This has been going on for a full 15 minutes now.

So whatever the latest Chrome OS update is for my Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 714, it sure is taking a while. About 15 minutes, so far. I will definitely heed the scary warning and wait it out. Anyone have any idea what's going on here or have an ETA for how long this takes?

I don't recall what version of Chrome OS I had on this, but I use this machine everyday and generally keep it up to date so I don't think I'm behind more than one update.

Given the wait, I sure hope I'm getting some really good new chromos or maybe even Aluminum features.

Rockefeller Buttermilk Hill Mapping Oddity and Survey Marker?

It had been ages since I visited the Buttermilk Hill part of Rockefeller so I did a nice long walk yesterday to visit. It's a great hike. I highly recommend it, but Holy Hannah, bring the bug spray.

While drilling down the rabbit hole of local lore about the area, I found two weird things.

First, there's this odd rectangle in the AllTrails (actually OpenStreetMaps) map of the area, just the northeast of the hill, that seems to indicate some property or something that may not be specifically part of the park? Or maybe it's the footprint of an old building? Does anyone know about this? See the picture, the rectangle is in the upper right. I couldn't spot anything specifically while I was there, because the vegetation is very thick.

Secondly, I found a picture in the Westchester Archives site that seems to indicate that at one point there was a USGS survey marker up there. I'd love to find it if it still exists. Does anyone know if it does? https://collections.westchestergov.com/digital/collection/pcs/id/79/

Thanks to anyone who can provide more history. I love digging into the lore of this area.

Well this is a new one, I didn't even have my radar on my bike today, but it registered cars behind me anyway?

Not sure if this is an issue with the My Bike Radar Traffic plugin or with my Garmin computer or Connect, but my radar wasn't even attached to my bike at all today, yet I got some radar statistics from my ride. It (RearVue 820) has been powered off at home all day.

Has anyone else ever seen these? Did my RearVue 820 miss me that much?

EDIT: I now have a theory. Today, on the trail, there were more cyclists than usual for that time of the morning because the Cycle The Hudson Valley event was running. Could I have accidentally picked up another rider's radar signal on my Edge 850 computer? If so, shouldn't that NOT happen?

That time when the temp suddenly rose and fell40 degrees during a bike ride

Not sure what happened around 1:40 this afternoon, but my Garmin 850 suddenly thought that there was a nuclear explosion nearby or something.

Then it just as suddenly got better.

I mean it was warm but not really that warm far as far as I could tell.

Why does linking Google Home to Google TV take "up to 3 days"?

Question in the title. This seems like a trivial thing to do since GTV already has your Google userid and credentials. Why does it take 3 days?

So you've logged your food data in another app and that data doesn't sync to Fitbit....

Sadly, Garmin Connect does not send over nutrition data to Fitbit. But that didn't stop me from taking a picture of the food I did log in Garmin Connect. Gemini's pretty good at reading.

Edit: you should also be able to read recipe pages in the same way. Be sure you keep in mind how much a serving is.

Garmin Connect activity not showing up in All Sources

Garmin Connect doesn't show up under All Sources even though it's there if I select Garmin Connect. All sources appears to only be showing the Fitbit stuff.

You can tell your Google Health coach to be less chatty

https://preview.redd.it/an3tehjwv15h1.png?width=1024&format=png&auto=webp&s=5c78242fe11580ee213f53e4dcfa41e83e0a4aed

AI is new and not a lot of people know that you can give it instructions as to how it should respond. For me, this has improved the coach quite a bit.

Google really should allow you to put stuff like this in a System Prompt, like other general purpose AI's do.

It's Snapping Turtle Nesting Time in Yorktown, Somers and elsewhere

https://preview.redd.it/zgsu6qr6pj3h1.jpg?width=4080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d63f4e705df146e49d62f4717a2383199d5b1098

Leave them be, especially if they're on the grass. They're likely nesting. You'll see a lot of them in the next few weeks if you're on the Westchester Trail or anyplace else near water.

Don't put any bodily appendages near their front if you value said appendages.

The Y Que Scenes Were Hilariously Soapy and Great

Just doing a rewatch on season 3, Delta-V.

The whole Y Que adventure was superbly and hilariously done, >!from the music which was spot on and obviously derivative of overhyped 20th century music, to the Dear John message, to his bitter and messy end. This might be one of my favorite sequences in the whole series. I loved that they leaned into the whole trope with humor. Great stuff. !<

Appreciating Croton Gorge Dam before the summer dries it up

There are so many times I've visited the dam and seen it barely flowing, but two weeks ago, when i visited, it was amazing. Love this spot and all the cool trails you can take to get here.

I have both a Garmin Varia RTL 515 and the newer, supposedly better Rearvue 820. Of the two, only the Rearvue 820 has this problem when paired with my Wahoo Bolt V2.

It's an amazingly repeatable problem, happening every time I ride through this going in either direction. I see that some have reported this issue but I don't see any hard and fast solution, other than going back to the older model, which has its own issues with a balky micro USB port.

Has anyone else been able to resolve this? I'm running the latest firmware, 6.34 on the Rearvue.

I didn't see an appropriate flair for bike radar so I picked the only one that came close.
