Hi friends,
You are amazing and wonderful, inspiring me daily to work on my never ending mending pile. Thank you for being part of this sweet community, I am grateful for you and your efforts to keep your mending as invisible as possible!

Unfortunately I’ve been seeing an uptick in karma farming bot posts lately. I hate bots almost as much as I hate ticks! So I have to enforce a new rule. Any account that posts someone else’s work (*without linking to the original post) will be removed and the account banned. I don’t want to waste any more energy on low effort karma farming. Thank you to people who flag these posts, it helps me remove them quickly while I chase my toddler around.

You are still welcome to share a mend that you didn’t do, so long as the original post (or link outside Reddit) is very prominent in your post. I love seeing inspiration and tutorials, please keep sharing those, but the original creator MUST be given credit.

So again, thank you from the bottom of my heart for being so creative and sharing your hard work. Together we can fix all the things!

How important is it to anchor furniture during toddler years?

Help settle a debate, please. My son is 11 months old, walking, and my husband has not done much baby proofing. He has put locks on a couple drawers. There are several tall dressers, armoires, and standalone cabinets in the house, all of which would definitely crush a child if they fell over.

I’m wondering how dangerous is it to NOT have furniture anchored while my baby is still so small? My husband says that the cabinets/etc are too heavy to tip over. From what I’ve read, it’s the heavy furniture that’s the most dangerous and deadly.

I would anchor them myself but I’m not good with power tools, and he works in construction. My Mom (who lives with us) is a boomer parent who never anchored anything for her kids, also evidently I just listened when she said no. So she thinks he doesn’t need to anchor anything either.

So is it important to anchor furniture, or is this just a marketing hype by the companies who sell furniture anchor equipment?

Is there an updated CurlScan site?

I’ve been using the CGM for a while now and my hair is so happy! I use whatever conditioner is on sale to co-wash, and have been using the CurlScan website to check if a conditioner or leave in product is “safe”. But just saw the website hasn’t been updated in over 2 years!

So I’m wondering if anyone knows a more up to date version of the CurlScan site. It was so easy to just search a product, I get so confused by trying to read ingredient lists. Thanks for your help!

Is this too loose?

My husband says this is the “tightest it will go”. I’m pretty sure he is wrong because I tightened it a LOT more after taking this video, but wanted to check with the experts. Is this acceptable for a safe car seat install?

How to become certified as a babywearing educator?

Long story short, I’d like to become certified as a babywearing educator. What’s the best way to go about this?

What sunscreen are we buying?

I signed up for 8 weeks of *daily* swim classes at 11:30. Kiddo is almost 1 year old and will be wearing long sleeve shirt, and swim hat. I realistically will just wear a swimsuit as I hate the feeling of swim shirts. We will only probably be in the direct sun for 30-45 minutes (we live in a tree dense area so I never wear sunscreen) but the only Tiny Tots classes are right when the sun is strongest!

I’m looking for a decent sunscreen that’s relatively inexpensive, available in the US, and is not strongly scented. I read past posts and I just can’t justify spending $20 (plus $30 shipping!) for a small tube of Laroche posay. I am super confused by mineral, etc, please just tell me what to order so I can worry about something else.

What sunscreen did you buy for yourself and your kids that is reasonably priced and reasonably safe?

Looking for a stretchy baby boy swim shorts pattern

A friend asked me to make some swim shorts for her soon to be 1 year old boy. I’d also love to use the pattern to make some all purpose shorts for my baby, who’s wearing 12-18 month size. I primarily use a serger, so something designed for stretch knits would be ideal.

Everything I’ve found so far is just a tutorial, not a pattern I can print. Or designed for woven fabric. I’m pretty solid on construction, I just need a pattern to trace (without cutting up his existing shorts!)
