Sending this to my Gifted Education teacher (he helps with this type of stuff too):

Is this good?

In person letter:

[The Date]

Dear ccxxxxxx,

I hope you are having a wonderful week. I am writing to share an update on my academic goals for this school year and my track into high school.

After discussing it thoroughly with my parents, our ultimate goal is for me to enroll in AP Calculus BC as a 9th grader next year. To make this happen while legally meeting all school prerequisites, my plan is to:

  1. Self-study AP Precalculus, AP Microeconomics, AP Macroeconomics, and AP Psychology independently during this 8th-grade school year (allocating 1 hour of focused study per day).

  2. Enroll in an approved Algebra 2 Honors course this upcoming summer to officially secure the high school transcript credit.

  3. Walk straight into AP Calculus BC in the fall of 9th grade.

To maintain a healthy academic and social balance, my parents and I have capped my independent AP study at a strict one hour per day. This ensures I can remain fully committed to my school day, participate in track, and stay active in our school’s robotics club without risking academic burnout.

Because I am currently in Kumon Level M doing advanced trigonometry and analytic geometry, I already have the mathematical foundation for this track. Self-studying AP Precalculus this year will simply ensure I learn the official College Board testing formats, calculator regressions, and language requirements so there are no knowledge gaps.

For your reference, I have brought my physical Kumon Level M materials and the Columbia Public Schools Course Catalog guide with me today to demonstrate my current progress and show that the district explicitly approves 9th graders for AP Calculus BC!

My middle school counselor (xxxxxxxxx) and my future high school counselor (xxxxxxxx) originally hesitated about 9th-grade Calculus BC because the prerequisites weren't on my transcript yet. We believe this new summer-accelerated timeline completely solves that administrative problem.

Since you know my learning pace, my parents and I would greatly appreciate your advice and advocacy. Could we schedule a few minutes during our next meeting to discuss how to get these four AP exams ordered before the November deadline, and how to best present this official track to the high school?

Thank you so much for your continuous support and guidance!

Best regards,

[My Signature Here]

Self Studying AP Music Theory

I will be self studying this class in 9th… and I can tell you that I know how to play the piano (since the age of 5), and know how to play trombone trumpet tuba euphonium baritone and French horn. I played the violin clarinet recorder and ukulele. Learning the guitar. Am I cooked or idk? Ask me questions and I will answer!

How I got my district to order 8 un-offered AP Exams for me as an 8th grader ($0 out-of-pocket!)

Hey r/APStudents, u/chamikuo here with a massive update on my 4-year AP tracking journey!

My future high school doesn't offer physical classes for Micro, Macro, Spanish Lit, Euro, AP Chinese, AP Music Theory, AP African American Studies, or the new Career Kickstart tracks (AP Business, AP Networking & AP Cybersecurity). Usually, schools give a fast "No" to ordering exams they don't teach because of proctoring and tech headaches. (It’s 10 not 8)

To beat the system, I drafted a hyper-professional logistics pitch directly to the Director of Counseling. Instead of asking for a favor, I gave them solutions:

The Room Share: Since Micro, Macro, and Euro are digital on the Bluebook app, I offered to sit quietly in the back of any existing digital testing room to save them a proctor.

The Course Audit Bypass: I pointed out that College Board explicitly allows "Exam-Only" sections for the new career tracks without a teacher syllabus audit.

The Fee Waiver Loophole: Since I qualify for the low-income program, the College Board drops the fee to $37, and my district absorbs the rest, making my final out-of-pocket balance exactly $0.

The result? The high school director officially gave me a blanket written approval for any AP exam I want to take.

Because I’m still an 8th grader, she looped in my middle school EEE (gifted) teacher to act as my manager. Get this: my AP self-studies are officially becoming my graded school projects this year.

Every page of notes I take directly protects my report card grade. My teacher is even working with the IT department this week to bypass the school firewall so I can watch Mr. Sinn and ReviewEcon videos at my desk.

I’m starting with AP Psychology, AP Micro, and AP Macro this coming May 2027.

My advice to anyone trying to self-study un-offered exams: Don't ask your counselor "if" you can do it. Send them an email showing that you've already solved their tech, room, and financial problems for them.

Wish me luck on the grind! If you have any questions, comment down below!

Self studying AP Econs alongside AP Psych; are they hard?

