How Did I Not Know About the Avelyn Weapon!?

I was watching a gamer on YouTube play Dark Souls for the first time and I just saw him find a chest on top of a bookshelf in the Duke's Archives I did not even know existed. In it, the Avelyn Crossbow which is a weapon I also did not know even existed!

How am I hundreds upon hundreds of hours playing this game and never once did I hear or seen this weapon!?

Grime Progression Help

Okay, I need some help in progressing the game. I've been stuck here for a while and I am getting frustrated. I may be blind but I just cannot see it:

1: It's a dead end. There is a a plant enemy down there but otherwise I don't see a way to progress further down to the objective.

2 & 3: They seem to require a double jump ability to overcome.

4: This one seems like either a double jump ability or a way to approach it from the right somehow.

5 & 6: I just have no idea how to begin accessing those two little areas.

The Night Wanderer

I added this game to my Wishlist back in October 2024. However, I have yet to see any news regarding its development or release date. Has anyone heard anything about it? Their STEAM page says:

>Embrace the power of ‘The Night Wanderer’, a groundbreaking RPG and soulslike fusion! Dive into Metroidvania-inspired level design and master the tactical, yet lightning-paced combat system.

I will be watching this one closely.

Dark Souls 3 & Return to Lothric

Dark Souls 3 is the only soulsborne game I have played once. Today starts the Return to Lothric event and I would like to take this opportunity to play the game once more. Please give you your detailed recommendations on builds I should try for jolly cooperation across Lothric.

Echoes of Yi: Samsara

This game is running a sale on STEAM. I see it has mixed reviews. Most of them talk about jankyness. What type of jank is it? Is it a good enjoyable jank or is it really that bad? I'm thinking about buying it.

Regarding the Kristala Situation?

The game is currently on sale on Steam from $40 to $24. I played the demo when it first became available and I was not impressed. The amount of bugs was ridiculous. I also have been following this subreddit and the general consensus when the game released was that it shipped with a ton of issues.

So, my question is, have enough patches been deployed to make the game more bearable and if so, is the current state of the game worth buying the game on sale?

Mouseward's Demo was Fun!

Someone posted a trailer preview of this game yesterday and I was charmed. I was able to download and play the demo last night and it was fun. I'm loving the simplicity of it. Though even in the highest difficulty, any experienced souls-like player like me would have no issues with it.

Combat feels smooth. I am liking the mechanics so far. The demo level was impressive in design. Good shortcuts, exploration and little secrets. There were a total of 3 NPC quests available in the demo, which requires you to backtrack a little bit, but they were clear and simple enough to understand.

I am very much looking forward to the full release.

Crimson Oath Review

I just finished Crimson Oath. Here are my thoughts:

It is a very indie game. It's janky to the likes of Dolmen and Morbid: Lores of Ire. However, the jankyness is charming. I believe the game was made by three developers. The English voice acting is not very good, but the gameplay makes up for it.

The game is linear. Every level is disconnected from each other; however, each individual level is well designed and very interconnected. There are a lot of shortcuts, but unlike other titles, the shortcuts you open in this game are purposeful and quite useful.

Combat is very fluid and has weight to it. The developers went with a Sekiro-style deflection system and adopted the guard and health bar damage system from Thymesia.

You only have two weapons. Your sword which is a light attack to dwindle down enemies' guard and your longsword which is a heavy attack to damage their health once it has been exposed. You also find a good variety of special skills that are used by consuming energy.

The equipment in this game is the equivalent of rings in the Dark Souls series and as you progress the game you unlock passive abilities that let you deal with enemies in different ways.

Enemies have a variety of perilous attacks that can be delt with differently. The red attacks are un-counterable so they must be avoided. Yellow attacks can be interrupted in one of three ways depending on what the enemy is doing: 1) Normal yellow attacks can be perfect dodged or interrupted by a gun counter, 2) Overhead slam yellow attacks can be interrupted by perfect deflection or gun counter; and 3) Stab yellow attacks can be countered by dodging into them or also gun countering them.

The game revolves around three main stats which increase either your health, your longsword damage or your sword damage. I personally leveled all three of them equally and had no issues with my build, even playing on hard mode.

The game is short as it can be finished in a little less than 10 hours. As I am not a completionist, I don't know how many more hours would be needed, but the trophies seem quite straight forward.

All in all, I recommend this game for everyone who enjoys souls-like, and especially those who enjoy Sekiro.

My final score for this game is 7/10.
