I’m a white international student at Iowa state university, and I genuinely love this university, the people, and the Cyclone community.
There’s something I’ve been wondering about, and I’d appreciate hearing others’ perspectives because I’m desperate to know why it happened more than once.
I consider myself friendly, respectful, and professional, and I’ve always tried to maintain positive relationships with my professors. However, last semester, I noticed that three professors stopped responding to my emails after I met with them in class for the first time. At the same time, they respond to my friends promptly and professionally.
I’m not trying to accuse anyone of anything—I’m simply trying to understand why this might happen. Has anyone else experienced something similar? Are there factors that might explain differences in email responses from faculty?
I’d really appreciate any honest insights or advice. Thanks!

I’m a freshman student (just finished my first semester) and I currently have a financial hold on my account, so I haven’t been able to register for Fall 2026 classes yet.
I expect to have the hold cleared by the beginning of August. Will I still be able to register for classes at that time, or should I be concerned about registration deadlines? Has anyone been in a similar situation before?

I don’t usually post on Reddit, but I’m feeling really confused and wanted some advice. One of my closest friends is openly gay, and we’ve been friends for years. Lately, though, I feel like his behavior toward me has changed. I’m straight and I have a fiancé, and at one point my friend admitted that he feels jealous of him.
