Grand Masters' Palace - different perspective!

A little constructive challenge ?!

Impressive building, some good contents - but doesn't cover much of Rhodes history and upstairs is all for Mussolini in early C20!

What did people really get from going inside?

Bike rack advice

I was hoping to avoid expense of a tow bar but see bike rack manufacturers warn the Scenic's shape/construction make them incompatible 🙁

https://www.car-roofracks.co.uk/bike-racks/renault/scenic-e-tech

I believe my Halford rack is made by Thule. Of 2 positions, I was hoping the lower one photographed would work -- but the above article raises prospect of damaging the plastic grey bumper area. I only need one bike, so 14kg, but not sure whether to take the risk.

Anyone know more or found a solution that's cheaper than a tow bar please? I dont like roof racks. Thanks!

References

I've decided to leave my dead-end job soon before the probation period ends and my notice period is more than I can stomach.

Thankfully I can afford a little time off if I don't find an alternative but I'm deeply conflicted whether to:

- go quietly: bite my lip, deflect likely comments of "you weren't working out"

- test whether they're interested to know why I'm leaving and then give specific honest feedback.

Context: the job recruited is way more ambitious than work I have to do - they clearly don't have momentum they wish for. It is *partly* in a pre-sales environment and more emphasis of "what else can YOU do" has arisen yet they acknowledge they're not up for coalescing resources needed to change etc. Oh and management is non-existent -- I struggle to get 30 mins per month (as a newbie) and my flexible work request isn't acknowledged.

The question to this HR group please ....

The only basis I might regret the wrong decision is a future reference. If I go 'under a cloud' (whether for not sticking up for my position or insulting them with feedback!), what do people think is likely or the worst case?

Are companies even obliged (legally/morally) to acknowledge reference requests? Are there common questions asked (beyond position & salary) or can any requester ask anything (and any responder choose how much to reply, hopefully without damaging the person concerned) ?

Thanks in advance.

Octopus Electoverse

First long journey today (100 miles). Very enjoyable drive in our Scenic. But a significant disappointment with trying to top up for the return.

Octopus Electoverse simply hallucinated 2 charge points that clearly dont exist; the 3rd hard cables that didn't stretch to our car's port no matter how we parked, which is unbelievable !!

I see why people complain about Infra! I dont need public charging often so won't pay subscription -- would value advice please as I hoped Electroverse would suit us well.

Fixed Term Annuity

I'm thinking of retiring soon aged 55. Job gone bad!! My wife is similar age but minded to work until 60. I have £1.6m in S&S ISAs; SIPP, DC, DB Pensions.

I was thinking of running down S&S (3-5 years depending how much I/we travel) then deciding which Pension(s) to call on, taking 25% Tax free so the DB can mature more.

But I'm currently minded to watch the pennies to save/invest and my mindset may not flip !! Taking an annuity for my first 3-7 years could be an option that feels comparable to a salary.

Annuitues generally seem to be paying more than ever -- apparently the combination of fairly high inflation and government borrowing helps them. AI/search caution future ones could pay a little less well.

But I dont see them talked about much on forum like this, and certainly not fixed term.

Given that retirement spending isn't flat, how have other people focused their mind easily in phased (so not questioning "how much can I spend") and is there something about FT Annuties I may be missing ?! Thanks.

Tyre sensor

My 20217 Grand Scenic has ideal measures of each individual pressure - easily reporting the degree of any pressure loss, and alerting appropriately. Lovely!

How on earth has the feature-packed eTech Scenic (even at Iconic level) got such a dumb feature? Alerting me that one tyre has lost any amount of pressure since 'normal' means I have to stop, find a garage, test all 4, even if it is a trivial amount. That's crazy !!!

Apart from the over-zealous ping-pongs (reduced but not gone after changing settings), this is the only dissapointment in a very sophisticated car --- and feels an unbelievable or embarrassing one!!

Used car maintenance history

I've bought a Scenic eTech --- yippee, got my favourite colour, red, and Iconic at a good price - ie 2024 model.

The document of first year service clearly states that by a garage listed by Renault.

However the Renault App has no maintenance history. I've only needed to enter the VIN which is publicly available info, but I dont see a way to validate myself -- it seems the information isn't there !!

Does this sound right and might it cause issues if (example) I needed to pursue something under warranty?

Semi-related -- I believe the OTA software updates are not linked to warranties, are they expected to be available until Renault declare otherwise or is there a policy of X years as phone manufacturer do?

Thanks !!

Buying used 24 model

I've found 2 2024 Scenic Iconics to buy one used - so 12-18 months warranty left after most depreciation done!

Comments here & online generally suggest no repeat issues identified to hone-in when examining or to ask to test. Any advice beyond the following please?

- check battery condition (one is 98% after 21 months)

- obviously tyre tread & external scratches eg mirrors, bumpers

- confirm advanced features Solarbay opaque; 360 camera (on screen and mirror?); heads-up display (onto windscreen). Any others please?

What documentation should it have other than log book with just 1 service stamp, are the checks done available (I believe safety/computer check & battery health report). I think I read some cars have digital histories that can be exchanged -- can that information be reviewed for the Scenic before actual purchase ?

Any advice appreciated, many thanks!

Our Tilly is 2.5 years -- we've mainly fed her roast/microwaved chicken thighs with white rice.

She refused all combinations of vegetables, and we felt this needed more variety.

Then the vet told us she's overweight at 12.9 kg ! Hard to regulate measurements.

We've tried "Pure Pet Food" which is nutritous and infused with smells -- well.received but £40 per month feels quite pricey.

Any alternative suggestions to try much appreciated.

I'm in the UK and looking at new / used / personal lease options, but must have the panoramic roof therefore Iconic trim.

Here new (2025 onward) Scenic Ionics are limited to black, grey, white -- a dealer admitted he didnt understand why "so monochrome". I've seen a used 2024 Iconic in red.

I assume this is to help manufacturing with fewer combinations -- whether sales arent high enough to risk surplus, or other reason.

I'm hoping a reader has further insight as to whether more options are being planned, or anything pertinent relevant to this, thanks!

Submitted survey photo 2 weeks ago and heard nothing back ! Not answering the mobile phone number.

Anyone know their lead time or have experience of best action (either to know where I stand or maybe alternative ??). Thanks.
