Proposal and engagement questions

Problem/Goal: I was planning to propose in a year and wanted insights. For rings, would you want to pick out the engagement ring with your partner?

For proposing, does the girl know and anticipating lang or is it a complete surprise?

Context: Kind of got flamed in a western sub because I worded a question wrong about picking rings (masyado daw possessive red flag ako since I was asking if a ring with 3 equal sized gems in her preferred color had 1 in mine since partner has similar jewelry that she likes) but Id like insights from couples.. Me and partner have discussed naman that we are both open to tying the knot but we aren't rushing. That being said I was aiming to choose a ring but I wanted to surprise partner. Di ko sure if the act of discussing beforehand is cultural or a need to do so (in which case immature ako sorry)

thoughts niyo po on choosing an engagement ring with your partner. for the girls, do you want it to be a 'complete' surprise or do you prefer talking with them and the surprise is purely kelan ispring yung question so more of anticipation lang?

Previous attempts: none. Thanks for insights and advice

The lady's color is purple, mine is blue. Would having the center gem in blue be bad?

Title. I'm starting to pick out designs and this one really caught my eye since I dont like the big solo gem types plus it fits my girl's style more. The thing is her favorite color is purple while mine is blue and I thought that having the center gem in my colors would be nice and as a bit of possessiveness I guess...

For context Ive gifted her a few pairs of earrings and the ones that have both blue and purple are what she consistenty wears when we're together.

Not sure if that would affect rings like would it take away that my color is the center of the ring and not about her or does it have a hidden meaning that Im not aware of or if it would just look bad/not even look like an engagement ring at all. Thanks for the advice
