Noseblind after 30 fragrances in one day, how do you actually test without destroying your nose?
So I just got into fragrances like three weeks ago. Smelled Terre d'Hermès Intense Vetiver at a counter and absolutely fell in love with it. That sent me straight into the deep end, Fragrantica deep dives, YouTube rabbit holes, the works.
Finally had a chance today to actually go out and test everything I've been eyeing: Azzaro Most Wanted, JPG series, Hermès, Spicebomb, all of it. Hit up both Sephora and Shoppers Stop thinking this would be a fun afternoon.
Yeah, that did not go as planned.
After maybe the first 2-3 scents, my nose just... checked out. Everything after that was just alcohol blasts with zero differentiation. By the time I'd hit 30 fragrances, I genuinely couldn't smell anything anymore. It all just felt numb.
I read about coffee beans supposedly "resetting" your palate, but honestly? Didn't do a damn thing for me. Maybe I was doing it wrong, but I'm skeptical they actually work.
Real talk though: How do you people actually do this without your nose completely giving up? I can't exactly make these store trips every other day. Is there a legit strategy I'm missing, or does everyone just have to accept that testing more than a handful in one session is basically pointless?
Any actual advice would help. Don't want to keep nosediving my senses every time I try to find something new.
