fresh air system in new house bringing in that weird house smell 🤢
You know that really specific smell people have after they've been outside for hours?
Not BAD exactly. Just... outside 😂
That is basically what my new house smells like whenever the fresh air system kicks on. It runs around 20 min/hour and I swear I can tell almost immediately when its pulling outdoor air in.
I fucking hate it lol.
From what I've been reading, turning the fresh air system off completely probably isn't the smartest move in a newer tight house. So now I'm wondering if the actual issue is the intake filtration rather than the ventilation itself.
went down a rabbit hole looking at how other systems handle incoming air and saw cozeware freshflow, which is doing a window mounted fresh air system with filtered outdoor intake.
Totally different setup from my whole house system. I'm not comparing them directly. It just made me realize I have no idea how well MY incoming air is being filtered before it gets dumped into the house.
Is upgrading the intake filter normally enough to deal with that outdoorsy smell, or is this just something you live with when you're actively pulling outside air in?
