A research project is looking for participants in Europe who has experience in Dzogchen practice

Meditators! - We are recruiting long-term practitioners for a scientific research study under the guidance of Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche. If you are a meditator who practices regularly in the Chak-Dzog (Mahamudra-Dzogchen) traditions for several years & are willing to provide confidential reporting about your practice in the context of the research, we invite you to participate in an online survey &/or a week-long retreat in the Lyon region of France this September.

*If you have completed long-term retreat, we have a few scholarships to cover travel & accommodation - contact the researchers for more information

This project aims to better understand the subjective experience during meditative practice, exploring processes related to consciousness, sense of self, and emotions within this contemplative context.

To this end, the team combines questionnaires with scientific experiments, including measures of brain electrical activity (EEG) and bodily physiological activity, recorded during meditation sessions.

This study is aimed at experienced practitioners who have received direct introduction to the Nature of Mind from a qualified teacher in the Mahāmudrā / Dzogchen tradition, and who engage regularly in these teachings.

Precious moments during the recent gathering of the Tibetan Bön community: Khenchen Tenpa Yungdrung Rinpoche spent some time with the children, teaching them meditation and showing them some books in the library. This way, the young generation can gain some knowledge of the tradition.

Congratulations on the successful completion of the first retreat session at "Sangngak Yungdrung Düdul Ling," the Bon center in Russia founded by the venerable Khenpo Rinpoche Geshe Rinchen Tenzin.

The retreat program lasts four years. Throughout these years, aside from a 15-day break each in summer and winter, the students remain in continuous residence at the monastery for the rest of the year. Each day they engage in four sessions of practice, 1.5 hours each, along with four sessions of generosity/offering practice, half an hour each — totaling 8 hours — plus 2 hours of textual instruction and 1 hour of Tibetan-language reading practice in the evening. In total, they undertake at least 11 hours of practice and meditation each day.

In addition, they are also carrying out scheduled practices including the preliminary practices (ngöndro) of 900,000 repetitions, 100 days of tsa-lung tummo (channel, wind, and inner-heat) practice, and 49 days of dark-retreat practice, among others.

These touching photos were taken yesterday at Kremsmünster Abbey, where Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche took a moment to pay his respects to the monk and teacher, venerable Brother David Steindl-Rast.

Happy 100th birthday to the venerable Brother David Steindl-Rast, who, through his genuine openness and profound equanimity, brings people of all faiths closer to their true nature.

What would be an ideal TDS% and extraction yield % for moka pot brewing?

It's easy to find information about ideal and recommended values to aim for in espresso and pourover brewing, but hard to find much information regarding moka pots. Does anyone have any information on what to aim for?

Does anyone keep track of cofee total dissolved solids and extraction yield for their moka brews? What’s an ideal TDS and EY for moka brewing?

Here is how I calculate it by hand, no need for a refractometer, you just need digital scales.

Dose: Weight of the coffee that gets loaded into the funnel.

Dry: Weigh the dry ground coffee + dry filter + moka pot

Water: Total water you add to the boiler chamber

Wet: Moka pot weight with wet coffee grounds after the brew is finished and the beverage is poured to a cup.

Bev(erage): This is how much liquid that ended up in your cup.

Dry - (Wet + Bev - water) = coffee total dissolved solids

TDS % = coffee total dissolved solids/bev*100

EY %= solid/dose*100

I am amazed every day at what great coffee mokas can make. Look at the color of that!

It’s sweet almost like added sugar, tastes almost like hibiscus tea.

coffee is grandoro kilambe (their dolcevita is also very good), Giannini 6 cup, 28 grams ground at 20 clicks, Comandante Tigershark, 170 ml 90 C water in, 115 ml out, brewed with an aeropress filter.

Geshe Denma, who recently celebrated his naturalization oath ceremony, and officially became a citizen of the United States, will teach on zoom Trekcho and Thögal instructions from Shardza Rinpoche's Heartdrops of Dharmakaya, and Dru Gyalwai Chag Tri. Starting May 23, 2026

The Heart Drops of Kuntu Zangpo is a profound Dzögchen teaching that elucidates the nature of the mind. Composed by Shardza Rinpoche, one of the esteemed Dzögchen masters of Yungdrung Bön, this text presents a particularly potent and direct method of Dzögchen. It comprises four distinct sections: Preliminary Practices, Trekchö, Thögal, and the Bardo.

Geshe Denma begins our continued study and practice of Heart Drops of Kuntu Zangpo in a 4-part one-day series starting May 23, 2026. Registration is open, and all are welcome. Language translation in Spanish and Russian is confirmed.

