The Cinematic direction in Halo: Campaign Evolved
Were the cutscenes in Campaign Evolved mocapped, or were they primarily animated using other means? The cinematics have a very different feel from Halo Reach and Halo 4, and not really in a good way
To me, the cinematics don't have much direction or intentional camera work behind them. A lot of shots feel like they're simply capturing the characters performing an action rather than actually directing a scene
A few things stood out to me:
the overall art direction feels much more cartoonish at times, almost reminds me of halo legends
Character movement feels unusually slow and sluggish, especially during combat. There;s almost no sense of urgency in how the characters move, even when they're being shot at. Chief has moments where he's sluggishly walking and firing while sentinels are blasting him, rather than looking like he's actively fighting something dangerous
Compare these to Halo Reach or Halo 4, where those games had much stronger cinematic direction. Things like character movement, camera positioning, pacing, facial expressions (really bad in this remake), and body language were all used to actually communicate what was happening and how characters were reacting to it
That's what feels missing here, I'm not talking about graphical fidelity during gameplay, animations and cinematics just don't seem cool to me at all. Am I the only one getting this impression? Or are expectations really this low?
