ARTIST OF THE WEEK #3 - Coye

Hey everyone,

For this weeks artist of the week I decided to choose Coye (stylized as coye on DSPs), formerly known as Koi.

From Genius:

"The L.A.-based artist began as a simple beatmaker through his high school years in 2016. In his spare time, he’d produce and upload his creations to music-sharing websites like Airbit and SoundCloud. Finding little success in doing so, however, he instead took it upon himself to manifest the songs he had envisioned.

Over his career, koi has proven himself to be a very capable independent artist. He’s even found himself a sizeable cult following for the unique sound he has developed since the beginning. He has experimented with a variety of sounds such as hip-hop, pop, R&B, rock, plugg, hyperpop with positive reception.

In an Instagram Q&A, the young artist was asked about why he had pursued music in the first place. After a moment of thought, he’d simply respond:

>

Since 2021, koi has garnered significant praise from underground communities around the world. He has grown a track record known for his accessible, yet strangely irreplaceable ear for hits. Popular hip-hop sites Lyrical Lemonade and ELEVATOR Magazine have accredited him as a rising star. His discography, from albums to singles, have obtained millions of plays through natural spread (i.e. “dont make me fall in love”“Ysl”, and “big”). Zero promotion, zero co-signs, and zero labels."

All of this still rings true today. I have been a fan of Koi since around 2021 or 2022 when I found his songs 10&2 and Toast to Me on YouTube. Since then I have dived into his discography and listened to his 13 albums all of which have been released independently. His music has been through a few evolutions, from sad boy esque rap to singing beautifully on pluggnb beats, to now making more R&B and melodic rap songs. If you like fun, bouncy music with great melodies, then this is the artist for you.

He had a name change I believe it was in 2025 from Koi to Coye, his real name. His newest album, interia, dropped on June 5th.

FUTURE ARTIST OF THE WEEK SUGGESTIONS

Hey everyone,

I am taking suggestions for future artist of the week posts. I plan to triage each one and for milestone weeks (like week 10, 25, 50 if we get there, etc) I will do a poll of 4-5 artists and then choose the most popular one to do a short bio and post on.

Additionally, I would like to do full artist showcases and interviews in the future. If you have any artist connections for that let me know.

Leave suggestions for week #10 on this post.

Also, let me know how the visibility for the week #2 post was. I am also considering leaving all artist of the week related posts unpinned for the first 24 hours for visibility then pinning them for the remaining time.

ARTIST OF THE WEEK #2 - Shinigami

Hey everyone,

A couple weeks ago we started a weekly artist spotlight of artists that the mod team like. We weren't able to do one for the last 2 weeks since we are all very busy, but I will personally try to do one every week or week and a half.

This week's artist is Shinigami. I have been a big fan of him since his 2018 album I Will Never Be A Memory came out and even own an old piece of merch from 2018 or 2019. I felt he was fitting since we had a thread about Supachefm not too long ago and they were frequent collaborators during the pre-covid emo rap scene.

Shinigami has 9 albums and 1 mixtape on Spotify with countless more music videos, EPs, and projects on DSPs and Soundcloud including some music under an old alias, Lil Shadow. He makes a variety of genres including rap, emo rap, experimental rap, metal, EDM, acoustic music, is a frontman for a metalcore band called Until the Day Breathes. He also had a Tiktok hit in 2020/2021 with Savage Ga$p, Pumpkins Scream in the Dead of Night. Outside of GBC, Shini was one of the biggest artists in the emo rap scene starting when he was a teenager in high school. He is also entirely self written, produced, and engineered (except for a few projects/songs).

This post was MUCH longer but I accidentally closed tab and lost it all. I would be happy to explain more lore, song recommendations, affiliations, etc in the comments.

Shini, is you see this, please reach out. I would love to speak with you and maybe even interview or do an AMA for the subreddit.

Here is his Instagram (his old one was deleted years ago) and some songs I like:

Should I Sell My Bank Stocks and Go ETF Route?

