Two weeks notice, employer refuses to pay.
I quit this week and gave my two weeks notice and my manager decided to walk me out due to privacy reasons (I work in a bank and going to another financial institution)
My last day, given that I gave two weeks notice should have been the last week of August, but she decided to report it on HR saying my last date of employment was on the date I handed her my letter. Because of this, my group insurance was cancelled, and I won’t be paid for that two weeks notice that I’ve handed in. If i wasn’t gonna go to another FI, I would have worked that two weeks, but because I am going to a competitor, she decided to just walk me out due to privacy reasons.
This information was shared w me last Friday, and today she replied to my email, essentially saying this
: Following your resignation, your employment was reviewed with HR, and your last day is set for August 11, 2026. The Bank evaluates potential conflicts of interest based on specific facts. Had you disclosed plans to join a competitor when asked, the Bank could have assessed whether you should continue working during your notice.
When asked where will I be going, I simply told her that I’m going to another financial institution but I prefer to keep my employer and new role confidential until I get settled in. Also, the fact that she walked me out, took my keys and my laptop, made it seem that she no longer needed me. I don’t owe them that information do I?
I’m hoping someone here can shed some light on my situation and hoping someone can point me at the right direction.
If HR decided not to fix this, what would be my options? If I hire an employment lawyer, do I have a strong case? I am also aware that because it is a bank and is federally regulated, that I can submit my complaint under labour code standards.
Really appreciate anyone’s input! Thank you.
