Throw recs at me, tell me about your current read, info dump about your favorites

Edit: if I don't get back to everyone's comments thank you so much. Im so excited to get into some of your recs!!

I for a time was unable to read due to some medical stuff. Im getting an ereader and after some testing reading seems to go great on it. I'm so so so excited.

I'd love to hear everyone's recommendations or just yap at me about your favorite books. We all know that itch when we're reading something good and we HAVE to tell someone. Hit me w it.

I enjoy kingfisher, A LOT. I enjoyed Scwabbs darker books. Tender is the flesh, the deep, dead silence (the sci-fi horror I may have gotten the name wrong), the haar, head full of ghost, as I'm typing I'm forgetting the books I like. I enjoy cosmic horror quite a bit. Scifi horror is the other sweet spot for me.

Outside of horror, I enjoy fantasy. Im reading nettle and bone rn.

Screen/light sensitivity, thinking about ereaders and tablets

I copy and pasted this from my post on the r/ereader subreddit when I remembered eink tablets were a thing.

Hi! I apologize if this has been discussed before. Its very hard for me to go through subreddits past post when I have a headache. Which is kind of why I'm here. I have extreme light sensitivity, the glare on the page from the over head light hurts my eyes. It's okay if it's outside in the shade or the little amber book light (sometimes).

Bc of this light sensitivity I cannot do anything that involves of a normal screen. Tv, computer, games, you name it. My phone has a ton of settings on it so I can use it.

My question for the other sub was ereader recommendations as I miss reading a lot and we're expecting our first tiny human this year.

Same question here but more so about tablets. If I can read also on it that's a plus. I've always written as a hobby and paper is not an option. I also for work have to write session notes. Idk how well e ink tablets can run a browser so doing work on it may not be an option.

I'm curious if anyone's had similar experiences and what they opted for. It's a unique feeling to be unable to do things that make you happy bc they suddenly make you sick or cause pain.

Screen/light sensitivity, is there an ereader for me?

My question is has anyone in this sub had similar sensitivity and had luck with e readers? I miss reading, I miss falling into a book. We're also expecting our first child this year and I've seen so many moms mention their kindle being a life saver during breastfeeding.

I see a lot of older kindle paper whites on marketplace and I have considered grabbing one. If anyone has a recommendation or similar experience I'd love to hear it. Thank you<3

Foster/rescues central AL area

Hi! A coworker of mine has taken in two kittens, they were born in a shop or barn near her and she had been checking on them daily when she noticed their mom wasn't returning. She's never fostered before so a few of us explained feeding, going potty and stuff like that. I'm sorry I don't know a ton of details

She's looking for a rescue or a foster for them since she works full time. There have been some suggestions but I wanted to check here as well for her. If anyone knows of any rescues in the area or how to help her find a foster please share!

Thank you

Pain specialist/nerve block (pregnant)

I'm finally seeing the pain specialist tomorrow! I'm 19 weeks along. I do Botox, I take propanalol and amtripyline (don't worry the MFM already made me feel like a drug seeking bad mom). Before pregnancy I took emgality. The combo of all of them together were doing very well. I had my last emgality in March and 2nd week of April it had fully worn off. I had my last Botox at the end of April. It doesn't feel like it worked as well as the one at the beginning of the year. Sorry this is a lot of detail I just wanna make sure my bases are covered.

We're looking at doing a nerve block, I'm all for it. My migraines rely heavily on prevention bc my attacks are long and shitty, they take a very heavy toll.

Those of you who have had kids, are currently pregnant or even just have been to a pain clinic, what can I expect? How do I need to prepare for that first appointment? I have no idea what I'm getting into tomorrow and I'm so worried about blanking at my appointment. Do I need to write out every trigger (food/muscles/the works)? I considered printing a diagram and drawing where it hurts lol.

Tbh after the MFM earlier this week, who insinuated that I shouldn't have to take or that I don't need any preventatives or even nausea meds bc I'm pregnant. She kind of implied that my chronic migraines would simply stop hurting. (I cleared my meds with neuro and midwife)

Sorry I've rambled

Ear plug things like weather X brand

I got a pair of weather x on a whim after hearing about them as I'm very sensitive to pressure changes and the state I live in loves inconsistent weather.

So far I like them for the most part but I do have a few grievances. So I was wondering if anyone else has recommendations for similar products.

(I can't use loops or flares, they both overstimulate me)

Chopped Philly style thing

My camera sucks :( so did my plating lol. I've been craving slutty vegans philly style fries, I did not have ingredients for a slut sauce copy cat. So this is just potatoes (in the bottom), gardein grounds cooked w jalapenos and onions and soy sauce simmered for a hot minute, and cheese sauce

My blender broke while making the cheese so like way to end a long run, rip my instant pot blender circa 2020, you were the goat.

Cheese sauce is half a block of tofu, literally like five cashews and a lil potato boiled, shreds, a lil apple cider vinegar, oat milk and nooch

(Yes I accidentally posted the text and then had to repost)

Tell me about less than ideal circumstances that worked out, weren't as bad as they seemed, etc

Like living in a one bedroom apt with a newborn, chronic illness, being off of work, living a drive away from your village, you name it!

Most parents Ive met had one or two things that weren't exactly what they expected when baby came or was on the way, I wanna hear the stories w happy endings and positive outcomes

Throw your wisdom at me if you'd like

I'm pregnant w our first baby. I have worked in childcare for years and I have nephews. But I work w mostly toddlers, the youngest being Abt 18ish months. I was involved in my nephews early life but like I just held him or entertained while mom did xyz thing. I've only been around newborns in small doses, holding them, hanging out while they nap. My husband has 4 sisters and friends w kids, he's seen newborn stages more than I have.

I do pretty heavy research, I have books, I take note on advice from other parents, but I still feel I know nothing at all of newborns.

What general advice, tips, tricks, things I should read or research on, what would you have told yourself during pregnancy that you know now?

Breast feeding consultant is a popular rec, I believe the midwife may have mentioned having recommendations so I'll definitely speak to her about it!

First time mom, adjusting to be more granola

We try to eat and live pretty clean. My best friend is crunchy in the best way and taught me a lot when I lived with her.

Obviously we're human and I'm chronically ill so I'm missing a lot of points. I've got a mental list of changes that I've put off for no other reason than fully forgetting them when I got my own place. We use a lot of free and clear products, eat mostly whole foods aside from keeping low effort safe foods on hand. My husband is a big fan of poptarts and breakfast essentials, we compromised on that bc he struggles with food in the morning.

A long ramble just to request that everyone throw their swaps and recs and ideas at me. I've been researching hard on car seats and a stroller. I've gotta pick out bath and other care products. I'm preparing to sort through and cull hand me downs and our wardrobe (at least from fast fashion)

What are things that get forgotten? What are things that saved your life? What are your non negotiables and what are your it's okay occasionally things? Ceramic pans or full stainless steel?

You're welcome to drop links, what to research or even info dump if you have the energy. Thank you <3
