Towing capacity
Hey ya’ll.
This winter, I’m building a yolk to mount to my 88 VT1100C that will allow for towing. The question I have is what’s the upper limit for weight that she can safely and effectively tow? What’s the absolute max she can pull? I can’t find anything in the FSM about towing, probably since Honda never thought that 38 years later, some redneck would want to tow a trailer with a Shadow.

Thanks!
Front signal move
Looking to relocate the front signals from the handlebar to the fork, beside the headlight bucket on my 88VT1100C.
I know the forks are 41mm, but looking for a source for mounting hardware to keep the existing ears to make it look as stock as possible.
Thoughts?
Old fillings
Hey ya’ll… I’ve got a strange question. Do fillings “go bad”? I’d not been to the dentist except for emergencies while my kids were growing up. There wasn’t time/money for me to have anything done… then for YEARS, I didn’t have dental insurance (or any insurance for that matter). In the intervening years, I’ve lost a couple of teeth because of this or that (primarily failed root canals). I’m missing back two on the top left and bicuspid on the upper left. I’ve asked the dental office I’ve been going to for a couple of years now (haven’t seen the same dentist twice) for a removable partial denture (not sure what it’s honest name is) but they keep saying I need to have all my upper fillings that I had done back in the 80’s redone first saying they’ve “gone bad” and the appliance “won’t be a good fit”. They are unable/unwilling to explain why I need thousands of dollars of work to be done when all I want is to fix the holes in my smile. Sounds like bullshit snake oil that they’re trying to sell. Can someone explain in every day English why I suddenly need to redo fillings that have been just fine for nigh on 40 years?
Engine temp light flicker
1988 VT1100C, pulled out of mothballs a few months back. Had other issues, fixed and back on the road. Today as I was riding home from work, four stoplights before I got home, temp light came on… but went back off when I burped the throttle. Two stoplights later, it came on and stayed on. Bike doesn’t particularly smell hot, and I can’t detect any antifreeze smells. Fluids were all checked about two months ago. I’ve not seen any antifreeze after she’s sat. <?> thermostat <?> thermostatic switch? Once she cools off completely, overnight… I’ll warm her up a little to see if I’m burning fluid somewhere. Bluetooth advice
Looking for advice really. Looking for a good and inexpensive aftermarket bluetooth addition to my helmets. Due to the massive size of my dome (5XL is snug), helmet options are limited and none come with pre-installed bluetooth. I have a Castle X CX935 modular and Highway 21 9mm half helmet. Pics attached for reference.
Edit: I’m looking for recommendations for bluetooth speaker pucks to install inside the helmets. I ride mostly solo and outside of charity rides, I’ve ridden in an organized group less than a dozen times in my 20 years of riding. I do have AirPod Pros. However the pods still spontaneously pop out randomly as I’m doing this or that. Therefore; riding with them in is not an option as I fear they’ll pop out and go bouncy-bouncy down the road.
88 VT1100C that I’m bringing out of mothball and getting back on the road.
Things are running just fine while stationary… and I’ve gone around the block a few times and tootled around in an adjoining parking lot and all seems well… except the front brakes. They’re seizing (slowly) and causing me to slow down (like brakes are supposed to) when I’m not applying front brake. Eventually, they’ll get so tight that the front wheel is locked and I have to pop the bleed valve to release the pressure. The fluid that’s come out is amber, almost the same color as tree sap (see photo). No foul odors.
I’m fixin to bleed/drain/swap the brake fluid.
- could this issue be cause by old/dirty brake fluid?
- do I need to disassemble/rebuild the caliper?
- anything else I should do to the front brakes?
I’m pretty handy with a toolbox and have been in/out of this bike since I purchased it back in 2010.
Edit: added photos of pistons and caliper innerds…
