Does Lush have the Autumn and Halloween range in store yet?

It's available on the app, but I've got empties to return. Heard rumblings that it'll be on the shelves starting Friday, but sometimes they drop a bit early at the flagships! Thanks in advance!

My most beautiful plush 💎

(Don't tell the others, obvs)

Even more striking in person. I'm not normally one for Hansa. Sometimes I think some of their plush are too realistic and their fixed expressions can come across a little severe/unsettling, but this guy captured my heart straight from the listing. The air-brushing is gorgeous, but it's those eyes that sold me! I don't know how they can be piercing and soft at the same time.

He is my second snow leopard plush. I believe he was released in 2010, and the seller's listing suggested he may have been a Harrods exclusive in the UK. I managed to get him for a little over half of what he sold for at retail.

Looking for name suggestions. I don't often name my plush, but since this guy isn't very cuddle-friendly, he at least deserves a name. I'm thinking something sophisticated... I'm leaning towards Claude, but I also like Jasper! 🩵

Do we know when the Autumn and Halloween lines will be rolled out in-store in the UK?

Recently realised just how many empties I have! I don't live locally to a store so want to make the most of this trip and try to get a bit of both from both releases. Sorry if this has already been answered.

Some recent TLK additions ☀

I'm a casual TLK collector who adds to my collection whenever I want to/have the budget. Here are some things I've picked up lately :)

Japanese Laserdisc

Found this for £3 on Ebay. I purchased a laserdisc for the 1995 film Balto (another film I collect for) not too long ago and was surprised by the display potential of these. I don't own a laserdisc player (like 98% of the population) but I have heard that laserdiscs are the closest you can get to the original theatrical prints, which is tempting. Alas, I probably have the combined technical knowledge of a retirement village. I really like that this cover art has the sun motifs! And the back is so colourful and fun too.

Book Nook

A gift from my bestie. I'll see you all in 56 years when my autistic ass finally assembles this. (I'm the person who takes three weeks to build a LEGO set intended for a small child. This is basically rocket science to me.)

Vintage Applause Simba plush with original tag

I'm not the biggest fan of the original plush released for the film by Mattel and the Disney Parks tbh, but I am the kind of collector who loves vintage items that look like they've just been picked up off the shelf.

Simba and Sarabi vintage sweatshirt

I am old enough to remember a time when this sweatshirt was valued at $200 or more by most resellers. I bought it for $25. Everyone applaud.

Simba and Sarabi Disney Parks ceramic figurine

I've wanted this one foreveeeer. Part of a small line released exclusively in the Parks, also including a Mufasa and Zazu piece I'd like to get, and a Rafiki piece I'm not too fussed about. This listing ended at 2am my time. I didn't think I'd win, but just in case I put in a maximum bid before going to bed. Lovely surprise to wake up to! Such a sweet scene. Came in its original box, too!

I have a collecting Insta -- I'm a bit selective with who I let follow because I'm all about curating my space, but chances are if you're also a TLK collector I'll follow back. Handle is squishskunk :)

Employer reported double earnings on UC

I have a maths learning disability and would appreciate as simple an explanation as you can manage. Sorry in advance for any daft questions as I try to parse this.

I receive UC and am in the LCWRA category. I also work part-time, and I get paid every four weeks.

This month I've been "underpaid" by around £300 by UC. My reported earnings for this month are actually equivalent to two months' worth of wages. I immediately entered a message in my journal explaining this and asking for advice on how to rectify it.

After doing some research, I've since learned that because I get paid every four weeks, I get 13 payslips a year, but UC only pays out 12 times. Am I right in saying that what has happened this month is that I've had two paydays fall under the same assessment period, so technically it looks as though that's what I've earned in a single month?

My assessment period is the 18th to 17th. My May pay date was the 21st, my June pay date was the 18th, and this month's was the 16th. Is it because of the May and June pay dates that this has happened?

If next month's pay date is the 13th of August, is this likely to happen again?

I am aware that there is nothing UC can do to rectify it, but I need to know, for budgetary purposes, whether I am going to receive another "underpayment" next month.

Thank you for your help!

