Help my future self

What set of 8-10 exercises would help the most (doing them now) to keep me living independently when I’m 80 or 90? My goal is actually 100. I’m 53F if it makes a difference. I’ve been in/out of gyms for about 15 years, but mostly out. I feel like balance, grip strength, joint stability, thigh circumference, and the continued ability to get up off the floor are all important.

Technique question

I’ve been in and out of gyms for the last 17 years. I started up again a few months ago and I’m noticing a trend I don’t understand. A lot of people seem to be doing very fast reps with partial range of motion. A million years ago, I was taught to do slow controlled reps with full range of motion. It works for me and I’m old and probably not going to change. But why are so many people now doing reps so fast with such a small range of motion? Is it a valid technique? Is it just because they are uneducated? Please educate me.

Before and almost done

Before is at 245 but my highest was 261. Current is 164. I’m 5’7.5”. Before I was XXL shirts and size 20 pants. Currently these are size 8 (!!) stretchy jeans and a small (whaaaaaatt?) top. These two pics are about 4 years apart. I lost the first half on keto and the second half on Zep eating without restricting specific groups of foods. When I started on Zep, at 2.5 I actually gained weight and at 5 I just held steady. I didn’t really lose anything until I got to 7.5. If you’re worried this drug isn’t helping you, just stick with it a few months and see what happens. I’d like to lose another 10-15 lbs, but if I stay in the low 160’s for the rest of my life I’m perfectly fine with that. I lift weights plus a little cardio 3 times a week now and I’m gaining muscle. So more fat will leave. I just want to be able to be strong and live independently into my 80’s and 90’s. That’s my goal when I lift. Also, I wanna get jacked not skinny.

So if you’re worried, just stick with it. I focus on protein and vegetables. I eat somewhere around 100g of protein most days with the help of a protein shake most mornings. I don’t count anything anymore. I’ve counted calories, points, carbs, exercise calories, TDE, etc etc. Ive counted shit my entire life and I’m just not doing it anymore. I counted calories early in my zep journey to make sure i was eating enough calories and protein. I stopped after a few months. When I’m hungry, I eat. Now I can feel full and so I stop. Thats all. I don’t prep. I eat out sometimes. I cook a lot and we eat the same things as before. I just eat a lot less. So hang in there. Believe. And just keep going. The time is going to pass anyway, you may as well use it to become healthier.

I need help rehabbing a linen dress

I’ve had this dress hanging in my closet for 25 years and I probably haven’t worn it in 24. I took it to the dry cleaner a decade or so ago and they said they couldn’t remove the stains. They tried but were unable. I have zero idea what the spots are (butt and neckline) and there are pit stains. Overall, the dress is sort of yellowish. The dress itself is a linen/rayon blend and the liner is acetate, whatever that means. It says dry clean only, but they didn’t get it clean. It’s sentimental, but there’s no point in keeping it if I can’t get it clean. So I’m either going to ruin it by washing it or throw it away anyway. I haven’t tried washing it myself at all yet. Suggestions? Machine wash on gentle? Spa day first or wait and see after a wash? Water temp? I assume I should line dry.

My typical is Tide C&G powder plus Febu on warm with citric acid in the rinse plus 2 extra rinses. I also have Oxiclean and Shout in the aerosol can. Thank you to you experts. My family really loves their actually clean clothes now. And when I’m in public and I smell odor rebloom, I’m tempted to take the person aside and tell them there’s help on Reddit. I haven’t yet, but it’s not outside the realm.

How much am I pressing?

I’m 53F working out for a few years.

There are a couple different kinds of leg press machines. I’m recently back into the gym after a surgery. I want to use the big boy leg press where you’re almost sitting on the floor and you press a weighted plate/bar up (45 deg leg press). At my gym, the empty bar weighs 167 lbs. I’ve been using the machine where I sit basically in a chair and push my body up while the foot plate remains still (horizontal leg press). I load the machine with 60 lbs. Am I pushing only 60 lbs and I’ll kill myself trying the big boy machine? Or am I pushing my body weight plus 60 lbs? How much am I pressing? Thanks for any clarification.

