Before starting, I don't intend to advocate for screen protector use.

I came across many posts on this subreddit that appear to come down to one conclusion that screen protector sucks. Main reason for this claim is that screen protector drastically ruins the screen quality(through reflection) which is what I completely agree with.

But, I think there are couple things people should know about the use of screen protector.

Based on my first hand experience of using three m2 or later modern macbook airs, I noticed that MacBook screens almost inevitably collect permanent marks from abrasion with keyboard and trackpad edges as illustrated in the picture. Note that I am a student who carries the laptop around a lot(although I do use a protective sleeve). When I first noticed the marks, I tried to clean using microfiber, damp, dry, with alcohol but I couldn't erase it. I double checked with many of my colleagues with the same laptop and all of theirs also turned out to have these permanent keyboard marks on the screen. If you think your MBA doesn't have any mark, try directing flashlight at the screen area that corresponds to trackpad and keyboard edge.

To be fair, these marks are usually not disturbing in regular room lighting. I tried using matte screen protector to hide those marks until I realized that using cheap screen protector and ruining the display quality by increasing reflection is not a good trade off(especially given that the screen is already scratched).

But I do wish people realize how fragile Macbook Screen can be. Especially if you are a new macbook owner and plan to resell the laptop in the future or simply want to keep the screen clean, (and does not do graphic work on your laptop) screen protector is probably the only alternative that can keep the screen actually protected.

+I saw many intimidating posts saying screen protectors can damage the actual anti refelctive coating when removing, but, that simply does not appear to be a case anymore for m2 or later MBAs. Also, most screen protectors in the market rn do not use traditional glue type adhesive to attach to the screen.

If you do plan to use screen protectors, I at least recommend using film type rather than glass ones. Glass protectors tend to be thicker than or close to screen to keyboard tolerance and affect hinge stiffness
