Our VPS has been down for 5 days and they have no solution!

I would appreciate any help you can offer. Our VPS went down last Friday. We needed to expand the storage since we were not getting emails and when they tried we lost everything, emails website, all down.

They have supposedly been working on a fix. Yesterday we were transferred to a new VPS with new settings. Since then nothing has been fixed. I and our IT guy have called multiple times. They have no explanation, no ETA and say the problem is "complex." Tech support is also gate keeping the higher tier tech people and will not let me discuss with them directly.

Has anyone here ever had this happen before? Any suggestions? Tech support says they have escalated this to the most "urgent" status but we are going on day 6 with no emails and are losing business.

TIA

Rave at Eastridge mall. Will this end well?

From an Instagram post:

MALLORAMA - Takeover at the Eastridge Mall - We’re throwing a rave inside the mall on September 5th, after hours from 9pm-2am inside the Center Court. We’re bringing a full stage, sound, lighting and a secret lineup of DJs you can’t miss 🔥

Together with browniesandlemonade we are throwing a well produced, curated, and safe event with full staff and security. Expect this to be treated with the same care like any other event we produce!

We are so excited to be bringing something so fun and unique to our beloved eastridgecenter right here in San Jose. This place holds a real special place in our hearts and to be able to do this with you all is a dream come true ❤️ Make sure to visit them 7 days a week for their own amazing events and shops :)

Cyclospora in San Jose? Anyone here riding the porcelain throne?

I have heard we have very few cases in California, but I wanted to conduct a serious scientific survey and obviously reddit is the best way to do this.

Looks like the Google Speech to Text issues have been fixed with the new update

I have been having issues for years... bad translation, stopping in mid sentence. I clearthe the storage of Speech Recognition and Synthesis and updated the app and it seems to be working much better now. YMMV but I hope it is fixed for everyone. It was damn near unusable.

Ordered pizza on Doordash... this place adds a TIP as a menu item

Just incredibly absurd and infuriating.

  1. Who cares how your business is organized? Why should a workers co-op deserve special treatment? Pathetic.

  2. They say about 80% goes to the crew and 20% to overhead but "not to the business." How stupid is that? They HAVE to pay overhead, regardless of where the money comes from. So if that "tip" goes in part to costs like insurance that they HAVE to pay, your "tip" is in fact "going to the business." Ridiculous framing.

  3. Doordash famously surcharges everything. How much extra is Doordash charging for my "tip?"

This place is locally known for very good pizza, but also for constantly begging for money, most recently for renovating and expanding their restaurant. Because they are a worker co-op, they act like they are some sort of non-profit doing God's work and rely partially on the generosity of others to stay in business. They are a business, like any other, and need to start acting like it.

is there a better remote option available?

just got my first Roku ever today. it's a pro series 55-in TV and I'm honestly blown away.. I've never seen a smart TV interface this good and it's just so snappy and responsive. I'm so happy with it. from now on I will only buy roku's.

My only gripe is the remote leaves a lot to be desired. I don't see that Roku makes any better remote. does anyone here have any any recommendations in terms of a better universal remote that supports the voice commands and has backlit lighting.. thanks in advance.

Ok I know this is is an unusual one, but I was looking in to what it would take to hire a butler in the Silicon Valley area - not because I can afford one - but for some reason I was curious and decided to see if such services were available here. It turns out they are and this family is looking for one.

The salary is listed at $145,000–$170,000 which is obviously not poverty-level pay, but for a 5 star Downton Abbey style butler, I researched the pay here in a HCOL area and it should be well over $200k.

Second, it's not just butler work, it's butler/house manager/estate manager/personal assistant/interior operations director/vendor coordinator/errand runner/closet organizer/child logistics support/pantry inventory manager/travel-ready lifestyle servant hybrid. Insane.

The best part is that after all this family expect you do for the low-ball pay, health insurance in "negotiable." Five properties. Fourteen-thousand-square-foot mansion. European five-star service standards. NDA. On-call coverage. Travel. Children. Closets. Chickens. Please anticipate our every need before we even know we have it.

But medical coverage?

Whoa there, Jeeves. Let’s not get greedy.

I am pretty sure I know why this episode is missing from Paramount. Martin wanted to tell you, but I won the coin toss.

It's been bugging me all day, partially because it sucks to not have one of the best (IMO) episodes available, but also because of the conspiracy theories of the removal being politically motivated by the new leadership at Paramount. (My god, if that were the case The Doctor is Out would surely be missing too!)

It seems to have to do with the scene in which Frasier is in the studio and the station is conducting an Emergency Alert System (EAS) test.

The FCC prohibits using EAS alert tones in all sorts of media, including TV. (And yes I fact-checked and can provide citations). The want to avoid confusion, alert fatigue and scaring people unnecessarily.

This really has to be the only reason. There are other episodes with smoking that are still there, and of course The Doctor is Out is still available so it's not about any sort of homophobia on Paramount's part.

So why is it still available on Amazon? I think the reason is that the Paramount merger just happened and the content is being audited to ensure they do not run afoul of any FCC issues. I would guess if it was available pre-merger, it will be back soon (hopefully).
