Plural simplification

I've noticed that Classical Nahuatl has a pretty elaborate system of plurals but some modern variants seem to have lost much of this. I believe Huasteca only retains the meh ending. Are there any trends to note with this process or any readings related to it in general?

Replacing the head on a riqq

If I buy a riqq, would I theoretically be able to replace it with any old frame drum head, like those from Remo? I'm having trouble finding riqq head replacements. The diameter in this case would be 8.5 inches.

What price should I expect for a good quality starter ney?

I'm interested in buying a ney, from any region, but pricing has confused me so far. I see a lot of neys going for low prices like $30, and then others well over that. I'm inclined to avoid most of the cheaper ones, but I could be wrong in that. There are also many made out of plastic, and I wonder if any of those are good. In short, what's the price I should expect to buy an instrument that doesn't fight with me and that works as it should?

Audio learning resources

I'm not likely to find much, but I was wondering if there were audio learning resources out there for darbuka. I'm blind, and when I'm listening to youtube videos, the instructors don't always explain what they're doing clearly, and so I've attempted to supplement those with articles online when I can find them. Text resources would also be alright if they do not rely on vision. I'm still in the beginning stages of learning, but I've had plenty of experience with music generally so I just need resources that explain to me clearly how to do things, from basic strokes to holding the instrument, to more complex techniques. I don't care all that much which style these resources may teach, although I have an Egyptian darbuka. Thanks in advance for any help.

Extra reverb when listening to dolby atmos titles on AirPods

When listening to dolby atmos titles on my AirPods, I'm getting extra reverb. This seems to be a thing with apple's spacial audio in general, and when I turned on personalized audio, the reverb became less troublesome. But it's still distracting at times. Is there any way at all to get rid of the reverb? I listened to a preview of another book in dolby atmos and the spacial audio is already in it, which makes me question the point of dolby atmos in the equation at all. I'm using iOS.

What's your story with the charango?

Use this thread to tell stories about the charango. Either the story of how you became interested in the instrument, how the instrument generally has had an effect on your life, or the story of a particular charango you own or know of.

My interest in charango began not long after learning about Andean music. I first was exposed to anything resembling Andean music with the Mexican group Los Askis, who played an Andean Cumbia Fusion with charangos and quenas on top of more typical Latin American instruments. Following this interest, I was given a quena for Christmas. Not long after that, I decided the charango was my true calling. So I got one from charango mall. The shipping took a good few decades, but eventually, it did come.

I'm blind, so learning to play the charango has always been a bit of a challenge, as there are no local lessons available, and at the time of receiving it, I spoke almost no Spanish despite being Mexican American, This was a problem because that is what most youtube tutorials with audio are in. Fortunately, I have since learned Spanish. Unfortunately, I still play charango horribly, despite my efforts.

Best online grammar tests

I want to practice my grammar more directly. I was wondering what online websites provided good grammar focused tests for me to drill myself on. I'm not interested in popular language learning apps, but it would be nice if there were some way to quantify progress I make. My Spanish is intermediate.

Cheaper alternatives to DPA mic clips for stringed instruments

I just got a DPA 4099, but it didn't come with a clip. I wanted to get their guitar clip, but it does have a bit of a cost, and I'm not sure how many of my instruments it would actually work with. I'm mostly hoping to mic stringed instruments for a less cumbersome setup. Should I just eat the price on this one or is there something cheaper out there that would work specifically to mount it to a stringed instrument? I'm blind as well, so it's difficult at times to gage if something is actually what I need.

Mystery horror with a good ending that keeps me on the edge of my seat

I'm looking for horror that keeps me guessing about things throughout but that has a solid conclusion. I also prefer an ending that isn't too bleak or depressing. I've already listened to a lot of the most commonly recommended shows on here, so lesser known stuff would probably be best.

Best places to find world music concerts and performances

I wanted to ask what are good places to go to find performances of world music, in general? I know that venues can be random at times, and that my question could cover anything from folkloric groups to much more widely popular bands who simply happen to be from a different country.

I live in the US, so that is what I would be looking for answers from, but for others stumbling upon this thread who live elsewhere, please include any good locations or suggestions in your own countries if so inclined.

For more information, I'm somewhere between the midwest and the South, if that helps, but again, anywhere you've had luck with. My guess is that major cities would have a larger quantity of such things, but in my experience that just means more local music in general. Although I live in a decently sized city, it's no Chicago.

Best pickup to put on a charango

What's a good sounding pickup to put on my charango? I have one which is purely acoustic that I've wanted to have the option of recording or sending through a pickup. I'd prefer not drilling into the wood either. I've tried just sticking a contact mic on it but it gets too loud very fast.

The best binaural plugins in 2026

I'm currently using dearVR Pro. Seeing as it's now free, I can't complain for what it is. But I'm wondering, given that it's been out of development for a few years, if anything better has come along? I'm fine with paying for it, but I want the best of the best when it comes to general purpose mixing of binaural audio for headphones.
