Behold! The first tomato of a Sunset summer...

I planted a sweet 100 cherry tomato back in April, knowing I might not get fruit until our "true" summer in Sept/Oct. This morning, I found a single deep red wonder just waiting for me. Second pic, single cherry tomato amuse-bouche, the "Parkside Special": EVOO, balsamic syrup, basil from my garden, black pepper, aged gouda curls, and a tiny tomato with a skin as tough as wind worn leather. Penny for scale, as I have no bananas. What's growing in your garden?

Bastille Day/le 14 juillet

I know San Francisco isn't exactly a hotbed of French culture, but is there anything happening on July 14th to celebrate the French national holiday? I see that there's an event on the Embarcadero Saturday July 18th, but I am specifically looking for activities or celebrations on the 14th. My niece will be visiting, and her grandmother is from Nancy, FR. Said niece lives in a small town in Utah where the closest anything French (bookstore, restaurant, patisserie) is 2.5 hours away. I am wondering if there may be some celebrations in that part of Bush Street where Notre Dame de Victoires is located, and also Alliance Française, and a few French restaurants. Ideas? Merci!

Edit: niece is early 30's so places 21+ are fine.

Heading to Stern Grove for Bomba Estéreo? Celebrating the Summer Solstice?

Hello lovelies! I went to a summer solstice dinner party last night and made these gorgeous fresh flower circlets for the gathering. I loved making them and wearing them, and now it's time for someone else to enjoy them. If you feel like celebrating the solstice today at Stern Grove whilst swanning about with flowers on your head, reach out. I am just a few blocks from Pine Lake Park.

These are NOT sized for children and will be too large and too heavy for your little. In general they are on the large size of adult headwear, as my partner and I have big noggins.

I'll be available from about 1:30Pm to 3:30PM

U.S. Air Force officer service cap

My father on his wedding day wearing the white version of the 1950's United States Air Force officer service cap. I had that hat at one time, but don't know what became of it.

Wow! r/Amsterdam is amazing!

I had an issue earlier this week as I was preparing for an event in Amsterdam. I reach out to this sub via the Q&A thread and I got such helpful, creative suggestions. One of those worked perfectly, and quite honestly, saved the day. Thank you, r/Amsterdam! Please reach out if you ever need help in r/sanfrancisco 🌟

Artists, art students, conference presenters, I need your help!

Hi Amsterdam!

I’m helping organize an international synesthesia symposium later this week, and I’m trying to solve a very unglamorous problem: easels 😅

We need:

  • about 5 standing easels for displaying artwork/posters
  • about 3 small tabletop easels

Unfortunately many art supply stores seem to need several days for delivery, and we’re arriving on a tight timeline. I need them on site by Weds May 27th at 8AM.

Does anyone know:

  • stores in Amsterdam where I can buy easels in person
  • conference/event rental companies that rent display easels
  • IKEA-style hacks or alternative display solutions people use locally
  • or even a local assistant / courier / TaskRabbit-style person who could help pick them up and transport them to Orgelpark?

Thanks so much — and if anyone here is curious about synesthesia, the symposium is open to the public for some events as well. Bonus points if the solution is affordable and doesn’t require assembling 40 tiny screws at midnight. https://iasasevents.com/community-registration/

Hardware Coffee on West Portal Ave soft opening

Hardware Coffee is open! Over the last few months, I've been watching the renovation of what was Pappenhausen Hardware on West Portal Avenue as it transformed into a coffee shop & café & flower shop. I went in this morning for coffee (excellent!) and said hello to the owner Sam (great guy!), then took a look at the bouquets in the little florist shop at the back. They have food beyond the standard bagels/pastries/sandos plus beer and wine. Cool Hardware Coffee merch too!

I love having more options on the west side, and I think it's kind of awesome that the owners are giving a nod to Pappenhausen Hardware with the name of their business. I still love Ballast Coffee, my other favorite option on West Portal Ave, but glad to see Hardware open for business.
