Loss - An IT text adventure game

Hey everyone! I’m working on Packet Loss, a text-based adventure where you try to keep a dysfunctional company’s IT running without losing your job (or your sanity).

You’ll fix tickets, deal with questionable management decisions, get to know your coworkers, and occasionally trust the junior tech with something important. Results may vary.

It’s definitely a niche game, but I’d love some honest feedback, especially on what would make it more fun. Are the choices interesting? Does anything feel repetitive or frustrating? Is it actually funny?

You can play it here: https://packet-loss.vercel.app/

Even a few minutes of playing and a “this bit was annoying” would help. Thanks!

SoundLatch - Tired of Windows sending your audio to your monitor's HDMI output? I made a tool to fix that!

We’ve all been there: your bluetooth headphones die and instead of switching to your wired headphones, Windows decides your terrible, tinny HDMI monitor speakers are the perfect choice to blast your music or meeting at 100% volume.

Or you plug in a controller or webcam, and suddenly your microphone switches mid-game and nobody can hear you.

I got so annoyed dealing with this every day that I built a small, lightweight Windows app called SoundLatch.

SoundLatch lets your prioritize audio inputs and quickly switch between using a tray icon or hotkeys. You can also straight up just lock a single output/input and it will prevent Windows from switching as long as it's connected.

MS Store Page

You can grab a completely free copy using the code: GXXRY-QPK4T-42V2V-Q9TFF-FM2GZ (or use this MS Store Promo link)

I'm hoping to get some feedback and add some more useful features like assigning devices per app. If you end up using it, let me know what you think!

PSA: You can prepay your Rogers bill and use up your Rogers Mastercars redemption instantly

If you haven't read the recent news, the Rogers Mastercard will be dropping the 1.5x redemption bonus come November: https://www.reddit.com/r/PersonalFinanceCanada/comments/1vrtsoh/rogers\_bank\_removing\_15\_bonus\_in\_november/

Apparently if you prepay your bill, you can redeem the entire amount now at 1.5x. You don't even have to wait for it to fully post. This seems like a good way to take advantage before Robbers finishes up their latest enshitification project.

I built a native Windows Audio Device Manager

Hi,

Audio device switching in Windows really sucks. You can't deterministically set which devices get priority and many times it ends up making things like the HDMI output the default speaker.

I got tired of going through the control panel a few days times a day and decided to do something about it.

I've been working on an app called SoundLatch that helps make it way easier to juggle multiple headphones/speakers/microphones. You can order a subset of your audio devices in priority and ignore the ones you don't want Windows to use. You can even force lock a single device.

I published it earlier today on the MS app store but it's currently unlisted as I'm hoping to get some real world feedback/testing first.

If you're interested in a free copy, you can use the code 66FXD-HRCDV-PYJ9D-9F4QJ-HPWTZ or use a direct link (it has 25 uses but feel free to DM me for additional codes!)

I would appreciate it any feedback (or criticism!) you can give, especially if device switching in Windows annoys you as much as me.

Cutline - A simple video trimming and cropping tool for Windows

A few days ago I needed to quickly edit a video and couldn't find anything that was simple and didn't upload private videos to onedrive. I ended up building something that I think others could find useful as well.

Cutline is 100% local, easy to use for trimming/cropping/rotating and can handle a variety of formats.

Here's a Microsoft store code for 25 free redempions: VM4R3-CXJ46-VWQYR-RC7R6-HT44Z (or you can use this direct link)

Minisforum NAB6 Lite melted

Last week I noticed a burning smell in my server room. When I opened my wall box I saw that my Minisforum NAB6 was sparking and smoking.

Luckily I managed to unplug it and prevented a fire from starting.

I've seen a few posts and reviews mentioning recalls on a large batch of the NAB series due to them having capacitor issues. There's a recall but it seems like you have to pull teeth to actually get your unit replaced.

When I contacted support I was offered a replacement power adapter if I paid for shipping. Completely unacceptable and absurd response. I've never had a device catch fire like this, it's insane.

They're refusing to provide any sort of investigation or resolution. I can understand where they're coming from since I don't have an invoice (it was a birthday gift last year, I'm trying to get it now). If the question is warranty coverage, the NAB6 light hasn't even been out in my country long enough to be past the warranty period.

Is this a common thing with Minisforum or with Chinese Mini PCs in general? I have a few still sitting in my server box and now I'm worried.

A "watch together" web app

I was playing around with antigravity/claude last weekend and put together a 2026 rendition of a project I did almost 15 years ago. Basically it's an app that lets you watch videos with friends. Back in the day it was a great way to share and discover music, especially stuff you normally wouldn't listen to.

I'm not quite sure it would work in today's age but maybe there's something there. Either way it's pretty awesome that you can prototype something so quick by just chatting with an LLM.

NAB 6 almost caught on fire

Earlier today I noticed a burning smell in my server room and found the NAB 6 adapter sparking like crazy. It's been running fine for a while and without a particularly heavy load (just home assistant).

Is this a known issue? I'm also not sure if it's still in warranty so it might be difficult to get repaired.

The builder repaired a large part of the floor due to a different issue and when they replaced the boards there's now a significant dip where the hardwood meets the tile.

Is there any advice on what to do here or am I SOL? The dip is bad enough to be a tripping hazard.

I submitted my 2025 taxes a few days ago and was immediately hit with a surprise $30k+ tax bill.

It turns out I accidentally added a 2024 T4RSP for a $60k HBP withdrawal on my 2025 taxes. Easy mistake to make when it arrived late due to being sent so late and mail forwarding because of the move...

Anyway, I amended my return online and I'm looking at an estimated review date in August. Apart from this I should be getting a 40c refund.

Is there anything else I need to do? Will I be going to tax jail?
