Why do many thobes use polyester instead of cotton, linen, or wool?

I'm trying to understand why polyester is so commonly used for thobes and similar garments.

I've also been reading up on breathable fabrics. From what I've found, linen is often considered the most breathable and coolest-feeling option because of its loose weave and moisture-wicking properties, while lightweight cotton is also a strong choice for comfort and airflow. Polyester can be made to dry quickly and resist wrinkles, but it usually isn't as breathable unless it's a specialized performance fabric. Based on that research, linen is generally the top recommendation for maximum breathability, with lightweight cotton as a close second for everyday wear.

So I'm curious:

Why is polyester so widely preferred for thobes?

Why don't more people choose cotton, linen, or wool instead?

How do people keep polyester thobes clean and prevent odour, especially in hot climates?

What fabrics are actually best for summer wear if the goal is breathability, comfort, and freshness?

Are there any advantages to polyester that make it better than more breathable materials?

I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who wears thobes regularly or knows the practical reasons behind the fabric choices.

Does flash-heating fruit juice change how your body processes its sugar?

I recently bought a not-from-concentrate lychee juice that's flash heated (similar to pasteurisation of milk) to extend its shelf life, with no added sugar or preservatives. It contains about 10g of naturally occurring sugar per 100ml.

My question is does the flash-heating process change how the body processes the sugar? Will it raise blood sugar levels in the same way as a juice made from concentrate with added sugar, assuming both have the same amount of sugar per 100ml?

I'm interested in the science behind whether flash heating affects the glycaemic response, or whether the sugar behaves the same regardless of the processing method.

Applying Directly After Identifying a Client Behind a Recruiter Posting?

I came across a jobpost by a recruiter, based on the description, I suspect I know the end client.

What should I do?

I was thinking of emailing HR, or asking someone working there if they are actually hiring or about to hire, and/or ask for a referral.

Would it be a good idea to pass the recruiter?

My experience with them has been in many cases they will reject you if you don't meet 100% of the criteria but when you actually speak to the technical staff it is not the case as they gauge better what you know.

Has anyone been in a similar situation and managed to take advantage of this knowledge

Are relaxed tapered jeans good for skinny guys who want more room without going full baggy?

I’m trying to find trousers/jeans that are somewhat baggy without looking oversized. I don’t like wearing jean because they feel too tight around the thighs, bum and private area, especially when sitting down. I mainly wear slim fit.

I have come across relaxed taper fit so I wanted to know if it looks good on someone skinny as I read it fitted better on bulkier or fat people.

Summary

  • Does relaxed taper fit look too baggy on skinny people?

  • What jeans or trousers do you recommend so that it doesn’t feel or look tight around the thighs?

  • Any specific brands/fits you’d recommend?

I’m really struggling to wake up for Fajr to pray in the masjid.

The main issue is that I’m a very deep sleeper. I’ll set alarms, but I’ll either:

  • Turn them off in my sleep (sometimes sleepwalking)
  • Or I’m half-aware, but the urge to turn it off and go back to sleep feels almost impossible to resist

It is inconsistent, I struggle waking up when I'm tired and slept late, other times even if I’m well-rested, I still don’t wake up, or I wake up and have to fight myself to pray at the masjid which I lose most of the time. But there have also been times where I was tired and still woke up properly on the first alarm with no issue so I don’t understand what the difference is between when I was able to wake up and when I am not. It is of course summer now so in the Northern Hemisphere Isha is very late and Fajr very early so that doesn't help, however, I was struggling when Fajr was 5:30.

I do pray Fajr, but not always at the same time, and my goal is to pray it in the masjid (it’s only 5 minutes away). Honestly, I feel quite ashamed that I’m not making it there consistently.

I’m looking for practical advice from people who’ve dealt with this specifically from someone who didn’t use to pray Fajr in the masjid and how you were able to build that habit.

How do you wake up if you’re a deep sleeper?

