My manager said I might be getting paid more than expected for my role. Anyone here in project delivery who can weigh in?

My manager said I’m getting paid more than expected for my role. Anyone here in project delivery who can weigh in?

About me: 30M, currently working as an IT Project Delivery Lead in the banking/insurance industry, earning 85K monthly. Overall 4 years of experience in project delivery.

1 year na ako sa current employer ko, and recently nagkaroon ako ng touchpoint with my manager. One of the topics we discussed was my salary. She mentioned na I’m earning way more than expected for my role — overpaid daw ako. Hindi ko siya masyadong inisip at the time, pero ngayon napapaisip na rin ako…overpaid nga ba ako? Haha.

For context, I handle end-to-end delivery of projects — from requirements gathering hanggang stabilization period. I may not be doing the hands-on work, pero I make sure that everything and everyone is enabled and is aligned on what’s happening. I handle timeline forecasting and constant alignment with the business on anything related to the project. And hindi lang ito for a single initiative, but multiple ones.

What I don’t handle is budgeting and some other responsibilities typically owned by an IT Project Manager. More on day-to-day operations and on-the-ground execution ako — I’m responsible for delivery, while the Project Manager remains accountable.

Guys, tinatanggal niyo ba hat/cap niyo while eating?

Kanina, I was with someone and kumain kami sa Ikinari Steak sa One Ayala. I was wearing my cap, then bigla niya sinabi na dapat daw tanggalin ko habang kumakain kasi it’s considered rude to wear a cap when dining in. Honestly, ngayon ko lang narinig yun, and sanay naman ako na nakacap kahit saan without anyone calling it out.

Medyo na-bother lang ako sa totoo lang, bothered sa the fact na I’ve been doing it my whole life hahaha.

Update: Thanks everyone!! To clarify, I do remove my cap when entering an establishment pero binabalik ko rin talaga hahaha nakasanayan lang talaga ever since. I remember my mom calling me out about it pero it came to a point na, she stopped. Tumataas na rin kasi hairline ko kaya I used my cap to avoid it being seen.

How do your company, manager, or teammates handle or react to your absence?

Usapang company culture naman tayo when it comes to sick leaves, emergency leaves, and vacation leaves. When you’re on sick leave, since it’s unpredictable, how do your manager, and teammates handle it?

My previous employers were mostly BPO and shared services, and kapag may nag-SL bigla, may feedback agad from leads and teammates. Tatawagan ka pa kahit alam na naka-SL or VL ka, just for an inquiry — which is disrespectful para sa akin haha. Especially sa first job ko as a service desk agent/call center, required agad ang med cert kahit 1 day lang, and ang daming reasoning na kailangan mong i-provide— parang utang na loob mo pa na nag-SL or even VL ka.

Ngayon, nasa in-house company ako and I handle PH projects. 3 days na rin akong naka-SL, and I haven’t heard from my manager or even my teammates (except sa mga tea, of course 🤣). I just told my manager that my SL would extend by one day, and he just said, ‘Okay, pagaling ka.’ — that’s it.

The weird thing is, I feel guilty na I’m on SL for 3 days in a row na. Kasi kaya ko naman mag-work — titiisin ko nga lang yung flu and body aches ko lol. Ewan ko ba, looks like I need to unlearn yung mga nakaugalian ko sa first job ko.

Kayo ba, kumusta sa inyo?

May marerecommend ba kayong insurance company(ies) to work for dito sa bansa? If you work at one, kumusta experience ninyo — salary progression, environment, and benefits?

I’m talking about being corporate employee ahh not an agent/FA.

I’m currently working at one, and so far it’s been good. The organization is flat and the environment is relaxed. There are busy periods at times, but not to the extent that it leads to burnout.

I also worked at ☀️ —- no comment lol.

Thank you!
