Hot take: Not everything needs to be known and confirmed in your Worldbuilding

I don't like it when I read someone's Worldbuilding and in here there is an answer to everything. I am instantly told what exists in each land, what each factions goals are, what are the gods and how the afterlife looks like. Boring!

Even in our world, especially in medieval fantasy, there are a LOT of unknowns! Until 1492 Europeans had no idea what was on the other side of the ocean. In Avatar The Last Airbender we don't know if Bending is inheritable, in Witcher it isn't said what is over the Dragon Mountains and what happens to people when they die, they only guess by making religions. In Cyberpunk nobody knows what is in the deep net, there are theories but nobody confirmed what's up there and what deep net even is.

And many worldbuilders think that leaving something to a mystery is a plot hole or it makes the whole thing look bad. In my opinion, it is crucial that something remains a mystery, is unconfirmed, and people of this world only theorise about it. When we know all the gods and afterlifes from the get go, when we know definite answer to what is in that island, it leaves no room for imagination.

Mystery is exciting! When in the worldbuilding is says that the scholars of this world have no definite proof of where magic comes from, why ancient civilasation collapsed, if the gods truly want what's good for the mortals, it makes it much more immersive, it turns worldbuilding from a wikipedia document to an immersive introduction written by someone who lives in said world.

(This is kind of also why I do not like gods, afterlifes and pantheons and world creations in worldbuilding, it's underwhelming when the question of what happens when we die and how the world was made is already resolved)

What are some known unknowns and unknown unknowns in your world? What do people of your World think about those mysteries, and has anyone tried to find the answer to what is beyond the horizon? What conspiracy theories they make up? What do they only pretend to know for sure?

How do you make slang words?

I think one of the ways of making a world immersive is to create sociolects and slang words or other special ways of how people talk informally. The greatest example I can think of is Cyberpunk with words like Choom, Nova, Chrome, Borg, Delta, Corp etc.

So how do you guys create whole new words to make your world feel more immersive? And how do you make them understandable?

I feel very fragile as Thor

Maybe it's my lack of experience or something but I feel like Thor needs some kind of survivability buff.I can't get closer to more than 2 enemies or I get absolutely destroyed. I constantly have to either keep my distance and blast the lighting at shields or use covers and hope for the best.

Does anyone feel this way? I think Thors lightning bubble should generate a little overshield for him. Anything to make his surviability greater, most of the time my damage is the same as my damage blocked on Thor.

So called ,,magic prodigies" and ,,arcane enthusiasts" when they get to multilayered magic

Context:

Multilayered magic is the most academically challenging branch of magic as it requires a very good understanding of lots of magic moves, physics, memorising long equations, doing multiple spells at the same time, and in case of illusions, also the skill of drawing in perspective.

A big part of multilayered spellbooks are also written in Sauhaussi, so reading anything more advanced magic requires a wizard to learn a foreign language if they're not from Sauhausia.

Such a high learning curve causes some beginner wizards to lose interest and stop learning magic or they keep only using basic level spells.

Using different font for each accent

In the comic I am making there are 8 nations and I was thinking of using a different font for each nations accent or making my own fonts. But I am afraid that it could ruin the readability as I have very little experience in designing a font. What do you think?

I need a term for normal animals for my world inhabited by anthropomorphic animals

The world of my comic is inhabited by sentient anthropomorphic animals, like Cats, Dogs etc. but normal dogs, cats etc that we have in our world exist as well. So how do I make it clear who someone refers to when they say: ,,I see a cat"?

In my comic the sentient species are very much aware of their similarity to their feral cousins because they look similar to each other. An anthropomorphic Cat for example is sometimes referred to as ,,Cat" when talking about species but I haven't yet made a term for a normal, feral cat.

Now technically there are special terms for some anthropomorphic species, for example Cottian, but this refers to nationality. Cottian means someone from Cottia Isles-a country with native population of Catpeople, not every Catperson. There are terms for describing nationality but not species itself.

So how do I go about this? How do I differenciate between Cat-a farmer from southern Cottia Isles and cat-a four legged animal sleeping in the backyard?

▲ 2 r/fonts

Give me your feedback and opinions on my first ever designed font (context in description)

This font was made by taking a template from calligraphr, drawing it in photoshop, adjusting it in calligraphr and changing the font family name in Font Forge.

The idea was to make it look germanic, medieval and rough.

The font is meant to be used for a comic, so I want it to be readable when at small size.

What do you think?

How to make the glyph size the same as comic sans in Calligraphr?

I want to create fonts the size of Comic Sans but when I tried it, the glyphs turned out much smaller than comic sans, being even size only with Comic sans on 11 and my font on 18. How do I fix it?
