Theory with Donovon Desmond and Project Apple

When young Donovan was asked about war, he said this:

>"We will never be free of war. History is clear proof of that. But what if we purged all weapons from the world? Even then, no. Because in the end... human beings are simply liars. We'd ask, 'What if other nations have kept some weapons in secret?' And so long as that doubt persisted, history would be doomed to repeat itself. We can never know the true intentions of others. Because we ourselves are hiding our true intentions. Of course, I desire peace as much as anyone. And I know that solving differences with dialogue instead of weapons is ideal. But warring like this is the best we humans are capable of. Even if there were resources left over... even if there were governmental reform or a technological innovation, I can't imagine an end to war."

The crucial part is he mentions a part about how war cannot be eradicated because humans are liars, and that we do not know if they are liars or not, and therefor peace is impossible. Which seems to be largely based off of James Fearon's 1995 "rationalist explanations for war". For peace to occur in Desmond's mind, politicians would need the ability to read if others are "lying."

This ties directly into the "clairvoyance" that Anya has. Donovan hypothetically funded a project during his time as prime minister to create the ability to read minds, in hope of "peace." During this project (Also known as Project <C>), Anya was created. In the flashback Anya has, it's also mentioned that Anya was created for world peace.

Donovan is still working on this project however, how as mentioned in the most recent manga chapter, Donovan was going to the 4th floor (also known as the neurosurgery wing). This is also confirmed by the scars on Donovan's head. One theory I saw, is that Donovan has not fully found how to replicate Anya's full abilities, but may be able to detect if a person is lying.

Anya could not read Demetrius's mind either, which could indicate that Demetrius was another test subject, but not at the full stages that Anya and Donovan are at.

Anyways, this is just a theory, but my thoughts on it.

The Companion Cube Steam Machine case is GONE. What is going on with dbrand?

Seriously, everything is gone. Their youtube video on the case is gone, their tweets talking about the case is gone, the link that used to direct to the case takes you here now. What is happening?

You'll notice this new skin they're showing off has some blurred characters on the monitor. Yesterday those characters weren't blurred, they used to say "./hl3". This tweet here can back me up on that, I was on the page yesterday too and can confirm it's not a hoax.

It's also worth mentioning that dbrand's video on the companion cube case (now removed) jokingly referenced Half-Life 3 at the end, obviously not meant to be taken seriously. Doesn't it seem strange that every mention of the case is now... Gone? Seemingly after making this "joke" ?

There's also talk on Twitter about how dbrand may not have actually been given the license to use Valve's intellectual property (the companion cube), no sources given there, and that doesn't make any sense either given that this case was announced over 7 months ago now and Valve would probably have done something if any IP was being infringed in 7 months.

Dbrand has yet to make a statement on this. Bit weird, innit?
