BedStuy 1940s vs 2020s

My girlfriend has always admired living in historic BedStuy, so for her birthday I made her a BedStuy then and now photo book. Figured y’all might enjoy seeing some of my favorite pages.

I made about 70 of these side by sides, then put the best 47 into a book. It’s been amazing to walk through BedStuy after completing this project. So many people have lived out their hopes, dreams and lives on these streets, with much of it looking nearly identical as it did back then.

Washer Machine Only Has Hot Water

I just moved into a new apartment and the washer machine is only hooked up to hot water. I set all of the settings to cold and it’s always hot. Vast majority of my clothes are cold wash only. Is there any sort of hack or workaround? Or is the only solution to get a plumber to construct an actual cold water connection?

UPDATE: Great detective work on the gas line! The washer and dryer are stacked in a closet with only 2-3 inches of room on either side, so I can’t see behind the machines. I tried pulling them out but they didn’t budge. I’ll try running a “hot” cycle and report back! I love that there is a laundry subreddit and that y’all are coming to the rescue. Peak internet.

UPDATE 2: The “Hot” wash is Cold!!! Y’all were right, the lines were mixed! Laundry subreddit to the rescue let’s gooooo ty all!

How to build a stacking platform over a clawfoot bathtub

https://imgur.com/a/1nqYMaD

Hey there! I just moved into a new apartment that has TWO full baths, each with a clawfoot bathtub. Yet, the apartment also only has a single closet.

My aim is to turn on of the baths into a half bath / closet by constructing a stacking platform over one of the bathtubs.

The Problem: The edge on profile of the bathtub is not fully flat. The left half is flat, while the right side angles upwards. Any stacking platform would have to account for this.

Wondering if anybody has any creative ideas for a simple solution.

Thanks!

New to Cats. How to prevent him from going down these stairs?

Hey all! My gf and I just moved into a new place that is two levels. She has a cat and I take care of a dog part time. Plan is for cat to stay upstairs when the dog is here, and for the dog to stay downstairs when here. We will work on slowly integrating them with training.

Looking for easy and practical ideas on how to prevent the cat from going down these stairs. There are no doors on either end. If I put up a pet gate, he’d just jump over it. If I block the entrance with a room divider, he’d just squeeze through it. He’s a super crafty escape artist.

Thanks!

Prospect Park Volleyball Homies

Hey there! (32M) Just moved to Brooklyn and see so many great volleyball games going on at Prospect Park. Anyone need an extra player in your friend group? (I usually play intermediate level 4s) I’d love to join :)

My car all of the sudden started making a clunking sound whenever I go over speed bumps or potholes. Everything feels normal. In the video you can hear the sound twice in quick succession. It is never heard on smooth roads or very small bumps.

It would be extremely inconvenient for me to take it to the mechanic within the next few days. I’m wondering if it can be diagnosed so that I can figure out if it’s safe to postpone repairs and keep driving for about 3 days.