Show me your skunk plush (include brands please) <3

Skunks are one of my top five favourite animals, but they're poorly represented in plush form. Orrrr maybe I'm just too picky. Or maybe it's both!

Pictured here are my only two plush -- the smaller plush on the left is from Ravensden, and she was part of my sponsorship package with a local zoo. The larger plush is from the Italian brand Lelly Venturelli. I ordered three of their plush and they arrived today (skunk, a small lynx, and a lion.) Really impressed with the quality. This skunk is so cuddly. Would recommend!

I'll mention now that I don't like the Build a Bear skunk; I'm only interested in quadrupedal skunks. I also prefer plush that are a bit less generically "bear" looking and that some attempt has been made to honestly capture their likeness, particularly in their weasel-like faces (though they aren't part of the same family. Sorry, autistic, had to say it.)

Thanks in advance! This sub is one of my favourites on Reddit because people are always so supportive of one another and generous with their time.

70s(?) disco track in background of TikTok

I'm guessing probably a remix if it's playing before an audience of this demographic! Help!

Can make out some lyrics but not enough to ID:

"You set my soul on fire" (This is in every 70s song lol)

"I wanna stay with you"

Your favourite non-TLK performance from a TLK cast member?

Me rereading this title 500 times to make sure it makes sense 😭 You get it right??

My favourites from James Earl Jones are ridiculous but on brand for me. His appearance in the Season 4 episode of Frasier, one of my favourite shows, and his role as Santa in Recess, another of my favourite shows. I think that might be my favourite VO role of his after Mufasa. Yes, I'm putting that above Vader. (I have never seen a Star Wars.) (I've also never seen any of his stage performances, if any recordings exist.)

Nathan Lane in The Birdcage -- don't need to say anything else; if you haven't seen it, correct that immediately. He also pops up in Frasier, but if I'm being so honest... it's his role as the Disco "Distraction" in Austin Powers: Goldmember that has stayed with me all these years. Legitimately one of the first gay characters I remember seeing on screen!

Jim Cummings as Steele in Balto, another fav <3

Today I hung out with some Fulis

Extra pics and videos in comments!

Necessary disclaimer: this was a keeper-supervised experience/feed that took place at a BIAZA accredited zoo. Two keepers present at all times; we were never in direct contact with the cheetahs (the video with the chee with the amputated leg is me placing my camera right up to the wire, which I couldn't do with the larger male because I value my fingers), and the cheetahs were free to go be cheetahs at the other end of their enclosure whenever they wished.

This video is of the beautiful dominant male in the coalition, whom I fed lots of chicken with tongs. :)

Belated birthday gift, and it really was a gift to get this close to one of the most striking animals on the planet. It's unbelievable how (domestic) cat-like they are. There are also lions housed at this zoo, and we paid them a visit afterwards. The disparity in size makes you admire wild cheetahs all the more.

Fun fact: did you know their skin is spotted? I did not (until today!)

My job interview buddy today, Kiwi

Stowed away in my backpack! We're home now and reflecting on how disappointing the experience was. I had really hoped this would be more accommodating for my chronic illnesses. Turns out this REMOTE job advertisement could've been a lot more transparent about its on-site expectations lol. Back to the hunt. I picked this girl up from the gift shop of my favourite zoo last weekend, and I've become surprisingly attached to her already. This doesn't happen often with me and plush. She's a small ring-tailed lemur from Keeleco. 🖤🤍

My first Balto tattoo

Celebrated my birthday last week. Told myself I could either get another production drawing framed, or my first Balto piece.

I went with the latter! 🐺🩵

Working full-time on LCWRA?

This is very much a hypothetical. There is a possibility that I will be invited to a second interview for a position next week, which, if I am offered, would be full-time.

It's a full-time remote position, which is the only way I could ever work full-time due to urgency/incontinence. I'm in the LCWRA group due to this condition, as well as a host of others.

I currently work part-time in an emotionally-charged, client-facing on-site role. This would be in a similar field but with half as many client interactions. If anything, it suits my health much better than my current role. Despite that I'm not 100% sure I would accept the offer, as I haven't worked full-time in a couple of years due to my health worsening.