Hi! I am a rising 8th grader self studying both ap econs and ap psych. I already started psych. Will start micro too next week. Once I finish micro, then will do macro. Are the Econs hard? I am not using Jacob Clifford, but instead, ReviewEcon. Can you give me tips on if the Econs (micro and macro) are hard? Plz, thank you Reddit.

psat info from last post

So… am a rising 8th grader and did this: took same practice test 3 three times in a row (1270, then 1330, then 1440). And I know you might say you just memorized and stuff but I didn’t really, and instead as I went through I understood it more and grasped the knowledge. Also, I will alternate between practice tests starting in the psat 10. Then will also take psat/nmsqt and sat 10th grade and stuff. This relates to my previous post. Please don’t say bad stuff.

Can I take the SAT in 10th?

In 10th, I would be in AP Calculus BC for math, and World Literature Honors for English.

Is there anything wrong with this? What are some advantages and disadvantages?

Also, should I take the PSAT in 10th grade too? Or should I take the PSAT for ninth grade? Or both? Help me out, Reddit.

I know this is the r/APstudents subreddit, but I really need genuine help, advice, and/or feedback!

Shoutout to my school district for covering the rest of our AP exam fees. $0 out of pocket is beautiful 😭🙏

I was fully stressing about how I was going to afford my exams this year since the base fee is up to $99 now.

I just found this breakdown for Hickman High School (Columbia Public Schools) and realized they completely wipe out the remaining balance if you qualify for the low-income discount.

As long as we register on time and show up on test day, it costs literally nothing. I'm so relieved. Check with your counselors, guys—your districts might have secret local funding pools like this too!

(P.S. If anyone is saying the image is AI, It's a screenshot from an email/portal, not an AI prompt. I'm just showing what my counselor sent me, go look up Hickman's fee waiver policy if you don't believe it.)

Is this good or too much?

I am a rising 8th grader self studying AP Hug and psych.

These are my hug notes: the images

I thought maybe the first 5 pages format that I used is a little too long, so I think from now on, I am going to use the format in page 6 and 7.

Self-studying AP Human Geography + AP Psych in 8th grade. Need advice/tips!

Hey everyone,

I am planning to self-study AP Human Geography and AP Psychology this upcoming school year as an 8th grader. I just emailed my future high school counselor to let him know my plan and to ask about coordinating with my middle school EEE teacher!

I want to keep my workload highly efficient so I don't burn out. My plan is a strict 3-hour weekly time budget (1.5 hours per subject) starting in August. I am skipping heavy textbooks and plan to rely entirely on Heimler’s History, Mr. Sinn on YouTube, and digital flashcards.

For anyone who has self-studied these two specific exams, do you have any tips or advice on how to pull this off?

Thanks!

Do I need braces?

This is my teeth. Don’t mind the yellow dots/spots (THERE JUST “REALLY BAD PLAQUE” AND NOT CAVITIES). And the white thing around a few of my teeth, I circled it in the first image…, is also plaque (and that one black spot in my top teeth is Oreo crumb… lol) :(

But the main question is if I need braces. My doctor said I might… but I don’t know. Should I? Please help me out Reddit.

Thank you in advance,

Future High-School doesn’t have AP Capstone

I really love capstone and I wanted to take both of the APs in highschool, until I figured out we don’t have them.

Is there any way I can convince them to add it to our highschool (had it by removed it in 2024/2025)

I (13M) am stuck in an intense anger loop with my "spoiled" sister and strict parents. Need advice.

I really need some advice because I feel completely stuck and exhausted. I am 13 years old and live in a strict immigrant household.

Every single day, my sister triggers me. She is treated like she is spoiled and can do absolutely no wrong. Whenever anything happens, my parents immediately blame me without ever knowing the whole story or listening to my side.

Because of the constant unfairness, my anger has become a major problem. I have a massive physical and mental surge of fury every day. I am trying so hard not to get in trouble or blow up out loud, so most of it stays locked inside my head. My brain gets stuck in constant loops where I am cussing her out, wishing I could call her names, or secretly flipping her off where my parents can’t see.

I know I have mild anger issues and I desperately want to see a private therapist outside of school to learn how to fix this habit. The problem is, my parents don't understand mental health and would get furious or heat up if I asked. I'm actually terrified they might physically hit me if they find out I am asking for therapy.

How can I get an adult (like a doctor) to tell my parents I need therapy without my parents finding out it came from me? Has anyone else in a strict household dealt with this?
