Where the heck should i stay?

Hi all,

We are tentatively planning out first cedar point trip late aug/early sept and we are trying to nail down a nice place to stay.

We are driving about 8-9 hours to the park and plan to go to the park for 2 full days and to get FLP for at least 1 day. (3 nights)

I'm the coaster enthusiast, my wife less-so but still enjoys riding them with me. I acknowledge the park is pretty minimal theming and that the focus is solely on riding coasters. With some convincing my wife is on board but we are still looking for a relaxing area to stay or something else that will round out this trip and make it feel worth the drive.

Initially i thought, "lets stay at breakers" since its on-site, walkable to the park and could feel resorty/comfy..... queue the $$$$, poor reviews, people saying 'its about the convenience' and so on.

I totally get the convenience factor, but I can't bring myself to spend close to 1k on motel level room accommodations, dated and cheap dining options, no free breakfast or no other perks aside from early entry.

I've checked out some airbnbs in sandusky and have mostly luke warm feelings to them since a lot are in "historic" buildings or are again, trying to charge crazy money for some BS in a rundown home or area. Then of course, you have a few ridiculous stays charging more than 1k for a few days and thats just unreasonable in its own right.

Lastly, every hotel option I've seen has dismal reviews, accommodations, or is just not a 'special stay' in some random part of town 20-30 min away from the park.

Please tell me there are good options out there? honestly i dont even care if I need to drive 30+ minutes to the park so long as there is a remotely decent enough lodging option.

Camping/RV/cabin is out of the question for us unfortunately.

We want to make this a fun and worthwhile trip; can anyone give us some advice?

Greensboro Gargoyles Pre-season Game

I was briefly looking at ticket prices for this game and quite frankly think they are asking for too much. 180$ for glass and 35$ for nosebleed corner opposite shoot twice side, and so many tickets are still available. Why didn't they offer a flat price for tickets? I think it was better suited to be a fun/affordable event to give people a taster of canes hockey who may not get to Raleigh often. 75$ should have been the cap.

Is this foreshadowing for home game MSRP tickets to be super expensive this year because we are defending champs?

I'll get off my soapbox. Inevitably someone will want to justify it but I am curious to know what everyone thinks. Fair? Greedy?

Flip 5 to flip 8

Hey guys!

My discussion topic is basically the title.

I currently have a flip 5, the last z flip phone that actually had a worthwhile trade in value to buy.

$1400- $430 credit for a flip 5 trade in and reserve credit does not seem like a good deal to me.

My flip 5 runs pretty decent. The screen protector cracked after a year and ive removed it. Ive replaced the case twice now too. I just dont see how 1k on a new flip8 is worth it. I have to charge my phone maybe once during the day with my typical usage but it doesnt bother me so much. I dont see any true performance issues. Do you think my flip5 will be able to last another year for the flip9? Is a flip5 to flip 8 really all that significant spec wise? Also why the hell are we getting drip fed upgrades for this particular model? It seems like phones are being made with cheaper material and thinner when i think we can all mostly agree the phones are getting too thin and we would much prefer longer battery/durability.

Anyway, what are your thoughts? Should i upgrade? I really love the form factoe of the flip and would loathe going back to a slab phone.

Taylorsville Hemp Shop owner arrested after 3 month investigation

TL;DR:

Your taxpayer dollars have gone towards a 3 month investigation into a legally operating hemp shop. With the assistance of the NC alcohol law enforcement agency, your local PD has harassed and arrested a taxpaying shop owner for trivial amounts of dry weight hemp based THC concentrations going over the legal .3% limit. In this 'investigation', officers bought product multiple times, legally from the shop and proceeded to conduct lengthy lab tests to find one that suited their requirements for an arrest to be made.

We don't have enough money for education, roads, solving homelessness, our veterans, amongst many other pressing issues, but we do have money to conduct a 3 month sting operation to arrest a man for selling CBD THC products. Insanity.

Cookout Desert

How does one of the most populated suburban areas in Charlotte STILL not have a cookout within a reasonable distance? I'm being so serious right now. Indian land is building every godforsaken BS fast food restaurant or shitty fast casual to ever exist but we still don't have a cookout. I need answers.