Part 1 https://ligminchatexas.org/event/heart-drops-of-kuntu-zangpo-dharmakaya-part-1/ Part 2 https://ligminchatexas.org/event/heart-drops-of-kuntu-zangpo-dharmakaya-part-2/ Part 3 https://ligminchatexas.org/event/heart-drops-of-kuntu-zangpo-dharmakaya-part-3/ Part 4 https://ligminchatexas.org/event/heart-drops-of-kuntu-zangpo-dharmakaya-part-4/

The Dru Gyalwai Chag Tri is the collection of the text composed by Dru Gyalwa Yungdrung, the great 13th century master who lived from 1242-1290. Dru Gyalwa Yungdrung is the 57th lineage holder of the Oral Transmission of the Zhang Zhung Nyan Gyü and is also known as Dru Gyalwa.

He composed a practice manual Chag Tri at the Yeru Wensakha monastery. The propagation of the unified Oral Transmission of Zhang Zhung continued at Yeru Wensakha monastery for another hundred years to Rinchen Lodro during which time the monastery was destroyed by a flood in 1386.

Dzogchen, also known as the “great perfection” or “great completion,” is considered the path of self-liberation and the highest form of teaching and practice in the Bon Buddhist tradition. For practitioners with the capacity it offers the potential for liberation during a single lifetime and within a single body. Until the late 20th century these ancient teachings were kept secret and offered to very few students of any generation. For all these reasons, attending the teachings can be seen as a precious opportunity for students of Tibetan Bön Buddhism.

The Experiential Transmission of Zhang Zhung (Zhang Zhung Nyam Gyu), is a cycle of dzogchen teachings from the Zhang Zhung Nyan Gyud lineage, one of the three main dzogchen lineages of the Bön Buddhist tradition.

Geshe Denma will teach a 3 Part Weekend Retreat Series from Dru Gyalwa Yungdrung. Part 1 June 6-7, 2026 Introducing Trekchö through the Six Symbols Part 2 October 24-25, 2026 Introducing Thögal through the Four Symbols Part 3 December 12-13, 2026 Introducing the Natural State of Mind through Sounds, Rays, and Lights. See our website for registration and details. Language translation and recordings will be available.

Part I: SHINE

April 24–26, 2026 (3 days)

What is Shamatha?

Shine (Tib. zhi gnas ) means "resting in peace." However, it is not simply a quiet or relaxation technique. In the context of Dzogchen, Shine is a method of stabilizing attention that leads to the direct recognition of the spacious, open nature of awareness.

Shamatha serves as the foundation for the practice of Trekchö, which in turn is necessary to ultimately practice Thögal .

Without stable presence:

- the mind remains distracted,

- the experience becomes emotional instead of clear,

- it is difficult to perform the final Thogal practice.

Part II: In-Depth Practice Days (optional)

April 27–28, 2026

These two days are intended for those who wish to continue and deepen the process begun in the Shamatha section. Participation is voluntary, but recommended for all those planning to participate in the Thögal section.

The nature of these days is different from the first three:

- less lectures, more practice,

- longer and more stable sessions,

- greater silence,

- individual questions for teachers,

- clarification of the experience.

This is the moment when:

- the distraction begins to reveal itself more subtly,

- fatigue or resistance appears,

- practice stability is verified in real time.

This is precisely why these days are so important. They allow us to move from "understanding the science" to truly grounding our experience. Shamatha is a precise method leading to a direct experience of the nature of mind.

For participants planning to participate in Thögal, they constitute a natural preparatory stage.

Part III: THÖGAL practice and the TIBETAN FESTIVAL

April 30 – May 3, 2026 (Festival on May 1–3, 2026)

The second part of the retreat is devoted to Thögalpractice —one of the most advanced Dzogchen methods in the Yungdrung Bön tradition . From May 1st to 3rd, this practice will take place alongside the festival program, maintaining a clear separation of spaces and levels of participation. We cordially invite course participants to all festival events (details coming soon).

What is Thögal?

Thögal (Tib. thod rgal , "direct leap") is a direct path to revealing the spontaneously present, luminous nature of mind. Unlike the stabilizing practice of shamatha,Thögal is the direct experience of pure manifestations of light, the ultimate nature, beyond cause and effect.

It is not a visualization technique or a form of relaxation meditation,
nor is it a practice intended for beginners.

Requires:

- stability developed in Shine,

- teacher's instructions,

  • appropriate practice conditions.

For this reason, part of Thögal is only accessible to participants of the full retreat (April 24 – May 3).
