Since I have decided to reduce my use of electronic devices over the weekends, I have been searching for a hobby that would be able to keep me occupied for several hours. The idea of paint by numbers attracted me since it looks quite relaxing and it does not matter whether or not you have any artistic talents.

The only question that comes to mind is whether paint by numbers is one of those hobbies that are capable of bringing people back or whether the majority of people tend to abandon this activity after they complete their first paint-by-numbers set.

If you have already tried paint by numbers and started practicing it regularly, why did you decide to make it your weekend activity? Did you allocate a certain amount of time each weekend for it or it became your routine automatically?

It feels like every time I think about choosing some other hobby, except sitting in front of a computer, paint by numbers comes up. Honestly, it looks pretty interesting, but I have absolutely no idea how to begin with it.

First of all, I had to do some research and it turned out that there is a huge variety of paint by numbers kits, so it is actually much harder to choose one than I thought. The most important thing for me is not to pick something too hard and stop halfway through.

If you began painting by numbers having zero experience before, what kind of kit did you choose for your first time? Would you suggest to start with something easier or go for something more difficult and challenging from the very beginning?

Update: I was collecting several choices and added Paint by Numbers Adults among them because of their kits for beginners as well as for advanced painters

It seems that recently my friend managed to complete his paint by numbers kit, and it looks much better than I have ever thought it would look. So, it gave me an idea to try a custom paint by numbers kit where you can upload your own photo.

In particular, I would like to buy a paint by numbers kit which is based on my grandparents, however, I wonder how close the final picture will resemble the initial picture. Naturally, it is not expected to be absolutely identical, however, it must still somehow remind of the original picture.

Did anyone here manage to order custom paint by numbers kit and was he/she satisfied with it? Does it look even better than you expected or did you miss something when ordering?

It was my wife and me who went on our summer vacation last year and there is one picture we took at sunset which has stuck on my phone since then. First I was thinking of getting it printed, but then I remembered about the custom paint by numbers kits which would let me use my picture.

It sounds really cool, but I am afraid if pictures from our vacations would suit for this task. There is a lot of background and many colors in our picture and therefore, I do not know if it would be difficult to paint this picture.

Has anybody had any experience in creating custom paint by numbers kit on the basis of a picture taken during vacation? How it looks – the same or different from the original?

In other words, I was going to buy a paint-by-number kit, but at the moment, I can't choose a photo. On the one hand, I have quite a good photo from a family barbecue with my grandparents; but the photo is rather blurred as it was made with a phone of old times.

Nevertheless, I am hesitating what to do: should I buy a paint-by-number kit of the photo that is more meaningful to me, or should I go for the one with better photographing.

On the other hand, if you have ordered yourself a paint-by-number kit, I want to know whether you picked a photo with the greatest meaning or with the most aesthetically appealing.

Update: When compiling a shortlist of various websites, I've added Lieblingsart to it as they are based in Germany and make custom paint-by-numbers kits from personal photos.
