Discipline or damage? Does punishment teach respect or violence? What are your thoughts?
I honestly disagree with this conclusion. A lot of us grew up tasting the belt, slipper, or even a light spanking—and we didn’t grow up to be killers or violent people. It doesn’t mean physical punishment is automatically the best way to discipline a child, but saying it makes children more likely to become violent feels like a huge generalization.
What matters is the context, frequency, severity, and overall environment a child grows up in. Many of us experienced strict discipline and still learned respect, responsibility, and self-control.
So is every form of physical discipline automatically harmful? I’m not entirely convinced. What are your thoughts?
