Cicerone Carpathians / alternative

I'm coming to Romania to do some hiking. I thought I could order the Cicerone guidebook before I left, but delivery times to my country are more than 3 weeks! Is there a book store in Bucharest that might stock it? Would someone recommend an alternative? I also can't seem to find any decent maps to buy - is there a good store in Bucharest that has them?

Finally: the compulsory "bear question". How much should I be worried? Do people wild camp?

How can I cool a building?

Ok, my building seems to be made of heat storage bricks...I have a/c in one room, and fans in others. It's fine during the day when the a/c is on. The issue is late evening when it's actually cooler outside. The inside seems to be warmed by the actual bricks radiating heat back inside. Do do I:

a) accept it, keep all windows closed and turn on the a/c at night

b) open everything, suffer, it'll be cooler in the morning

c) something else

Rental market

A building on my street that had 3 family apartments has been bought by a company. Now it's 20 "rooms". I loooked up the company and it's a sort of crowd sourced investment company based in Barcelona (i can't name or link it because Reddit just deletes the post). The company has loads of employees (who need paying), and they suggest returns of 8-11% for the "investors". Then they take their fees. What's the result? Overly priced rental market full of tourists.

How are tourist apartments still getting permits?

I thought that Alicante was no longer allowing permits for tourist apartments, especially by room only.

Yet there are new ones being converted? Have I missed something?

Do you really need an app to get a subscription....?

Have a Garmin Inreach for 10 years. Haven't used it in the last few years because my life has been a bit boring. Now I'm about to go hiking again, I want to reactiviate my subscription, and it seems you can only do this with an app....which you need a smartphone for. What the hell is wrong with buying something on a website?! Is there really no other way to do it'

No WiFi robot?

I'm looking at robots for my 60m2 apartment. It's mostly real wood and tile floor, no pets. Pretty straightforward layout.

But...I don't have WiFi at home (I just use my phone). I need the robot to clean when I am out, so it needs to be able to be set as a timer. I do not care about apps - I just want it to vacuum and mop every day. I'm looking at either Xiaomi X10 pro or some kind of Dreame.

Anyone got any thoughts on this?

Reference letters at application stage

Hi everyone. I'm currently applying for a job - through a portal that seems to be very America (the school offers IB and AP subjects). I've never worked in an American school before. The application portal won't let me go any further because I need to include 3 letters of recommendation as an attachment. I've literally never had a letter of recommendation before, never mind 3. So before I do a mad scramble to try and get them. Is this a normal American thing? Do they not just contact the reference to ask for this sort of information? In the last 10 years I've only worked in 2 schools, so not even sure who number 3 can be.....

Hallo Leute,