I understand that my payments would be reduced (55p per £1 earned, etc.), and that's not what I'm asking. Would I have to declare that I'm now working full-time? Would it trigger a reassessment? Can it be done?

How to cope with the guilt of single-use disability aids

Mainly from an environmental perspective. My disability aids are not biodegradable. Currently, I manage with only one a day, but even that stacks up. I feel extra terrible because the aids aren't always used, but without them I wouldn't be able to sleep comfortably overnight or leave my house. Any advice from those in a similar situation? I know I didn't choose to be disabled by my condition and I deserve to live as comfortably as I can with it, but I still feel bad for the planet :(

My crew/production items

Why yes, I am Santa Clause-posting in June! 😎

I've posted in this sub before about how I collect merchandise from the first film exclusively. This movie is a lifelong special interest for me. Most of it is packed away with the rest of my festive decor, but not these two! One, because it only arrived in March, and the other because I'm hoping to send it to a repairer before Christmas rolls around again.

Pictured here is the crew jacket and what I believe to be a premiere gift.

The crew jacket was a grail item for me. You might also call these jackets "production swag" -- they serve the dual purpose of identifying the crew when they're on location and of being a gift from the upper production team. The logo is embroidered, and I think it's from early in production, since we don't see it on any other merch. I love the detail of the Clause card acting as the inner label.

The snowglobe is extremely rare. Mine is the only one I've ever seen listed anywhere. I've never even come across it in archived listings. The reason I suspect it is from the premiere is because of another special interest of mine, the animated film Balto. Snowglobes were handed out at the premiere for that film and they look remarkably similar to this one -- same wooden base, and exactly the same gift box. The water has yellowed from age. I would be really interested to know whether anyone else owns this globe and if they have any further information about it.

I'd also love to see anyone else's production items, if they have them! I know a bunch of stuff from the sequel and the TV show was recently auctioned off. If anyone has anything to sell from the first film, you know where to find me :)

Everyone say "Thank you The Power of One (1992) Original Motion Picture Soundtrack"

Listened to this album while I was doing housework this morning and it got me wondering. How many people know that The Lion King was not Hans Zimmer and Lebo M's first collaboration?

The Power of One (1992) laid the foundation for TLK's rousing score and legendary choral arrangements. Zimmer was hired based on his work on this film. If you've ever seen the 1993 workprint version of TLK, you'll recognise many of the cues from Power's score used as temp tracks. IIRC, this cue, "The Rainmaker", was used as the temp score for the film's finale.

Fun(?) fact: this score reportedly led to Hans Zimmer being blacklisted in South Africa for his participation in "subversive filmmaking" -- to give you some context, Power debuted in the thick of apartheid.

Share your unpopular Balto opinions

What counts as "unpopular" is subjective, of course. I'll start!

  • I genuinely find it hard to take either of the sequels seriously 😭 Fair enough to anyone who enjoys them because you are clearly stronger than me.
  • We don't need a fourth film, and we certainly don't need a remake.
  • The White Wolf, as a character and as a scene, is more powerful, poignant and meaningful when the character has no relation to Balto. Aniu is the worst thing about the first sequel for me. It takes that scene and what that moment means to Balto and waters it down to something completely artless. For shame Balto 2 team, for shame 😔
  • While I love Balto's character design and character arc -- basically everything about him -- I don't think Kevin Bacon does the character justice. I have come around to his performance in later years, and can appreciate what he added to the character, but I do think it's too subdued for its own good.
  • Boris is the superior sidekick, but Muk and Luk aren't that bad. They earn their place in the story when you realise that their arc mirrors Balto's! They're also orphans, and only discover who they are and what they can do once they leave the safety of Nome and its periphery and journey into the wild.
  • Steele's animation and its complete lack of subtlety are perfect; no notes, understood the assignment. I personally think this criticism might not exist if Balto had a stronger VA to try to match Jim Cummings' energy!

It will never not be funny

That the population of Nome merely stood around while two (juvenile but still very much apex predator-y) polar bears charged into the town centre and that the dog that was disqualified from racing because he was too dangerous, a dog widely despised, was inexplicably leading the town's team.

To be fair, if I found out my child was not going to perish of a devastating disease after all I would probably be mindlessly euphoric as well. 😭
