Should I apply to NYU grossman

I have 3.81 gpa and 525 MCAT, I also have great extracurriculars, recommendation letters and outstanding story. My concern is my GPA, I immigrated by myself at 17 and worked more than full time hours during school. My gpa dropped due to the abuse, depression and housing/nutrition issues I experienced during my first two years of college, but I also have a strong upward trend of straight As after my housing and economic situation resolved. To add up, I am multilingual which I think is a great benefit to my application

Should I sleep or pull an all nighter

Hey, I have to be honest, I am an absolutely hopeless person when it comes to waking up early. Tomorrow I have a college class that starts at 6:30 am and that is 40 minutes away. There was no other option except this morning class. 6:30 is extremely early for me, I struggle to wake up even at 9-10am. The class is ridiculously long and goes from 6:30am to 4pm. I am considering not to sleep at night, go to class and sleep after it ends. I am also considering to give it a chance and to try to sleep normally, but I take medication that has a side effect of sleepiness and makes my waking up the worst part of the day. Basically, I struggle to wake up and may oversleep. Alarms don’t help. I even slept through fire alarms. However, if I don’t sleep the whole night I put myself at risk of health issues and poor performance. The last time I had to wake up early and didn’t get enough sleep I fainted. I also feel like my body needs more sleep than an average person’s body and I hate it. I never feel rested sleeping the usual “8 hours”. I don’t know what to do. Should I just stay awake this first night before the class? Should I sleep the first night before the class? Should I stay awake all nights before classes? I am so lost.

Also, one more thing. The attendance is super mandatory. If I miss once it’s over.

What would you do professionally in this situation?

I think that it’s pretty common for a waiter/waitresses to get phone numbers on checks or napkins, but today a customer left me their number and a very generous tip. I was debating if I should take the full tip knowing that i won’t reach out because I am married. I told my co workers about the situation and their opinions divided. Some told me that I should accept the tip and some said that it would be better to just run the 20%. I decided to just go with the actual tip following what was written on the check and signed. I didn’t do it out of greed or anything I just decided it was the most professional way to go with. I felt like if I had to change the tip amount even if it means lowering it significantly it would contradict with the check/signature the restaurant keeps as their records, but I still have doubts if it was a professional decision or not.

I’m scared to start college what should I do

Hey I’m F(21) and this is not some regular fear of changes as I have been a college student for 3 years. However, I am terrified of the new semester. I used to think that I will survive through it somehow, but the closer it comes the bigger the fear grows. The problem is that I work almost full time (about 30-40 hours it depends on a week) and I am starting nursing while finishing up my biology degree. I’m scared that I’ll be mentally destroyed. Also, my car is breaking down which was manageable, but my college is not merciful for classes skips at all. I am scared that if my car breaks down multiple times on the way to classes I might get suspended. Anyways, I am budgeting for a new car now that is more reliable. I can’t really get any scholarships, aids and a student loan is not an option for some personal reasons. I don’t really have anyone to borrow money from. I am lucky I don’t have to deal with rent and food because it is covered by my partner, but I still have to manage crazy tuition and car costs which are a lot for me. Anyways, any ideas on how to cope with this situation? Maybe better time management or something else?

AIO for thinking that my biology professor is not as good of a person as everyone thinks

This happened some time ago, but it keeps circling in my mind. Everyone I know is amazed by the biology professor and they keep talking about how great he is as a person, but I always had an off feeling about him. I thought I was going crazy until we had an event which he asked me to help him with. I politely declined because I wanted to spend time with my parent that I haven’t seen for four years and getting to see them is a miracle. He told me that I could tell them to just wait and spend time another time. “It’s not as important” he said. I was surprised by how rude it sounded to trade the time with a parent that was visiting for the first time in four years for some kind of mediocre event and how he reacted. AIO?

