We only picked him up yesterday and we’re already in love ❤️
That’s it, that’s the post. I didn’t take a pic or say hi, my social anxiety was too much lmao.
Joey was diagnosed with an incurable cancer and passed a few days later 2 weeks ago… we are incomplete without him. I would be honored if any of you would draw him ❤️
Please return it… I started a mini garden in remembrance of my dog that passed away less than 2 weeks ago. I just wanted to have a place to honor his life. Thank you.
Had to say goodbye to my darling boy on Thursday; he came into our lives in February 2024 and passed at just 7 years old. He was the sweetest, most curious, and most affectionate creature I’ve ever met. I’m so grateful for the memories we have with him and know he’s having fun chasing rats in the great beyond. I know I’ll feel better someday, but I am broken without him here. Please give your pets an extra hug for us tonight.
My PSA to all you frenchie parents out there: if your pet is displaying any hind leg weakness that doesn’t get better with bed rest, please ask for a chest xray. We’ve been treating what we thought were IVDD symptoms with 2 different vets since December when it was actually likely due to the tumor that had been growing undetected in his heart called a chemodectoma. They only found it as it started pushing on his lungs causing respiratory dysfunction, and it was too late by that point.
I recommend to read this post to learn more about chemodectomas; it helped me understand more about what was happening but also had a really positive outcome as their pet lived another 2.5 years after diagnosis.
It’s been a hard couple of days. I’m not even sure why I’m posting this but here we go. I know some people have not liked the recent sad posts, so please skip if you’re looking for something cheerful.
On Sunday night, our 7.5 year old started displaying slightly labored breathing. We thought he was stressed from our new Roomba so gave him the night to chill out and cuddle with us with hopes that he’d be fine in the morning.
Monday morning didn’t show any improvements so we took him to a local ER vet since our regular vet was booked up. He was relaxed and calm at the ER despite the slightly elevated breathing levels, and the ER did chest x-rays as they assumed mild pneumonia. The x-ray instead showed enlarged heart, and a further sonogram showed a very small anoint of fluid around the heart. We had an upcoming appt scheduled with the cardiologist anyways due to a new discovery of heart murmur 2 weeks ago, and the ER said it was fine to wait as long as his breathing didn’t get worse.
We got an uber to go home, and the uber didn’t have AC. Of course, my boy started panting pretty hard and I ended the ride after only a few blocks to try to calm him down. Thankfully we were only 2 blocks away from his regular vet, so I ran there with him in my arms to get him into some AC. Bless them, they took him into the back and put him on oxygen immediately to stabilize him so that I could get him home.. they didn’t even charge me which I was gobsmacked by, but we did opt to buy a portable oxygen kit in case it happened again.
We finally made it home, and he was clearly stressed out so took a nap until my husband came home. After he woke up, he started displaying heavier breathing which turned into full out panting and we opted to go to a further animal hospital where his upcoming specialist appts were scheduled for anyways. He ended up having to be on oxygen the entire way, and the nurses whisked him to the back as soon as we arrived to stabilize him. After additional imaging, they confirmed his lungs now showed signs of pneumonia but they would do more tests including seeing the cardiologist and doing an echocardiogram.
He stayed overnight in the oxygen , was given meds, and it seemed like that would take care of everything. Today the news has just gotten worst throughout the day. They discovered a tumor at the base of his heart that is restricting blood flow from one side of his heart and airflow to one lung. They suspect due to the size that it’s been growing for months undetected. While his breathing has improved since last night while in the tank, they don’t feel comfortable removing the oxygen. We can’t even really discuss next steps until he’s able to breathe on his own.
We’re getting an update tomorrow and hopefully meeting with the oncologist but I just feel so lost right now. I don’t know what’s going to happen, and don’t know what I’ll do if he doesn’t make it home. All I want in the world is for him to be better, and I will do whatever I humanly and financially can to achieve that so long as it doesn’t prolong his suffering.
If anyone has had a similar situation, would love to hear any happy endings. Hug your pups tight tonight for us ❤️
I used to be able to get scamorza bianca all the time in the 90s and early 2000s. I’ve gone to a few places in the past few years including Whole Foods, fairway, Eataly, Murray’s, etc, and the mongers always look at me like I have 2 heads when I ask if they sell the non-smoked version. Anyone know where I can find?? I miss it dearly!
