Using a Quart every 1.5 weeks or so on a 2012 XB with 230k KM, will berryman soak help?

So my 2012 XB uses a TON of oil every week. I gotta use a quart every week and half or so. I was interested in doing the berryman soak but several shops told me that its useless because if im burning that much oil, the rings are done and nothing will help and its a waste of money and the rings need to be replaced or engine needs to be changed. Is there any truth to this?

I was also told switching from 5w20 to 5w30 will help the problem a little or maybe even a lot, so is that true or even recommended?

I have been using Valvoline restore and protect for 3 or so oil changes now and topping off with it a quart every 1.5 weeks for months and there has been absolutely NO change in the oil consumption. which is alarming because ive heard so many good things about that product and it helped solve or greatly reduce peoples oil consumption issues. but for me it did or has done nothing. this makes me believe my rings are toast or something is going on that is beyond fixable with additives like oil or a soak...

anyone have any advice or insight pls share

for those with subwoofers in their 2nd gen XBs, did sub up port up sound good?

Due to the small trunk space i am forced to do Sub UP and port Up. I really wanted to do sub up and port back but there is no room for the port to breathe/work properly cuz its so tight back there so im forced to do sub and port up. So for those who have done this, how did it sound?

Better way to set gains: DMM target voltage OR use clip light on amp/bass knob?

yes yes yes I know the DD1 or Oscope is best.. BUT before i get a chance to use one of those I only have the following 3 methods to set my gain.

  1. by ear

  2. by DMM target voltage

  3. using my amps bass knob/amp clip light indicator and set gain until that clip light comes on

what would be the best way? For reference its a jp23 v2.

I did set the gain using the DMM method and no clip light comes on even with the most bass heavy track with sub level maxed, vol at the pioneers clip point 38 out of 40, even at 39 and 40 the clip light on bass knob doesnt come on. Bass sounds clean and all BUT since the clip light is not even lightly coming on whatsoever, its making me think i am leaving more output on the table.

Do you think using a 40hz -5db or -10db track with the volume on deck 35 out of 40 and simply using the bass knob clip indicator light is a better way to set the gain? I was told the JP bass knob clip light comes on a hair quicker than the DD1 so its almost the same as using a DD1 just a tad bit safer.

also 2 things

  1. should sub level be full or at 0? obviously with it maxed out the gain on the amp has to be set lower which would be less stressful on the amp im assuming.

  2. should the bass knob be FULL or half way when setting gain? i have been told both ways are right and i dont know which way is actually the proper way. Ive always been setting the bass knob full whenever i set my gains but the theory behind half way does make sense to cuz u can now boost tracks with lower level of bass/low db recordings and cut bass heavy tracks. One thing i do notice with the way i have the gain set now which i did via DMM method, the bass heavy tracks sound great but the ones with lower bass even with bass knob full., just dont have that same level of slam. it would be nice to be able to boost those more so perhaps leaving the bass knob at half when setting gains is better.

Looking for your opinions.

Thanks

Im going sealed.

Looking to get high Q subs with loose suspension that will perform great in sealed with wide frequency band and low f3 around thr 800 to 1200rms range

Was told to look into kicker comp q and dayton audio ultimax 2

Looking to run 2x 15s sealed

Anyone know what would sound better and louder? Or can someone recommend an even better sub that is meant for sealed and will give a good amount of SPL/loudness and have a low f3 ??