Pan as art

We cook a lot and have decided to make the switch to carbon steel and cast iron. I’m no spring chicken anymore and cast iron is so heavy, it’s tough for me to clean. We have an incredible Finex cast iron 12” pan that I love, but man it’s a beast at 8lbs. So I’m looking for an excellent quality carbon steel 12” skillet that’s also beautiful. I have a thing for functional art, but primarily it has to be functional. I love Copper State Forge carbon steel pans because they look like workhorses but they’re also beautiful. Bonus is supporting a small company. Can anyone suggest other companies for me to look at? Smithey has beautiful carbon steel but the handles don’t have a hole to hang. That’s important too. Any suggestions?

Need Febu, I know they’re tweaking things

Anyone have the current scoop on Febu booster? About a month ago, u/febu_max said it would be ready on their website in about a month. I’m on the cusp of running out and am hoping to order some soon. This time, I’ll get more than one. This stuff is great!

Febu OBA’s?

I’m struggling with a pair of black linen pants. I can’t decide if they’re fading or if it’s the OBA’s in my Tide powder that I’ve always ignored. Or if it has something to do with putting them in the dryer on low temp. I use Febu in almost every load. Ok, every load. (We have pets and we work outside a lot. We have sweat and dirt and god knows what else. I need clean clothes.) The black linen just looks a little faded even tho the last 2 times I’ve used Tide liquid, but i did use Febu.

Typical dark color wash is warm water, long cycle, 3 rinses. Tide powder but with a recent switch to Tide liquid, Febu with DNase, citric acid in the rinse. Dryer on low temp to barely damp. Remove immediately and hang up.

Does Febu have enough (any?) OBA’s to cause these pants to look faded?

A pic would probably help, but I’ve recently had foot surgery and I can’t make myself stand up again right now.

NOT using a walker

ETA Doc never mentioned a walker. He said crutches. I can bear weight on heels fine and really just need crutches for balance. It’s only my mother who thinks I need a walker. If I needed one for healing, or if my doc said I needed one, I would absolutely use it. I don’t really give two shits about what anyone in public thinks. They’re too busy thinking about themselves to notice me anyway. But someone did kindly point out that I’m an asshole for assuming that it’s only old people who need walkers. I apologize for that. Many folks our age and younger legit need walkers briefly to daily. I’m just exceedingly grateful I’m not one of them. And fwiw, I’m following my doctor’s orders to a T.

I had orthopedic surgery a few days ago on both feet. At the same time. Both feet. Anyway, I’m being dramatic. It’s some bone cuts and screws. Not a huge deal. I’m using crutches and I can put weight on my heels. But my mom keeps trying to convince me that using a walker would be so much easier. I’m not old enough for a freaking walker! I don’t care if it would be easier, I’m not doing it. In fact, I’m about to progress from crutches to cane. I think by this time next week, I’ll just be in the boots without any walking aid. I’m not using the damned walker. You can’t make me.

My dog ate an AirTag. Made her vomit and this came up.

ETA I am not seeking medical advice. She is at the vet right now. I’m just seeking an ID on the square metal thing.

My dog ate an AirTag. The second pic is of the bits I found. Third pic are the components and the arrows point to the pieces I found. Vet took an xray, saw metal, and made her vomit. He found the square thing in the first pic. I have no idea where that came from but she’s a puppy and constantly chewing stuff up. The square thing is about 3mm x 6mm. Any idea what it is? The airtag is the only electronic that she’s chewed that I know about. Yeah, still havent found the battery. I’m aware of the grave danger of button batteries.

Scotland

I’m just in the beginning stages of planning a trip from the US to Scotland in the next couple of years. My husband is a pretty good golfer and I enjoy riding horses. Is there a specific part of the country where I could do low key trail riding through the green hills while he plays at amazing golf courses? Any specific city or course recommendation would be great too.

I’m 62 hours in and about halfway there. This one needs lots of second and third coats. Slow going but I still think it’s pretty. I do think the worst of the dark greens is behind me now though.
