Outta the Cloud

I wanted to get my stuff out of the cloud

Over the course of two weeks I finished backing up all of my photos. Then I went in and unsynced everything from the cloud, deleted everything but my phone backup from the cloud, and unsubscribed from the 200GB cloud plan I was paying for monthly. I had to manually stop apps from backing up to the cloud. I also had to stop the phone syncs. But it's all done and I am out of the cloud.

[NE] Not Allowed to Unenroll from Benefit

I am paying for Short Term Disability and Long Term Disability insurance. I enrolled in 2025. I wanted to unenroll during my company's open enrollment this year. I message the HR rep who was our point of contact asking how to make changes.

I was told those were "automatic" benefits and changes could not be made to them.

I do need to obtain a copy of the policy I signed [missing from my HR portal] but I did locate an email from late 2025 stating these were optional benefits. I also located the summary of changes to our benefit plan that was sent out prior to open enrollment and it does not state anything about these benefits being required.

My father used to work in payroll and benefits (not for my company) and said he's only heard of automatic enrollments when the company is paying 100%. I did confirm I am still being deducted on my paystub.

Once I verify the the termination terms on the documentation, what are my next steps? I wasn't allowed to unenroll so I feel like I'm being robbed.

Good Liquor Store Employee

There was an employee at an old family-owned liquor store that eventually got sold out who was a great guy. I went in almost every night for a year or two and then stopped going in because I was working on cutting back my drinking.

When I went in the next time, he greeted by name and didn't ask any strange questions. When I volunteered that I'd taken a break from drinking, he congratulated me and then said something I'll never forget.

"Store owner said that if we ever don't see someone for awhile not to make a big deal out of it because you never know their circumstances. Sometimes when they come back, they don't ever buy alcohol again. Sometimes they do. Whatever reason they took a break, we're glad they're back if they're glad to be back."

It just made me think about assumptions and also what a great heart that store owner has to be like "I'd rather lose the revenue because my customer got sober".

hello? anyone?

this was in response to an article that said:

>"pay raises are getting smaller. that could be a good thing for workers. slower wage growth could help bring down prices and ultimately mean less sting for the average worker"

you can also swap "Big Music" for white supremacy/capitalism

Big Music specifically referring to Universal, Sony and Warner who own 70% of the world's music catalogue