Hi all,

I have 65% of my portfolio in XEQT, 22.5% in PNG for long term (been buying since high 2s or low 3s last June).

I recently bought 1k worth of each of the big Canadian banks, so $5k total last week. Made a decent little amount on them so far.

This weekend I was thinking more, should I sell these and just get a bank ETF with a lower price on the ticker? Like BANK?

Or should I go something like VDY for more energy exposure (I had to sell my XEG at a loss to buy a new car recently)

I was also thinking, maybe I sell CINC, Scotia, and BMO and put that 3k into Enbridge as well?

I know XEQT holds all these of course, but my thinking is that man, banks and major utility companies aren’t going anywhere and probably won’t ever unless our country fully collapses lol.

Enbridge is slow growth, but the DRIP is nice. Plus with all the data centers (ew) being built power will be needed even power. Same with the pipeline.

Will Working For Certain Communities Ruin My Career Prospects?

Hi everyone,

. I’ve been working for a Jewish community organization for almost a year and a half. I’ve been loving the work, benefits, the pay is pretty good for my age and experience, and the culture and staff is amazing and very accommodating. I’ve also been doing really good here. In actuality maybe only 15% of our clients are Jewish and my case load probably 10% or under.

With all that’s going on in that community and the war, etc I’ve been thinking will this affect or ruin my chances of moving up in my career in the future? Since the job is so good I’m not rushing to find a new role, but with myself getting older I of course I want nicer things and to hit other life milestones that would require a bit more of a salary (even 10k more would be pretty sweet!). Now, I’m not Jewish and don’t have a connection to the community personally nor does over half of my colleagues. It’s mostly upper management that is Jewish for the most part. I personally don’t agree with the war and the actions of Israel nor do I support violence or war of any kind. The geopolitical events are also very far removed from our organization at all. We don’t really talk about it except for when a major escalation event happens we will just have a quick message or meeting that’s basically “this is a tragedy, this shouldn’t have happened. Peace should be the goal not further trauma and harm. If any of this is personally affecting you please use your benefits for therapy (sometimes we get a temporary increase in this availability during these periods) or take some time off to process”

Should I be removing the Jewish part from my resume and just put family services? I thought about that but I know as soon as my references would be called the cat would be out of the bag. Personally I believe that it shouldn’t matter, but rather what should matter in an application and interview is my skills, character, and suitability for the role.

Does anyone have any experience or advice with being in a similar or same situation in their careers?

Thank you in advance.

Will Working For Certain Communities Ruin My Career Prospects?

Hi everyone,

I’m a 25 year old male social worker. I’ve been working for a Jewish community organization for almost a year and a half. I’ve been loving the work, benefits, the pay is pretty good for my age and experience, and the culture and staff is amazing and very accommodating along with up to 60 PTO days when you factor in 13 Jewish holidays and if I used the max amount of personal time allowance. I’ve also been doing really good here. In actuality maybe only 15% of our clients are Jewish and my case load probably 10% or under.

With all that’s going on in that community and the war, etc I’ve been thinking will this affect or ruin my chances of moving up in my career in the future? He made his last post before his surrender about 5 minutes ago. This will be a long 3 years without one of the greatest underground artists of the last 15 years.

Should I Switch to This Job?

Should I Switch to This Job?

Hi everyone,

I just want to preface this by saying I just applied for this position, and it’s very likely I don’t get interviewed anyways since it seems the requirements are out of my experience level so far. I am 25 years old and have been a BSW level social worker for about 2 years now. I’m in western Canada. Both are non-profits

Current job:

\-working with seniors, intake, outreach, short term case management

\-make 51k (rounded up)/year.

