Don’t show things like this stopped working (desktop web)

Recently, say the last month or more I’ve been getting way too many recommendations for other subs related to subjects I have zero interest in.

I like having recommendations on since that’s how you find new stuff. But there is such a huge amount of Star Wars and trek subs that the algo will never run out of them to show me despite me saying “don’t show these”.

I thought this used to be context sensitive.

I just created the Little Box 4-byte ram module in Turing Complete

If you have any interest in learning how computers do stuff, I highly recommend this game.

It starts out very simply, and has you build each component starting with just a NAND gate. Once you build the component, it lets you use them later as pre-built components. Like the AND gates in this pic I already made myself in an earlier level.

This image is of a box that takes a number input of 0-255, a trigger bit for saving a value to an address, a two-bit address (0-3), and a trigger bit to load the number from an address and output it.

The save bit is the partial circle in the upper left, and the load bit is the partial circle in the upper right.

On the removal of physical media

None of what I am about to say is meant as a complaint about people being upset. I am only explaining my perspective on what is happening.

The fact is, since the Xbox added the hard drive and console games started getting patches, this was inevitable. What gets out in a disc is irrelevant if it’s not the latest version.

I was poo pooed at the game studio I was at when I said this when the Xbox released. “Oh Microsoft won’t allow games to go out that NEED to be patched.” Yeah right.

Many of the games we play today just wouldn’t work well in their disc-only unpatched state. So you’re going to need to connect and get the current version online anyway. Before we attack there, let’s remember games have become massive works and it’s impractical to expect larger games to ship in a nearly bug-free state.

I expect to be downvoted into oblivion. But the era of self-contained collectible video games has been over for a long, long time. They’re just fully admitting it now.

All the rage about this will pass, and we’ll all be ok. We’ll still play games, and we’ll all still have a lot of fun. That’s what this should all be about anyway… having fun.

Finally, a good solution for moving a selection of photos from iPhone to Windows PC

Microsoft Phone Link!

It now lets you transfer files.

  • Install the app on your phone, and run Phone Link from Windows.
  • Link your phone with the steps.
  • Go to photos in your phone.
  • Select the photos you want to transfer.
  • Hit share.
  • Select Windows Link from the list of share targets. You might need to "show more" to see it.

Hell yeah, I just solved this, and have been wanting a solution for years. Phone Link is just getting this ability fairly recently.

EDIT: Lots of interesting other solutions, which didn't show up in the previous thread I found about this in this sub. Thanks, everyone.

What's your favorite sample in a BoC track?

I think for me, it's that first time you hear "Bordering Canada".

Lots of honorable mentions, like "yeah that's right" and the following giggle, the monologue in Devil is in the Details, the storyteller at 2:45 in Eagle in your Mind...
