Will I damage my UK 2020 64kwh Kona battery by rapid charging only until I get a home charger in a year?

It's unlikely I'll get one installed until ~march-june next year. I just got it and bought at 96% battery health which I'd of course like to conserve, but it seems like most of my charging will be at 50-70kwh (as the car allows). Is that a problem if I'm only going to 75-85% max?

Picking up my 2020 Kona next week, any more apps I've missed in my crawling?

Also, I dunno what people see in plugshare? It seems to be an inferior subset of both zapmap and electroverse

No home charger for me until probably next year although will be charging on a family members solar at least twice a month so hopefully won't need too much public charging anyway

Are there any EV dealers in the midlands you can go and see the cars?

I came across car360 but not being able to see the cars is basically the opposite of what we're looking for right now, want to be able to sit in them and fold the seats down and see physically how much space is in the boot etc.

I have a good idea of what I'm looking for but my mum is in super early stage for replacing her car and has a lot of physical requirements for using it with dogs+fitting crates etc that are very hard to judge on paper. We really wanted to go somewhere that would carry a lot of EVs and see a variety rather than picking one model at a time to go and drive 40 minutes and see what it's like but it seems like that isn't a market yet?

Is it worth moving to EV if my budget is only 8k?

I've got a fiesta (2010) worth maybe 4kish (lower mileage and fair service history, freshly MOTed), but has several minor niggles (aircon is broken, a few minor age related advisories creeping in). Faced with probably pouring £1k+ into it next year on top of typical running costs, I was considering trading it in for something more modern and looking at swapping to an EV, but I wouldn't have a big budget if I'm buying outright so looking at a Zoe/leaf/Corsa type for 7-8k. The market at the minute on autotrader at least suggests that budget is 95% Zoes with 230 mile range (maybe 160 real?)

My concern is that it feels like things are changing so quickly that putting that money into an older EV now is basically the same as setting fire to it because they'll be worth nothing at all in 3 years with their low range. From what I've seen the market changes dramatically around 12-13k with the extra range, bells and whistles and such and I'm worried cars under that threshold will lose value even faster than my petrol, and I'll be stuck with it for a decade struggling with a gradually deteriorating battery.

I do around 100-150 miles a week generally and default to trains whenever possible going further afield, although most of my miles are on A road (50-60mph), although I have been known to drive to some event venues where the parking is just a field 60-70 miles away so would be entirely reliant on finding a charger on the way home and extending the trip another 45+ mins while the car charged, which I realise probably isn't a big deal once you've done it but feels like it could be right now

I have access to a nearby charger via family who won't charge me through summer (solar) and could add my own home charging in the future as well so that isn't a concern (beyond potential cable crime from my not great area?)

Someone tell me if I'm being silly and it's always good to get the buy in costs of switching, or I really should just wait a couple years and see how pricing changes, wait for those high range cars to trickle down to a lower price point (and save more money)

I tried drilling into my wall for the first time and it went terribly

First of all if you are here for snippy comments know I absolutely am not remotely in the mood and continuing with your day is a better use of your time

I have nobody in my life to help with this sort of thing. I am (planning I guess) to hang a 10kg mirror, it's the first time I've ever drilled because I rented a lot and then I just used stick ones but the mirror is heavy and expensive so I thought it was time to buckle up and get it done. I did all the research and bought a Bosch combi drill, measured up the wall where I would need the plug, bought some matching rawlplugs and screws rated 25kg in brick from b+q

I believe I set the drill to hammer setting correctly for masonry and used a masonry bit (started smaller and then tried to do the larger one) but as you can probably see from the picture I ended up with a silly shaped hole, the plug still doesnt fit all the way in and I'm afraid I've ruined the wall where I need it so I won't be able to put it up in the right place at all

Desperately seeking kindness and advice on what to do from here because I'm extremely upset/frustrated/wishing my dad was alive to teach me wtf to do

Best coastline for a walk and fish and chips accessible by train from Coventry area?

Living in the midlands and not favouring a beach style holiday I suddenly realised I haven't seen the sea in over 7 years.....

My old goto would be Great Yarmouth having lived in Cambridgeshire and family always went crabbing for a day at the seaside but that's really a trek and a half even if I drove, and I really don't fancy the drive as I so rarely drive more than ~50 miles anymore and the car Aircon is fucked at the moment.

I want a good long walk ideally on seawall and/or pebbley beaches (I could easily do 2+ hours each way) and a fresh fish and chips to sort me out but I'm struggling to find a resource that takes into account train lines and such taking into account the realities of train travel (3 changes each way feels unrealistic for a day trip for example). I'm also happy to put it off a bit more and go in September if crowds are likely to be an issue as we are now entering summer holidays

Clearing out the fridge

Beetroot salad, red onion, carrot sticks, chickpea, coriander and red onion salad(?) lentil chips, caramelized red onion hummus, soft cheese and pickled red cabbage

NGL the only thing I made myself was the chickpea salad and that was leftovers, great little snacking plate for just pulling the last of random things that accumulated in the fridge/cupboard

Fitted in a final hot meal before the heatwave truly arrived

Followed by two pints of water because apparently I am already dehydrated despite sipping water all day yesterday

Why's it introducing random kanji I don't know if it doesn't want me to use them 🤣

I haven't even finished the hiragana path so I would have absolutely zero context as to why this is invalid but the other is valid

The new pizza crumpets were so gross I forgot to take a picture, but I had to rectify it and make my own real crumpet pizzas

Another 'what second hand EV should I buy?' - moving from a 2010 Fiesta

Sorry if this post is repetitive and boring but I have searched the sub and it really feels like the advice is changing/new options are becoming available very regularly and I wanted to make my own post.