Any alarm setups or systems that actually work?

Habits or routines that made the biggest difference?

Anything that helped you push past that “just go back to sleep” feeling?

I’d really appreciate anything that’s worked long-term, not just short bursts of motivation.

Quick life summary, I had eczema as a baby, got "cured", then got it again as an adult a few times. It would appear randomly, be itchy, and dissappear kind of randomly. The reason I say random is because my environment including food didn't change much but it went away.

I know sugar or a lot of sweets is a trigger for me, but because the symptoms only appear a few days later it is very difficult to find the exact trigger. A high amount of sugar intake can result in itchiness in an area with a skin patch. I'm not a doctor, but I feel like a pathway is made whereby if you eat certain triggers and an eczema patch appears or is affected even worse by the trigger, your body will learn to send reactions there lol, if your eczema heals, it will reappear in the same place.

Coming to 2 weeks ago, I ate a lot of sweets and my eczema got triggered, the back of knees and around my elbows are starting to expand. I had already small patches around my elbows and the back of my knees, I got this after eating a bunch of ice creams in Egypt. I belief this is the case because it was the only thing I did thay was different to the previous day and it appeared 3 days after returning to the UK.

I have cured my eczema once completely in ramadan by fasting, I have noticed the itchiness goes away after 2 days, it sometimes gets better and sometimes becomes manageable.

Not having learned from my experience in Egypt, I ate another ice cream in the UK and I could see something that looks like yellow pus coming on my arms and the side of things and the back of my knees.

I used to use steroid cream and a lot of people recommend it but from my experience it is just a plaster and it made it worse for me. It doesn't deal with the actual issue.

Finally my question, since this issue is affecting a lot of people around the world, how come there aren't studies around this to find actual causes and cures? Some people report to be triggered by food, others by air, others alergies and for myself it seems to be a mixture of things that might of may not trigger me. I am personally ready to conduct experiments on myself and eat things that could trigger my eczema and see what happens in my body even if that means I need to deal with a more severe case of eczema. I have found that fasting is a really effective way to decrease the itchiness.

My experience with doctors hasn't been the best unfortunately, there only hand of steroid cream. Not a single one of them has discussed alregies, triggers, foods and environment and none of them have tried to look for a solution. My 2nd question, where are the doctors that will go the extra step to find a solution, those that want to and can investigate further? Not those that will prescribe steroids and call it a day. I remember one time I used one of these creams and it gave me an allergic reaction, I told the doctor this and she tried to prescribe me a stronger one. I thought are you taking the piss.

Im working on deploying Gatus application on ECS with launch type EC2, Gatus is an app health dashboard which tests connection to different domains and paths.

As part of increasing security posture of the image/dockerfile, I changed the runtime to non root user, for context my runtime is using scratch so no distro. When I deployed my image locally or on ECS, all the icmps are failing. After a bit of research it seems like the non root user can not use NET\_RAW capabilities and it is because /etc/passwd is missing, not sure.

AI suggested using NET\_RAW in the task definition which I did but for some reason that doesn't work either.

It seems like the best solution seems to be to use alpine at runtime but then I will be using a larger image which I'm trying to avoid.

What are my options, and is there a way to still use scratch?

\`\`\`

FROM golang:alpine AS builder

RUN apk --update add ca-certificates

WORKDIR /app

COPY go.mod go.sum ./

RUN go mod tidy

COPY . .

\# Build optimized binary

RUN CGO\_ENABLED=0 GOOS=linux \\

go build -a -installsuffix cgo \\

\-trimpath -ldflags="-s -w" \\

\-o gatus .

FROM scratch AS runtime

\# NETRAW added to task definition

USER 1001:1001

WORKDIR /app

COPY --from=builder /app/gatus /app/

COPY --from=builder /app/config.yaml /app/config/config.yaml

COPY --from=builder /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt

EXPOSE 8080

ENTRYPOINT \["./gatus"\]
