September 1, 2001 Cleveland @ Chicago White Sox-an oddity

So as I am going through all of my old stadium bought scorecards, I ran across this situation.

Bill Pulsipher was brought into the game to start the 8th inning, to face HoF’er Jim Thome. Thome reaches on an error by Josè Valentin and Pulsipher is promptly pulled. I know this isn’t the strangest thing ever, but I believe it is the only time I have scored a game where a pitcher faved a batter but had nothing on his final line.

Alan Embree also faced only one batter, who was Jim Thome in the 6th, but he walked Big Jim before getting pulled. It looks a bit odd in the final scoring for Pulsipher, but this does reinforce for me how much I like the 3 batter rule for relievers.

Also, does anyone else use dashes rather than zeroes for the pitching statistics?

Pocket Schedules!

So I found these buried in my dresser drawer today. Fun that both are playoff years, but I found the prices interesting as well. Top is 2005, bottom is 2008.

Premier Lower Box $39 for the Yanks, etc. in 2005 and $50 in 2008. Only $11, but is also 25% higher. Winning a title is a good thing eh?

Does anything else look intriguing?

Found this 1993 scorecard/magazine today in my basement

I attended Games 1 and 2 of the 1993 ALCS and had honestly forgotten that I purchased this magazine. Really fun to see, though remembering that I witnessed two losses in a series that the Sox were unable to win is still sad to this day. Fun piece of history though either way.

Bobblehead display-in progress to an extent

As one can likely tell, I am a White Sox fan first and foremost. But I do enjoy pretty much any bobblehead to some extent. I have so many and had not displayed many, so I decided to see what scrap wood I had in the garage. Came up with this simple shelving unit and painted it black to match best with the Sox guys. Need to work on the backdrop, but one thing at a time.

Also put it on small platforms rather than a full shelf, to have room in case any were taller than usual. As it turns out, that wasn’t necessary, but I did throw down a slice of astroturf just for fun.

Bottom 3 shelves all Sox, while the top is a smattering of other teams. It is fun to have some of them out to see, though I have at least as many still in their boxes so I guess another unit should be planned.

See any that you don’t recognize?

And now for something different-The Herb Score Scorebook

I forgot I had this in the basement. Dated 1997, it teaches one how to score the way that Herb Score himself used to (RIP). First pic is the cover, second is a list of tips, third is a facsimile of Len Barker’s perfect game scorecard, and the fourth pic shows the actual blanks to be used.

As much as I love this book, I don’t want to sully it by scoring any games. I may make some copies of the pages however as I like the setup. Does anyone else have one of these?

Zion Mags-labels

Got my first order of Zion 35 pt magpros and was messing around with who to put in them and how to create labels. I do like the cases, though keeping the cards in sleeves would be nice.

I think the look is ok for the labels, but I need to do some tweaking. Larger font, and larger box on the right to be able to put a longer card # all on one line. Any other suggestions/comments?

The inevitable question will be “why put a 1981 Fleer Willie McCovey into any kind of a holder?” I am working on his entire run and this card certainly isn’t worth getting slabbed, but this way it will fit into the run with the same type of look.

UP 4014 Big Boy West Chicago, IL 6-3-2026

She is beautiful and massive. Also stopped here at this spot in 2019, when I was able to get video of the arrival. No such luck this time, but got close enough today to get some decent pics while it was parked for the day.

SF Giants at Milwaukee Brewers 6-1-2026

Top of the 4th in a 7-2 game. Had to wrap around and change Jake Bauers since he batted twice in the 2nd. Always looks a bit sloppy but it is what it is. Go Brew Crew!

Who has the KP game?

Dated 2003, I found it at an estate sale I believe about 10 years ago in perfect condition. Just finished playing a game, but unfortunately I lost.

Does anyone else around here have this?

I put it under Trivia since it seemed the closest flair to a board game

Let’s see if y’all can help me a second time to figure out SGA’s

A year or so ago a couple of you were able to track down when a beach towel I have was given away by the Sox. Now I have found these two caps that I completely forgot about.

The first is a camo cap sponsored by GM, the second a gray adjustable by The Private Bank. The gray one I have found on ebay, but no info at all as to when it was a giveaway. The camo cap is a complete mystery at this juncture.

My best guesses were around 2000, but neither appears in 2000 or 2001 promotional giveaways. If anyone remembers these or is a better sleuth than I, the help would be appreciated.

Go Sox!

Chicago Cubs at Chicago White Sox 5-17-2026

Before and after. Nice clean scorebook, then the chaos of extra innings. So, still working on how to score the “ghost runner” that makes sense to me. Today is only the second time I have scored extras, so I went with an asterisk top left to signify who was on, then made a note of what happened (PCA was thrown out on the base paths and Meidroth scored).

Still trying to decide if that is the best option or not, as the one new rule that has been implemented that I don’t like at all is the ghost runner. Anyway, what a fantastic win for the Sox after trailing 3-0 before coming to the plate, having their closer give up a 3 run lead in the 9th, and then trailing going into the bottom of the tenth.

Finished the scoring at home, and now looking for any suggestions as to how to score extras.

Does anyone recognize this glass?

News and columns was the closest I could get for flair. Hopefully this is ok for this sub-if not please delete. Didn’t know where else to ask, as my uncle recently found this glass and gave it to me. I am not expecting it to be worth millions, but just trying to figure out who made it and when. There are no markings of any kind for a manufacturer, and searches of OSU glasses pop up seemingly thousands of possibilities, but haven’t found this one.

A safe assumption is 1976 of course, but would simply like to find out more information if anyone here has any.

Thank you and Go Bucks!

Btw, the paper inside is simply to make it easier to see the logos.

Original post was taken down because I forgot about the “…” rule. Dumb on my part.

How about all time managerial wins? Tony LaRussa managed for 30+ years and was still close to 1000 wins behind Connie Mack.

Joe McCarthy with a win % over .600 is a big one also.

There are certainly many extenuating circumstances when it comes to managing, but when only 13 guys have even won 2000 and Connie is at 3700, that is as dominant as Cy Young with 511 and Walter Johnson basically 100 behind him in second.