\-35 hours a week, health and dental/life insurance, 5% RRSP match (comes out to about $212/month

\-WFH 2 days a week, office is very close otherwise

\-days can be slow, with some days I have basically no work (which is nice and relaxing on those days)

\-I’m treated VERY well by my employer and overall like the work environment and I’ve been here just over a year now

\-3 weeks vacation, Flex Time up to 21 hours (instead of extra paid OT), 18 personal days (sick days or for literally anything, useable down to 15 min increments), stat holidays off and 13 additional days off for a religious holidays (I’m not part of the religion but everyone gets the time off regardless if they want it, it’s paid)

New job:

\-64k minimum salary. 37.5 hours week. Says hybrid, cannot find an office address so let’s assume at least 2-3 days a week WFH on average

\-case worker position at an organization that works with those who have experienced a hate crime

\-looks like the team the position is for also heavily works with those wishing to leave lives involving being a part of a hate-motivated group (cults, white supremacy, terrorists maybe, etc)

\-primarily youth work but all ages overall

\-5 personal days, health and dental, 15 sick days, 15 stat holidays, doesn’t say anything about vacation time but lets assume 2 weeks to start, no mention of RRSP match

\-an old professor of mine in one of my more interesting classes works there as a senior interventionalist after decades in child welfare

I might be missing something, but what do you guys think?

Ultra Short Term/Possible Degenerative Plays

Hey everyone,

I’m a pretty average/ normal trader. Started around April 2025 and up about 20% overall as of today (had lost like 6% this week but it’s alright). Sold my MDA for now, so my only holdings are about 1300 shares in PNG that I started with last June and have been adding as recent as yesterdays dip.

I have the rest of my money in XEQT, and $4000 in XEG in my TFSA that has been the same for the last month or 2. Hovering between 3800-4050 the whole time.

I am needing to buy another car as my last 2 got totalled and then the replacement for that blew a month later. Part of my down payment for the eventual vehicle will be the $4000 in XEG. I plan to buy probably around middle of July or so. Are there any ultra short term and/or kinda degenerative plays I can make with the $4000 to gain maybe a couple hundred more on it at least? I know I should probably just hold it cash until I buy the car but with the cost of insurance increasing what I want to buy (used 2021-2023 CX-5 since I’m wanting it hopefully for at least 5-10 years) to nearly $4k a year because Alberta, a couple hundred more could be nice lol.

Thanks in advance

When Does It End?

When the fuck do auto insurance rates still to chill out. About 7 years driving history, 0 tickets, 0 at fault claims.

Brokers are useless, the lowest one could get for me was $5500/year, average being around 8700 and upwards of $16k/year.

TD is the lowest at $2800 (still insane) and going up to between 3600-3800 in a month…

Edit: so far I have got 11 DMs that breakdown to the following:

-1 death threat

-2 sexual assault threats (?)

- 5 people calling me a liar and that I must be a hard drug addict or have 3+ DUIs (neither are true, squeaky clean. My life is boring as hell)

-3 people who claim to work in insurance who tell me my quotes aren’t possible with my factors, 1 told me which company they were with and I sent a picture of my quote from them being almost $9000 and they instantly called me a methhead loser and blocked me?

Looking to Buy a Mazda CX-5

Hi there,

I’m looking at buying a Mazda CX-5, probably the 2021.5 or 2022 model here in Canada (prices around me are seemingly around $26-33k for ones with under 100K km). I’ll be upgrading from a 2017 Escape with the 2.0L that got a cracked engine block after a month of ownership. I’ve only ever had Escapes (2012 and 2015 which both were rock solid without issues other than a simple purge value and O2 sensor)

I am looking for the non-turbo versions to prevent more possible problems on the future. I know I’ll be losing about 100hp than I’m used to but with sport mode I can use for passing if needed I don’t anticipate an issue.

I am wondering if there are any other major issues I should worry about? I’ve read about cracked cylinder heads but thankfully those are actually fixable and from what I can tell very uncommon. And it could hypothetically happen to literally any vehicle anyways.

What are your honest thoughts on the 2021.5-2022 CX-5 non turbo reliability and mechanics wise? I do have a father that is very mechanically inclined that could work on it for any non-major issues (since he is about 250km away from me)

Thank you in advance!

This project includes, Aye Malice Where the Bass @? One of Shine’s best songs of the last couple years, which has been on SoundCloud for a couple months now.

This album is going to be insane. All of the leaks and snippets that are on here are amazing.