I got my piece of history today [Nighthawk, Carowinds]

She wasnt my favorite ride but as a coaster nerd, and Carowinds being my home park, this is just way too cool to pass up.

Welp. Bravia 7 damaged in transit, need an alternative.

Hi,

I ordered an 85 inch Sony Bravia 7 (2024) through amazon, waited a week and they've just told me the TV was damaged in transit. (woohoo!) While i currently try to get my money back from amazon, I am looking for a similar or better TV that i can just go to the local best buy/costco/walmart or whatever and pickup. I've checked and I cant find and Bravia 7's or 9s that i can pickup. The only options are going to arrive in a week+. Well, I dont want to wait that long since I was really looking forward to hockey playoffs on a big screen at home. I primarily wanted a Sony for the processing and motion since I will predominantly be gaming and watching Ice hockey and perhaps the occasional movie/tv series. I've been a little put off from OLED due to the price/burn in risk and issues with specifically ice hockey (white ice causing problems with display brightness).

What is a good substitution for the Bravia 7 85 inch or Bravia 9 85 inch that i can just go to the store and pickup easily? Im willing to pay about 3k and would like an 85 inch but willing to go to the 75-84 range if its comparable pricing with better performance. Thanks!

TV Recommendations for Ice Hockey and Video Games

Hi all, after hours of searching this sub and other subreddits I am more confused than when i started ha!

Current TV: Samsung QN55Q70AAF
Viewing distance from TV: 11-12 feet
Room lighting: Mostly dark living room, no direct sunlight
Primary usage: ps5 video games 40%, ice hockey 35%, youtube, TV shows/movies streaming 25%.
Budget: under 3-4k$
misc: needs ethernet port, (any TV's doing high data transfer rates 1gb yet? We have fiber)

We also have a steel frame home and I've read we might need special mounting hardware if we decide to put this up on the wall.

I would love to have a near 100in TV that ticks all the boxes that has a higher refresh rate for video games (would it be worth going over 120hz for future proof?) but still performs very well for live ice hockey streaming and can provide that elevated cinema experience when we decide to watch the occasional movie or TV series. Anything that leans toward my needs or am I asking for the impossible? I'm totally open to suggestions outside of my parameters or if you think I don't need a certain feature/size.

Thank you in advance!!

Round 3 Schedule Prediction

Get your tin foil hats on, we're going speculating.

Scenario 1: Canadiens beat Buffalo in 5 (on 14th, 1 rest day)
G1- sat 16th @ home (prime time)
G2- mon 18th @ home
G3- wed 20th @ away
G4- fri 22nd @ away
G5- sun 24th @ home (memorial day weekend, primetime)
G6- tue 26th @ away
G7- thu 28th @ home
_______________________________________________________________________
Reasoning S1:
-min 1 gap day
-saturday prime time slot would be filled
-2 games on memorial day weekend for maximized viewership (fri/sun)

Scenario 2: Canadiens beat Buffalo in 6 (on 16th, 1 rest day)
G1- mon 18th @ home
G2- wed 20th @ home
G3- fri 22nd @ away
G4- sun 24th @ away (memorial day weekend, primetime)
G5- tue 26th @ home
G6- thur 28th @ away
G7- sat 30st @ home (prime time)

_______________________________________________________________________
Reasoning S2:
-Game 1 choices are between mon or tuesday if a 2 day gap was on the table. NHL would most likely have game 1 start monday to line up the holiday weekend for 2 games again.
-Game 7 would fall on a saturday if needed, prime slot for a potentially major game.

Scenario 3: Game 7 (on 18th, 1 rest day)

G1- wed 20th @ home
G2- fri 22nd @ home
G3- sun 24th @ away (memorial day weekend, primetime)
G4- tue 26th @ away
G5- thur 28th @ home
G6- sat 30st @ away (prime time)
G7- mon 1st @ home

_______________________________________________________________________
Reasoning S3:
-NHL would likely not want the hurricanes resting more, 1 day gap before g1 is almost certain
-holiday weekend is optimized for fri/sun
-G6 would host a prime time away game (hasnt been many if at all saturday games in the playoffs for the Canadiens.

I could be totally wrong and the NHL could do something else but I figured we discuss on our double sweep time-off. What do y'all think?
