Not living in halls as a first year

Hi everyone! I’m hoping to study at UoA in 2027, but I’ve been waitlisted for a hall and I’m not sure if I’ll end up getting an offer. Hypothetically, if I don’t get an offer and have to live in a flat instead, how much would this affect my social life, especially as a first year student?I’m a bit worried about missing out on the typical university experience, making friends and meeting people. For anyone who didn’t live in halls during their first year, how was your experience? Did you still find it easy to make friends, get involved in university life and have a good social life? I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences!

Mocks are next week and I’m already completely burnt out

Mocks are literally next week and I already feel so burnt out. I’ve been trying to study but I’m exhausted and I honestly don’t feel like I’m retaining anything.
The thing is, I genuinely feel like if I sit my mocks right now, I’m probably going to fail most of them. I know they’re only mocks and they’re meant to show me what I need to work on, but at the same time I’m wondering if there’s even any point in putting myself through them when I’m this burnt out.
Part of me wants to just take the time to recharge so I can actually be in a better headspace for the actual exams, but then I’m worried I’ll regret not sitting my mocks or that I’m just making excuses to avoid them.
What would you guys do? Should I push through and sit them even if I think I’ll fail, or take the time to properly recharge and focus on preparing for the actual exams?
I’m a level 3 student btw

Am I addicted?

I’ve been taking opiates almost every other day for about two months now. At first it was just occasional, but now I’ve noticed that whenever something unpleasant happens or I feel stressed, I end up taking a few to feel better.
I can still go 1–2 days without taking any, so I’m not sure if that means I’m not physically dependent yet. But I’ve also started mixing different substances, and I’ve been actively looking online for more products and people to buy from, which has me worried.
I should also mention that I used to have a problem with opiates before, then I got clean for a pretty solid amount of time. One of the biggest things is that I can barely remember much from the time when I was using before, which makes it hard to compare where I’m at now.
Does this sound like addiction, or am I heading down the same path again? Has anyone else relapsed like this after being clean? I’d really appreciate any honest advice or experience

Electives

So I’m really confused on how electives work in my first year of study ( i would be starting in 2027). It is one course from any subject I can choose to take? What electives can i take if i"m doing health science (if anyone has a list)?

Struggling to stay clean

I’m not really sure how to word this or if this is the right place to post, but I need to get it out somewhere.

I was clean for a long time. I had built a decent stretch of sobriety and for a while I really believed I was done with opioids for good. I recently relapsed, and now I’m stuck in this weird place where I don’t feel physically dependent anymore, but mentally I can’t fully let it go either.

It’s not constant or everyday use. I can go a day without it sometimes, and I tell myself that means it’s “not that bad” or that I’ve got some control over it. But the problem is I still end up going back to it. Even when I don’t really want to. It’s like the thought just sits there in the background until I eventually act on it.

What’s messing with me the most is the mental side of it. The cravings, the bargaining in my head, the “just this once” thinking. Even when things are going okay, it still shows up and takes over more than I want it to.

Another part that makes it harder is that no one around me really knows that I use(d), and no one expects that from me. So I don’t really have anyone holding me accountable, or anyone who even knows I should be held accountable. It’s just me dealing with it in my own head.

I guess I’m wondering how other people deal with this part — the obsessive thoughts and the cycle of relapse even when you’re not physically dependent anymore. How do you actually stay clean when it feels like your brain keeps pulling you back into it?

I don’t really want to keep living in this loop. I want to stop, but I’m struggling with actually making that stick.

Any advice or experiences would really help.

Bulk Poppy Seeds

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to make a poppy seed strudel and the recipe calls for 200g of poppy seeds. I’d like to double the recipe, so I need around 400g in total.

The problem is that all the supermarkets I’ve checked seem to only stock the small 40g packets, and buying 10 of those feels a bit ridiculous 😅.

Does anyone know where I could find larger bags of poppy seeds (around 400g–1kg) anywhere in the Wellington region? I’m happy to travel around Wellington, Lower Hutt, Upper Hutt and nearby areas if needed.

I was thinking places like Moore Wilson's Wellington, Bin Inn, might have them, but I’m not sure.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! 😊

Viewing application details after submission

Hi, I don’t know if this is the right place to post this. But I was wondering if there was any way to check the details I entered for my application after I had submitted it?
