JOUR 320

Anyone that’s a journalism major - please let me know who the best professor is for JOUR320!! Options for this upcoming semester are David Lightman, Abbie Bennett, and Jerry Zremiski. I know it’s a weed out class no matter what, so I don’t want to be stuck with a bad prof. Thank you!!

Is my birth control interacting with my duloxetine?

Hello,

Although my duloxetine was working great for me for two to three months, recently the effects have worn off. I suddenly feel myself slipping back into a depression. The duloxetine calms my heart a bit (my anxiety often causes increased heart rate), but I otherwise don’t feel as happy as I once did and I feel little motivation. I am wondering if it’s at all correlated to taking birth control pills, or maybe I just need to up my dosage.

For context, I am currently taking Duloxetine 40mg. I recently started taking my hormonal birth control pill (Syeda) again about two to three weeks ago. I stopped it for a couple months but ultimately decided to get back on it again because my skin was breaking out.

The past week and a half, I have been really depressed. It’s incredibly frustrating because I thought I had finally found a solution, and now I feel as worse as I once did. Can birth control pills interact with duloxetine?

To anyone that answers, your help is appreciated!!

I (21F) am feeling conflicted in my relationship with my boyfriend (22M). We are long distance and have been on a break, proposed by me, for a couple months now.

We’ve been dating a year and a couple months, not including this break.

I originally initiated a two week break in March because I was feeling unheard over a major conflict in our relationship (it’s come up a couple times). The break was under these conditions: that we remain loyal to each other and have no contact during that period. However, once the two weeks were up and the time came to discuss/resolve the issue together, we immediately fought. He accused me of following a new guy on social media, and went as far as to say I needed to share my location with him. His insecurities that I’m secretly seeing other men were projected onto me and this made me exhausted. I have been loyal to him throughout our relationship, and i have never given him a reason to believe otherwise.

A couple days later, he broke up with me and claimed he was dragging me down and he saw how he wasn’t treating me well. I was devastated but I still wanted to make things work. After ruining my night out with my friends, he wanted to take me back and told me he regretted the break-up. I told him that I would need to take some space for myself until this summer to focus on college. The only reason I’ve been proposing space is because the arguing was pulling me down into my depression. I couldn’t talk to him every day for fear of arguing and because of my anger and hurt, so I wanted to work through it independently. I didn’t want to lose him. I recognized it could be unfair to expect him to be loyal to me and for us to not speak for such a long time so I gave him the opportunity to leave, several times. He told me it didn’t sound unfair and he understood. He has made it clear he really wants to make things work and he’s never loved anyone as much as me.

Now, I’m torn as to what to do in my relationship. I can either forgive him and heal (which I’m desperately trying to do) or break up with him. For my loved ones (my family and friends) it seems like an easy choice because they’ve seen how hurt I’ve been. Even my family, who still believes he’s a good man, thinks he’s not a good partner for me anymore. The choice seems obvious to outsiders but I still hold so much love for him. Reminiscing on our memories and missing out on his life now hurts so badly. When we were dating in person, things were going so well and our relationship was healthy. Distance and fighting over time lead us to be mean to one other on multiple occasions, which breaks my heart. I still hold resentment towards him and I’m smart enough to know there’s no point in staying in a relationship where you resent your partner. I’m trying to get over it.

If I were to stay, we’d still be long distance for another year at least and we’d only get to see each other once a month if we’re lucky. I’m in a constant inner debate with myself. In one moment, I’m so sure it’s worth it because I do love him (although I know love alone is not enough). In another, although painful I’m so sure it’s the best option to go our separate ways.

How do you heal and move on? Can a relationship recover from something like this? Can people share with me their own experiences?
