Keeping it Green is just lovely.

Just purchased some house plants from them, and they were so incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and insanely kid-friendly. Can't recommend enough, and their new (ish) location is so much better. If you're in the market for a monstera or ficus etc, definitely check them out!

Here’s what’s next for Helena’s Mini Malfunction Junction Roundabout

HELENA — A proposed roundabout at one of Helena’s busiest intersections could soon change the way drivers get through ‘Mini Malfunction Junction’.

As roundabouts continue to be a hot topic in the community, here is a project update.

“We put in for a grant for Safe Streets for All for the Mini Malfunction roundabout and the Custer and Henderson roundabout,” David Knoepke, the City of Helena transportation systems director, said.

The city will not set a construction timeline until it learns whether it received the around $8 million grant. They should have that answer by the end of the year.

Changing Mini Malfunction Junction into a roundabout has been in the works for a while. A 2012 study identified a roundabout as the best option for the five-way intersection, then in 2014, a long-range transportation plan also recommended a roundabout for the intersection. Again, the city’s 2021 five-point intersection study found Mini Malfunction Junction should be turned into a roundabout.

“Studies have shown that coming into roundabouts slows people down,” Knoepke added.

That will improve traffic flow and safety for drivers and pedestrians.

“In the roundabout case, you are only needing to look one way because traffic is only coming from one direction,” Knoepke said. “You are only having to cross one lane of traffic before you get to the splitter island, and then you look to make sure there is no traffic coming.”

Additionally, some people are curious how the roundabout would impact street sweeper and snow plow operations.

“Operations really don’t change. We would start at the center, just like we work at the center line for plowing. We plow from the center to the edge with the roundabout,” Knoepke said.

So why a roundabout? Well, they require less maintenance than signalized intersections, and they keep traffic flowing more smoothly.

“Roundabouts are an efficient way to move all modes of transportation and I think if built that we would have that we would have a public education campaign to help folks understand,” Knoepke said.

Fabulous lunch at Dear Potato

Fed my kids two scrambled cheesy egg piroshki for less than the price of a Happy Meal, and they enjoyed playing with the toys while the big people chatted.

Shout out to Shea for creating such a colorful, kid friendly environment with affordable options that aren't fast food garbage!

In case you missed it: Notification About Rossiter Preliminary Environmental Testing Update (Another one [DJ Khaled])

"Dear Helena Public Schools Staff and Families,

We are sharing another important update regarding recent environmental testing at Rossiter to continue keeping our HPS community informed.

This morning, August 11, the Montana Department of Environmental Quality (MT DEQ) notified the district that preliminary testing detected per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) at one interior faucet inside the building. We want to be clear about what this initial detection means. This screening only indicates a detection at that single faucet—it does not mean PFAS are in Rossiter’s well. To know for certain, MT DEQ is conducting follow-up testing directly at the well source. We want to assure you that we are taking this matter very seriously and we will have direction before school starts.

For background, PFAS are man-made chemicals found in many common household products, including non-stick cookware, food packaging, and water-resistant fabrics. If you would like to read more, you can visit the USGS PFAS Information Page or review state guidance on the MT DEQ PFAS Overview.

We understand that receiving an update like this raises serious questions, particularly following a similar notice shared yesterday regarding Jim Darcy and in having shared that there was no concern, at that time, for our other school sites. As of now, Warren Elementary School, our other community school, has been cleared. Please know that our team is working closely with state health officials, and we will share the results from Jim Darcy and Rossiter and, if necessary, which of our action and contingency plans to proceed with as soon as we receive them.

Again, we want to assure you that we are taking this matter very seriously. The health, safety, and peace of mind of our students, staff, and families remain our highest priority. We are committed to keeping you fully informed every step of the way as we receive more details and guidance from MT DEQ.

For specifics on district operations, you may reach out directly to the HPS Facilities Department. For additional information regarding PFAS, state requirements, or general health resources, please refer to the Montana Department of Environmental Quality.

Thank you,

Helena Public Schools

In case you missed it: Notification About Jim Darcy Preliminary Environmental Testing Update

"Dear Helena Public Schools Staff and Families,

We are sharing an important update regarding recent environmental testing at Jim Darcy so that all of our community is kept informed.

On July 21st, 2026, the Montana Department of Environmental Quality (MT DEQ) notified the district that per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) were detected in the water tested at one of the inside faucets within the school. It is important to note that this test was for detection only. This does not confirm there are PFAS in either of the two wells at Jim Darcy; thus, further testing is required on the wells themselves before any definitive determination can be made.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, PFAS are a group of synthetic chemicals used in a wide variety of common applications, from the linings of fast-food boxes and non-stick cookware to fire-fighting foams and other purposes.

We want to reassure our district community that at this moment, there is no cause for concern at our other school sites. The District is currently awaiting the official confirmation testing results to determine, if necessary, which of our action and contingency plans to proceed with for Jim Darcy. The HPS Facilities Department team has been working closely with MT DEQ officials, and we will share updates as soon as they are returned.

We want to assure you that we are taking this matter very seriously.

Thank you,

Why is this pervert being allowed to run unopposed for this position??

An extremely reliable source shared with me that Reg was allowed to retire early after being caught with a phone containing many videos and photos of the bodies of minor students on school property, which confirmed years of rumors from female students in his care. He's now running for Superindependent of schools for Lewis and Clark County, unopposed, with endorsements.

What the fuck? Is this state addicted to hiring sex pests?

Those who have followed my brief journey for a swamp martini...

...will be pleased (and I am sure relieved) to hear that I did find one at the Sacagawea Inn in Three Forks 🍸

I was the first one who'd asked for one, but they straw tested it and all agreed that it is phenomenal.

Lol my dentist is booked out a year.

I've got dentist anxiety but as much as I'd like to put it off, I really need a cleaning before then. Any recommendations?

Would really love to see this happen year round. If we can tolerate the heat, we can tolerate cold too right?

Some of y'all's sons need to be raised better.

Today a teenager walking alone was being creeped on by an old man at the art walk, and looked to some young men for assistance as she felt unsafe and they were nearby.

They responded by laughing and then AGGRESSIVELY BARKING AT HER UNTIL SHE RAN AWAY.

If you've got sons, please have a conversation with them about what kind of men they want to be. Raising daughters in a world where older men see her as prey and younger men would throw her to the wolves as a bit isn't awesome.