Customers being over dramatic

I think I do my job great, but today was the day when I was feeling physically bad. I had trouble concentrating and I had my mind foggy. I should have probably called out, but I knew we were understaffed so I decided to go anyways. I managed to serve all tables well enough, but there was that one big table where I forgot to put in one of their dishes. As soon as I realized it I sent it in. Unfortunately, it was a dish that takes a lot of time to be made. All people received their food except one person. As soon as the dish was made I ran to their table to apologize and give it to him, but he threw a tantrum and he said that he doesn’t want it because it took too much time. I tried to apologize again and offered to pay it for him, but he refused anyway. He ended up taking it and I had to pay it for him. I know my health problems are personal, but why is it such a big deal to wait a bit longer for the food? Mistakes happen and servers are people too. I knew if I tried to call out I would be forced to come in anyway. Anyways, why is it such a big deal? It is a meal that took a bit longer, it’s not that deep damn it

I want to be friends with someone way cooler and older than me, is it a good idea?

I am F(21) struggling to make new friends after I moved. I always wished that me and my partner had another cool couple to hang out with, but we didn’t really click with anyone yet. I met this cool couple while working and I seemed to get along with them pretty well. I always get excited to talk when they come. The third time they came I was determined to make new friends until I learned that they were quite older than me M(31) and F (28). Me and my partner are both F(21) and M(21). Also, they were my clients. I learned that both of them were quite successful in their fields of expertise. They are way more established in this city and they probably have their own people, places and things to do unlike us. Every time they stop by I enjoy conversations with them and wish we could be friends. I do think I am an interesting person and I don’t mind talking to people older or younger than me as long as it’s fun for both sides. I am scared that they may think that I am too young/too unsuccessful/not their level and that is the reason I haven’t invited them anywhere. I do hope that one day they would offer to grab a drink and talk because i didn’t feel that connection with any friend after I moved and my best friend stayed in the city I used to live in. Should I act and invite them over to spend time with us? Or should I give up on that idea because they are older and more successful?

How do you deal with overly generous customers

I hope i won’t get removed because this is not really a post about bragging or complaining about a tip. I genuinely wonder how to behave and act with customers who are being overly generous. I have a couple regulars who give me way more than expected which does make me happy, but it makes me feel extremely awkward too. I want to be thankful for their kindness, but at the same time I don’t want to make it seem like I’m only nice to them because of their money that they give me because I treat everyone good whether they have a big or small bill unless they are rude to me. I understand giving a little over the expected gratitude can happen but giving insanely over is rare. Should I thank them? Should I act like nothing happened and be nice? Should I give them special treatment? How do I respond? I am genuinely thankful but this whole situation makes me want to hide in the kitchen and never serve them again (I feel way too awkward and I feel like I don’t deserve so much) Pls help with advice!!

Customer called me “boring”

Oh come on, I am so sick of this job. I had a customer who wrote a review about me saying I was “too boring”. If I wanted to entertain your ass I would work for circus or strip club. If you are bringing your ass to the restaurant hoping that you are going to impress a young girl that has seven classes and a side job, you are an idiot. If you want entertainment you are going to have to spend more than 25$. This is not a zoo where you see monkeys through the window. I heard the same jokes over and over again and you are not funny.

Why most of the boomers are so mean?

I work with people and I often deal with different generations. Most of the problematic and rude clients are boomers or older X. They are the ones to be called “Karen”. I have never met a gen Z that would treat me rude or that would disrespect service, but boomers do it all the time. Not all of them are the same, but it is so common that it made me wonder - why?

AITJ for following the rule too precisely?

So, my boss asked me to come earlier as there was something urgent going on. He told me “Please come before 10am. No later than that.” I came to the office at 9:50 and brewed myself a cup of coffee because I thought I was early. I started my job at 9:58 am or 10 am precisely. My boss slammed the door and said: “All your coworkers are here since 9 or 9:30! When I said to come early I meant earlier than 10! Not 10!!” AITJ for coming at the exact time?