I'm considering electric as my second ever car, and thinking this summer might be the time as I'm getting to the point where I either start pouring money into my fiesta or moving on, and electric is looking like a good market in terms of amount of car for money (unlike when I bought my fiesta, LOL)

It will be 2/7th shared by a close family member (I don't need advice on that part, we have a good functional relationship and able to handle the potential money conflicts etc) who lives 5 min drive away, at that address is also already an EV charger and solar panels, so home charging setup costs are not an immediate factor.

current car is a 2010 fiesta, and I've never driven anything bigger in the 4 years I've driven, so for my confidence not looking to jump size dramatically.

We do have hard requirement of it comfortably completing a 150 mile round trip once a week including the winter months, but other journeys are expected to be 40 mile or fewer round trips on any typical week

also needs to be a hatchback so a couple of dogs can be secured in the boot in a crate occasionally

The budget is 10k, assuming I can trade mine in for 3k+ (likely as online valuation hit 4k) but a little less is always preferable.

considering a 2022-4 nissan leaf, or maybe a renault zoe (but mixed feedback on that one) but I really am not a car person so I'm sure there's other options to consider! When we have a few options both of us will go and see a few and test drive if possible as well

Summary:

  • budget up to £10k
  • -hatchback with reasonable boot space (3 or 5 door is fine if the boot space is fine)
  • Probably 200+ mile range to allow for 150 mile round trips comfortably
  • not HUGELY bigger than a fiesta
  • bells and whistles like climate control, parking cameras/sensors are very much desired

I still have a long way to go but I just unclasped my Fitbit from the strap using my nail! I have always had to use teeth or implements for fiddly buttons like that!!!

u/bucketofardvarks — 3 months ago

1ish weeks (with some false starts). Every time I look at them there's dirt under again lol

Any tips other than replacing biting time with scraping under nails constantly? I am washing my hands with a nail brush as well but they seem to just attract dirt (this is about as clean as they get).

I'm using bitter polish atm and have some nail rings coming next week to wear while I game (my biggest biting time)

Is this pricepoint about right for a fresh high end machine now? (£2500 no peripherals)

Put this together on 20 minutes of research and haven't built a PC since 2020 so there's a good chance I have overlooked things/overkilled something. Knew RAM was bad (didn't really SSDs were that bad) but I was still surprised by the final total here. (I know that's just amazon)

I'm in the UK

I have a good monitor already

Wifi is non-negotiable for now, much as I would prefer a direct connection I don't have enough outlets for a power line

I would like to keep the second disc so I can keep windows on its own drive. My current PC has an actual hard drive and an ancient ssd so I would need to buy these new.

I'm also pretty tied to NVIDIA for GPU, I've just always had one and probably confirmation bias but I know several people with radeon's that have had plenty of teething problems and part deaths over the years which has put me off

Is this a sensible build - my goal is to get top end specs 1440p gaming right now and build a PC that lasts for 5-10 years (closer to 10 is good). To be honest, this is not happening until Autumn which I realise means some other part might also be 10x the price as it was, but there's also a chance the RAM situation recovers by then, right?

PS sorry if it's the wrong flair, I couldn't find a description of what each one is for exactly

Are there any older adult discords 25/30+ for women or mixed gender with active women?

I'm a woman and I just want some ladies or men who are well adjusted enough to play games with women without being creepy about it or judging the skills of all women by my gameplay

I play apex and overwatch but a variety server would be cool. I've been in a few servers that would be ideal except all the active members turn up to actually game instead of just chat in text at like 11pm because they're NA based

A little while ago I saw a few people wishing more "normal" food was posted on this sub. Well, I can't guarantee I represent the masses but this is typical stuff I have eaten in the last month or so, working from home and putting at least some effort into being healthy and trying to lose a few kilos.

If it looks like it took more effort than throwing some foods together and/or leaving it in an air fryer for 20 minutes, it was made in advance or a leftover second portion of the dinner from day before.

Hopefully that gives at least 1 person seeing this post at least 1 meal idea, haha

  1. Broccoli cheddar and kale soup

  2. Miso udon noodles

  3. Blended overnight apple cinnamon oats with stewed apple

  4. Buffalo chicken and spinach wrap

  5. Courgette ricotta "lasagne" and air fryer chips

  6. mexican turkey mince, potatoes, red cabbage and cottage cheese

  7. Overpopulated miso egg drop soup with every green thing left in my fridge

  8. Mashed chickpeas, buffalo sauce and red onion sandwich filler with salad and fried egg

  9. Chicken Caesar stuffed pitta

  10. Halloumi Caesar salad

It's happened to me a few times, I always default to scan an item, no entry

I sigh, but before actually making a new entry I search with the words and brand and it's there! I check and the nutrition matches identically, someone added it without scanning.

Can I somehow add a barcode to an existing record? I haven't seen any option
