Sargassum & Beach Erosion

Went to Whiskey Creek with the family at DVDMEJ State Park today and it was PACKED. So we walked over to the beach and were absolutely floored with:

  1. the amount of Sargassum piled up on the shore. It was at least 2 feet high and piled 4-5 feet deep on the sand. Then there was a thick patch immediately off the surf.

  2. the extent of beach erosion. Once you walked out over the dune you could take 5-6 steps then there was a sheer dropoff to get to the sand by the water. That dropoff looked to be about 4 feet.

These conditions stretched the coast as far as I could see.

Does anyone know if this is seasonal? My wife seems to think the Sargassum piles are an annual thing and we just picked the wrong time to go. Someone also said that it's not being cleaned up because it's a State Park. Any truth to that?

I don't live too far from it so I'm going to stop back and take a picture. It was easily the worst condition of any beach I've ever seen, anywhere.

Booking metrics using 3rd party links

I'm helping out a barbershop and made massive improvements to their reviews outreach, visibility and engagement. They are nearing 1,000 real reviews but the bookings metric shows 0 for the past 6 months meanwhile Square, their booking platform reports direct bookings and schedules \~100 kept appts a week.

How can we get Google to report how many of these came from GBP?

Settle a bet, are the Thule Bars correctly placed, or backwards.

Just to clarify, the front of the car is to the right.

Update: despite conflicting advice from the first 2 responses, these bars will be getting flipped so the fat part is up front.

Thank you all!

Renewing my tags and was honestly surprised that Florida is allowing vanity license plates from select out of state schools. Does anyone know how/why Auburn, Alabama and Georgia are available?

Home insurance and the unraveling of Florida communities

Good read. Stabilizing insurance markets, creating new forms of collective protection that connect finance, risk reduction and decisions about how communities live with climate risk is what I really wish we were having special legislative sessions to work out.

My taxes are a 1/3 of what I pay for homeowner's insurance (wind, flood, & property) and I get tangible quality of life value from my property taxes.

After hearing multiple horror stories I just wanted to share my experience at the Oakland Park Blvd DMV because it did not line up with the information available on the website.

TL;DR: plan for 2 hours with a scheduled appointment to renew your expired drivers license.

My appt today 4/27 was made online on 4/8 to renew my driver's license that was set to expire in a few months. Earlier dates were available but none avail at the time I wanted.

When I arrived there was a line outside to confirm an appt was made. Even though my name was printed on the clipboard, I had to produce my confirmation email to get let in, some ppl skipped a head of me while I tracked this down. I was shown to a 2nd line I to confirm my appt number (again) and get a waiting number. I was called up to the station that processed my renewal about an hour after I got in the 1st line.

The website said to be here with my passport, SSN, a W-2 & other documents. I was only required to show my current DL. I had to take a new photo and a new eye exam. After paying $48 by card I had to wait another 20 minutes to pick up my new drivers license. I was not allowed to retake the photo. 🙃
