Thoughts on Russian School of Mathematics (RSM) for a rising 1st grader after school program anyone?

Hi nyc parents,

Just wanted to get a feel for how you felt about sending your kid to Russian School of Mathematics. We are in park slope and I have a rising 1st grader who's reading, writing, and math are at a below average level according to her K report card. I'm not too concerned about it as she is also multilingual and I don't want her to be overtly engaged in academics yet. But, I do realize the limitation in us as parents on how much and how well i can teach her the basics of english and math overall to assist (time wise but also methodology wise).

I feel like I'd be better at it once she knows how to read, write and do some basic math haha..hope that makes sense. But at the same time, i'm not sure if i can rely solely on the school to teach her all this effectively if she's below average since I know her peers are probably already reading for example. Math is a separate issue..but I wanted to inquire about Russian School of Mathematics only because I'd rather have her learn something for after school that would be useful for her school learning in math if she's gonna fill up her time after school anyway since we both work.

So i'm not looking for some rigorous academic learning at this age. Just want this to assist her learning in math in a positive way to build a good foundation in math and also provide her with a different way of thinking than just rigid in and out learning when it comes to math. And..i just need an after school program.

With all this said, would you recommend this for a first grader? Also any personal experiences with RSM at whichever location in the city as an after school program would also be great.

Russian School of Mathematics for a 1st grader anyone?

Hi parents of park slope,

Should i get the joolz aer 2 footboard for my 5.5 year old who's right at the weight limit for international travel this summer in korea?

Hi,

So i got a new travel stroller as our yoyo of 5 years broke down and i needed a new one for summer in korea for almost 3 months. I'll be solo parenting for most of it. I got the Joolz aer 2. I also got a wildride carrier for my 2 year old since she is always asking to be held.

My question is...do i need the footboard for my first who's almost at the weight limit? She hovers between 48-49 lbs not quite 50 yet. She is always wanting to sit and complains and i just don't want to have meltdowns when i'm alone for 2 months.

Trying to get it secondhand but not easy. It's just a bit pricey for something that i won't be using for a long time. What would you do?

Anyone try the Seat to Sleep-Travel Nest Inflatable Cushion work for your 5 year old (and possibly 2)?

Hi,

Seeking solutions for solo travel with a 5.5 year old and a 2 year old (will be about 28 months by then). Got targeted with this Seat to Sleep Travel nest inflatable cushion and it looks cozy enough?

I was going to just bring a carrier for my second and have her sleep on me on my 14 hr flight to asia...i've done it multiple times on shorter domestic flights but never a long haul flight. The age says 3 and above but she is pretty tall for her age. Any experiences with a younger one and overall would you at least bring one for the 5 year old? Is it worth it and you continue to use it on other flights? I feel like i constantly buy new gear every year and never use them again on flights.

Hi,

My daughter is 26 months and she's already 31 lbs. I owned a gooseket with my first which is from like 3 years or so ago. I'll be traveling solo with two kids soon in june and will be by myself for 2 months (husband joining after 2 months and going back together) so will have to solo parent for the airport and the entire stay in asia. Drop offs and pick ups by myself with a 5.5 year old and 2 year old.

I'll be of course using the stroller everywhere we go while we are there, but the airport and all those moments where she doesn't want to use the stroller and wants to be held instead is sort of scaring me haha Before daddy would do the heavy lifting and even then it is not easy. I just need it to assist me in the absence of daddy so i can carry it around everywhere.

I like the design of the black houndstooth toddler hip carrier for Wildride. But the new GOoseket feels like it would be a bit more practical with that belt bag that can be attached with it. I do have various other belt bags already though. I also have the miamily carryon for the airport and will be getting a second one for the trip so both can ride.

So this will be just for the extra moments where she refuses to walk or ride. Which will be often considering her stage in life as a two year old. Any experiences? I want to use this for awhile and not just for this trip until the weight limit.
