Transmasc paper doll illustration that I made for Prague Pride!

My local pride approached me to make some art for them and gave my pretty much free reign, and I ended up making a vintage style paper doll illustration featuring a trans man and many references to queer culture & history.

They then used the design to screenprint official merch at pride! And I still have some tote bags left over here if you want to get one https://rejka.bigcartel.com 👀

When/how to tell my speed dating matches that I'm trans

I went to a gay speed dating event two days ago and I have two matches that I'm interested in talking to. I am however completely lost on how and when to tell them that I'm trans.

The speed dating was a 5 minute conversation where I obviously didn't say anything, and now I have their email/number to begin texting. Should I say this right away? Or should I wait until we've chatted for a bit first, but before we set up a date? How do I even write the message? Help 😭

Byzantine Angel

I saw some beautiful Byzantine mosaics in Istanbul a few weeks ago and decided to recreate one of the angels as a lino print. Because I always have to make my art queer in some way, he is showing off his top surgery scars underneath his many wings ✨

Replacement for 11 y/o MSI laptop but not much of a gamer anymore, EU, €2k budget (flexible)

My 11 y/o MSI laptop kicked the bucket and I’m looking for a replacement. The laptop lasted 11 years and its performance never really went down up until the screen died, and I’m looking for something similarly reliable. I’m not a gamer anymore so it makes no sense for me to consider gaming laptops. Specs of the old laptop: https://www.msi.com/Laptop/GS60-6QE-Ghost-Pro/Specification

Country

Czech Republic

Budget

Approx €2k

Are you open to refurbs/used options?

Maybe

Screen size

15.5-16.5 inch

Weight limit

2kg? that’s what the old one weighed

Purpose

General purpose watching movies etc, photoshop and some graphics work, very occasional gaming but mostly older games from the 2010s

Form factor

Standard/Clamshell (a regular laptop)

Intended usage

Probably the most intense thing I would use it for is photoshop (an older version though most likely), plus lots of movies etc (don’t own a tv), very occasional gaming but mostly older games from the 2010s (the only recent game I have is still wakes the deep)

Desired battery life

As long as possible, 6ish hours would be optimal, 4 is a minimum

Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life

Screen size, performance and weight, battery life (as long as it doesn’t go below 4hrs)

Info/Requirements

I don’t want get anything worse in performance than my last laptop https://www.msi.com/Laptop/GS60-6QE-Ghost-Pro/Specification where the performance won’t degrade much and that’ll last me a decade. For comparison, at work I use an old hp elitebook which is absolute shit after 4 years and requires constant restarts, and I’d like to have a laptop that won’t degrade that badly.

Ideally I would like to have a laptop that still uses an older version of ms office without copilot and all that

500GB+ memory only, ideally 1tb!

Would appreciate help on yarn and sizing!

I am making the Other Loops Tulip Loop Sweater https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/tulip-loop-sweater

The pattern calls for knitting for olive heavy merino + mohair, but I will not use mohair. Will I need more yarn if I am not using mohair?

Regrading sizing I’m also kind of lost - my chest is 93cm, I am a man so idk how well the sizing will work, and based on my chest size I would go for a size S but I am not sure if the size S will be big enough (positive ease of 20cm). I guess it is always better to make it smaller and then block bigger than make it too big?

If I make the size S, the heavy merino is 50g per skein (150 meters) so I will need 9 skeins? But since I am dropping mohair, maybe it is better to order 10 skeins? https://knittingforolive.com/products/knitting-for-olive-heavy-merino-eucalyptus-eukalyptus

Tips/advice super appreciated!

Trans summer vase 🍋🌈

I didn't make the vase itself, just painted/glazed it - I'm really enjoying painting ceramics though!

Dr Barry biography that is not transphobic?

I'm trying to find a biography of James Barry that is actually respectful and doesn't misgender him.

I've come across The Secret Life of Dr James Barry by Rachel Holmes which doesn't seem too bad based on reviews, but idk, based on reviews it also seems to frame him as intersex without any real evidence and sort of skirts around his gender as a whole. Does anyone know a biography of him that is explicitly pro-trans and respectful?

Norwegian purl with colourwork?

So I usually do the norwegian purl where the yarn is held behind the knitting. However when purling with colourwork the yarn has to be held at the front because otherwise the floats will be on the wrong side. Is there any way to do colourwork with the norwegian purl? I'm having to relearn how to purl and it sucks 😭

New etching 🌌

I recently discovered metal cutters at my studio which unlocks so many shaped plate possibilities, and I decided to start with a fairly simple arched plate.

Not sure how exactly I arrived at this idea, but something something fleeting nature of the universe etc. The quote is from Horace, meaning 'we are but dust and shadow'.

Made Abbot lino prints to match my prints of Robby!

A few weeks ago I made art nouveau style Robby lino prints, and I decided to make a matching Abbot in night/dusk colours :)

They’re all hand carved & hand printed from blocks of lino (you can see the carving in the last two images).

Merman & Sailor II

I wanted to make a part II to my merman & sailor print from last year (image 4), but of course a million things ended up going wrong and I feel like I was only barely able to salvage it. The acid was weaker than usual this time I guess because my paler aquatint shades didn’t register at all, so I had to redo the sky with drypoint and it ended up a lot different than what I was planning :/

Queer southern gothic?

So I just finished my 500th rewatch of the first season of true detective, and I really want some more of that atmosphere, but ideally queer.

Examples of books in this genre that I loved: summer sons by lee mandelo and the bayou by arden powell.

Made Robby lino prints!

Finally watched the pitt and fell in love with the show so much, and especially Robby himself!

The design is art nouveau inspired, based on the season 1 rooftop scenes, but I wanted to give it a feeling of optimism. Not sure when I’ll have time for this but I would eventually like to make a matching print of Abbot with dusk/nighttime colours as a sort of day shift vs night shift diptych.

I’ve been super obsessed with the pitt the past few weeks and had to get it out of my system, hence lino prints!

Intaglio print of a little guy in a bottle, based on a photograph by midcentury gay photographer Bob Mizer. Wanted to make something small as a break between larger prints and I figured that the reflections on glass would look pretty cool!
