Why do people react so differently to these situations?

I’ve been thinking about this and I’m genuinely confused. When an international student becomes a police officer and unfortunately dies in the line of duty, everyone seems heartbroken. People call them a hero, share condolences, and show a lot of respect.

But when an international student dies in a car accident, drowns in a lake, or dies in some other tragic way, I often see comment sections full of jokes, insults, and people saying horrible things.

What confuses me is that both people came from similar backgrounds. Both were immigrants. Both left their home country to build a life here. Both had families and dreams. So why does one person’s death bring out empathy while another person’s death brings out mockery?

I’m not trying to start an argument. I’m genuinely curious how others see it.

Hey, I’m starting at Mohawk College this May at Stoney Creek campus
My first class on Monday is at 4 PM, but I heard orientation might be happening at the Fennell campus instead.
so I’m confused
Do I just go to my 4 PM class at Stoney Creek for orientation?
Or go at Fennell campus ? if yes for fennel campus what time i should be there
thanks
