Just watched one of the craziest storms of my life

1:50am central: We were all woken up by a hailstorm pelting everything.
I rushed to close windows but was mesmerized at my top floor window looking out to the area with streetlights.
It was one of the craziest storms I have ever seen and I have seen many being raised in tornado alley in Missouri.
The water couldn’t get down fast enough, the wind was blowing it everywhere though most strongly with endless quarter sized hail from the south. We have already had heavy rain and thunder for hours so the streets are flooding. So much hail it has blanketed everywhere and we can already see our garden is wrecked. The middle of the road where the water wasn’t rushing is a sheet of ice piling up inches thick.

Thinking of the farmers whose lives depend on the food.
Thinking of all the unhoused in my city (one of the worst of the country) and how a tent will have been destroyed in that.

I don’t hate wild Midwest weather, in fact, I have always loved the wide range. And hail is not unheard of in August here. But this was so intense. And we’re having damaging, dangerous weather every month, all the time. And such extreme shifts between hot and cold temps.

I just returned from a family event in the southern part of the state where a cousin who is also a farmer just could not get himself to let go of denying climate chaos. He’s the oldest of generation X, and it’s just so damn heartbreaking to be so dismissed by older people. Why can they not just admit it and be in this together with us? (I’m a millennial.)
It’s mind boggling and depressing and I feel incredibly discouraged and hopeless in this moment 💔

Just now watched Olivia Rodrigo episode and loved it!

I usually watch the episode the week after on YouTube, but saved this one to watch in full at my mom’s house.
I loved it!
So many of the sketches made me laugh out loud: “My Ex,” “Busted,” “Rasta Driver.”
I love SNL no matter what, but it was so fun to be laughing aloud so much!

Did I f*** this up??

I was just trying to help my mom by putting a lightbulb in this lamp.
It looked like a bulb was broken off and stuck in there but once I put pliers to it (and freaking crimped it to try to turn it out) realized I think not.
But now a smaller based bulb can’t get in there.
GD!

I tried to use the pliers again to pry it back out to form but it is risking crimping it more.

Yikes! Help!

ISO info on this elusive book

Has anyone directly read this book or one from the series?

The Edge of the World

I am finding so little information on this book or the author (William Sarabande pen name of Joan Lesley Hamilton Cline).

I have searched on Reddit and looked for posts on other social media platforms. Saw a line that maybe the whole series is more violent than I would choose to read.
I found it in a lending library and was intrigued but don’t want to waste the time if it is a racist perspective of Indigenous people or anything like that. Please help someone!

PSA for all of us + tw death & overdose

A young neighbor of mine passed away yesterday and was found today by his partner.
It was a crime investigation bc of a drug overdose.

I was able to be with his partner all morning during the investigation and questioning and as the body was moved, which I am thankful for, but terribly sad about the dehumanizing methods of the system.

Anyway, the point is: make sure someone, and ideally a few someones, know what you want. Know who to call, who you want called. If you don’t trust or get along with your family, you need to have a legal power of attorney that will make sure your wishes are communicated and a legal next of kin besides your family. Tell them where you want your body to go, what kind of internment and services you want, who you want to be in charge of everything.

If you live alone, make sure someone is checking in on you every other day at least. Give someone you trust your phone password. Write your wishes down and ideally get it in a notarized will.

It is hard to think about for many people, and hard to talk about, but it is so important. These moments are difficult for those we leave behind and family dynamics make things messy.

Get to know your neighbors. Check on one another. Tell your dear ones you love them. And f***ing stay away from drugs.
