As a long time mealkit enthusiast (and affected customer lol), I went down a little rabbit hole trying to understand what might have gone wrong behind the scenes for this week’s comical meal kit fulfillment mishaps (for ex. take a quick scroll through r/blueapron and r/marleyspoon for customers’ POV!!)

After some back and forth with my ChatGPT reading up on FreshRealm — the fulfillment company behind both meal kits — which filed for bankruptcy in April 2026, I was surprised by the #s which are now AI-summarized in the attached graphic for yall, my fellow meal kitters.

I was personally surprised to learn the most that:

• Blue Apron and Walmart made up 90% of FreshRealm’s revenue!! But Blue Apron’s fulfillment should be fully transitioned out of FreshRealm by Aug 31, 2026 to Misfit’s (huge FYI for Blue Apron’s customers). MS’s transition plans are not currently public.

• 1000+ workers laid off! I can only imagine the morale of the remaining and affected workers :(.

my first time trying green chef’s “oven bake” recipe which comes with aluminum pans to minimize clean up. I only had to chop up the cauliflowers. Prep work took 8 min mainly consists of oiling and seasoning the veggie pan and then the chicken cutlet with pre-mixed spices! Easy prep honestly.

Then the 450F oven heat did the rest of the work for 20-25 min.

Definitely a dish that makes me go “this tastes like ‘health’ 😂” in a good way and would def be more of a 5/5 if I had time to let the spices marinade the chicken for some hours.

wish green chef offers more oven bake, aluminum pans style recipes like this each week!

By now we know MS’s bankrupt fulfillment partner has been effing up everyone’s orders. Boxes turning up in comical / sabotaged state. Something internally must be going on.

I’m personally still trying to reach a rep. Tried calling (but no agents available) during weekday hours while waiting for a response for my email since beginning of this week, and tried chatbot that opened a formal ticket. No way to reach a real person live.

Only to receive an automatic response the next morning to my chat ticket with an automatic $12 credit implying that if I don’t respond, it assumes that my issue is resolved….???

Looks like some customers have turned to social media trying to reach for a response and these comments are subsequently magically deleted or hidden.

What I got vs what I ordered. I must have someone else’s order.

All my email notifications about my ingredients being substituted and meat missing… doesn’t matter anymore because I’ve got completely different recipes.

Best of all, I avoided ordering lettuce because of Cyclospora and yet some lettuce still made it here.

I’ve been a long time MS fan. I’m beyond shocked at this operational mishap by its fulfillment center that it’s trying to ditch.

Anyone else?!

For the first time, I will be asking for a refund.

So last week, some of you have been flagging that your Marley Spoon is missing as many as 10(!!) ingredients from your box.

Alas for my box that’s supposed to arrive today, I was wondering why my package is stuck in “label created”. I toggled through the app to report the issue; turns out MS already sent me an email this morning noting my box will be delayed by 24 hours. Okay, except that the app still misleadingly says “your box is on the way” for today.

Here’s some market research as the possible “why”:

• Feb. 2024: Marley Spoon outsourced all U.S. fulfillment to FreshRealm after selling its fulfillment centers.

• Late 2025: Customer complaints around delivery delays, missing items, and quality increased.

• Apr. 2026: FreshRealm filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy but continues operating.

• Current: FreshRealm remains Marley Spoon’s U.S. fulfillment partner while Marley Spoon evaluates alternatives. (From public data / lack of new announcements)

Sigh, TBD on whether my box will get here in 24 hours!

Pesto Chicken & Roasted Potatoes: 5/5 - I added small roasted peppers (not part of recipe)

Overall love the variety of veggies accompanying the meat for each dish (should be baseline given Green Chef is an organic premium tier compared to its competitors). Less prep work than Marley Spoon that I keep in rotation but still requires chopping whole veggies and taking leaves off of the kale for example, but things like garlic comes peeled and ready for dicing.

My partner and I do feel kind of hungry still after eating our serving…!

A good decade ago I read a manga with art style like the recently released OP Heroines anime… but for the life of me I cannot recall the title.
I just remember the manga was pretty mature in themes… one of the characters was pretty well dressed? had some BL undertones I think

I’ve been looking through a directory of Josei manga for the past hour and nothing is ringing a belt yet 😭

Would you happen to recognize a Josei manga with this art style right away?

Smoky Spanish Pork Pan Roast: 5/5 as far as meal kit flavors go! High effort prep work of chopping veggies, making the marinade paste (consists mainly of smoked paprika), and oiling pans and veggies for a 450F oven roast. I added the green beans into the roast for some extra veggies. This is a recipe I wouldn’t have defaulted to on my own if MS has not introduced me to it.

Martha’s Best Lemon Dijon Chicken: 4/5 also high effort and involves both oven and the pan. I liked that the chicken breasts came already pounded thin for faster cooking. can be pretty bland if it weren’t for the sauce - no time to marinade the chicken itself so the Dijon sauce is a great touch for flavors. quinoa in rice is leftover from the third recipe (below).

Caprese Gluten Free Grain Bowl: 3/5 very healthy - great flavors of shallots and sun dried tomatoes to add some flavor depths. also lots of prep work with chopping especially with frying shallots thereafter. It’s just not my definition of a weeknight dinner portion. went great with some scrambled eggs the next morning.

In 2024 Marley Spoon sold its warehouse and fulfillment operations to FreshRealm, which also does BlueApron and Dinnerly. The quality and reliability of their deliveries immediately tanked.

This past April FreshRealm filed for bankruptcy.

The link above includes some interesting information including that the MarleySpoon business is 1/6th that of Blue Apron.

Anyway it goes without saying that the MarleySpoon supply chain is in turmoil right now.
